Rep. Lewis reaches $1 million in legal fees.

Rep. Jerry Lewis (R-CA) has been under federal investigation “for his ties to defense contractor and convicted criminal Brent Wilkes and lobbyist buddy Bill Lowery” since the spring of 2006. Beginning in June 2006, Lewis has been paying heavy sums in legal fees to deal with the probe. TPMmuckraker reported yesterday that a $62,000 payment to the law firm Gibson, Dunn, and Crutcher on Dec. 12 last year put him over the $1 million mark.

It’s good you’re acknowledging how this administration has politicized the Justice Department, goon. Still, this usually shows up in their treatment of Democrats.

No surprise to see you trying to minimize any bad behavior on the part of a Republican. You probably still have a signed photo of Duke Cunningham on the wall.

Oh, I’m sorry, I thought the topic was the concept of “innocent until proven guilty” as you’ve mentioned it in every post.

I thought it might be helpful to remind you that Republicans only bring up that line when Republicans are in trouble, not for example when people who don’t look or speak like you have been rendered from street corners around the world, tortured and held for the rest of their lives without the right to due process.

Yes, that’s why he’s spent a cool million dollars, to stall and slow the inevitable. Failed? Harldy. He’s going to prison, deservedly. As many, many repukes are, far more than the piddly Clinton years. TYou have Whitewater, which Clinton was completely absolved of; we have treason in the Plame case, which George Bush had to cover up and bribe Libby with a pardon for.

But keep on injecting that koolaid, while your party destroys your country, gg.

Talk about antiAmerican, and you have to include Republicans along with Bin Laden and the Saudis.

GiGi agrees that one is innocent until proven guilty. Problem is, he only thinks that if you are a Republiscum. He has posted several posts here about William Jefferson, all negative. Nothing about how he is “innocent until proven guilty”.

He also misses the point that Lewis should have been in a court of law by now proving his “innocence”. But, because the Bush DOJ is dragging it’s feet on bringing the case to the courts, Lewis is not getting the opportunity to prove his “innocence”.

  63. bilbobaggins says:

goon_golly lists the number of convicitons in the Clinton Administration. Perhaps he would like to see the list for the Reagan administration, many of whom were pardoned by Reagan:

“By the end of his term, 138 Reagan administration officials had been convicted, had been indicted, or had been the subject of official investigations for official misconduct and/or criminal violations. In terms of number of officials involved, the record of his administration was the worst ever.”

    1. Lyn Nofziger–White House Press Secretary – Convicted on charges of illegal lobbying of White House in Wedtech scandal. The lobbying would not have been illegal had he not been White House Press Secretary.

    2. Michael Deaver, Reagan’s Chief of Staff, received three years’ probation and was fined one hundred thousand dollars after being convicted for lying to a congressional subcommittee and a federal grand jury about his lobbying activities after leaving the White House. Same as with Lyn Nofziger.

    3. James Watt, Reagan’s Secretary of the Interior was indicted on 41 felony counts for using connections at the Department of Housing and Urban Development to help his private clients seek federal funds for housing projects in Maryland, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Watt conceded that he had received $500,000 from clients who were granted very favorable housing contracts after he had intervened on their behalf. Watt was eventually sentenced to five years in prison and 500 hours of community service.

    4. John Poindexter, Reagan’s national security advisor, guilty of five criminal counts involving conspiracy to mislead Congress, obstructing congressional inquiries, lying to lawmakers, used “high national security” to mask deceit and wrong-doing…

    5. Richard Secord pleaded guilty to a felony charge of lying to Congress over Iran-Contra. Appointed by William Casey to assist Oliver North.

    6. Elliott Abrams was appointed by President Reagan in 1985 to head the State Department’s Latin American Bureau. He was closely linked with ex-White House aide Lt. Col. Oliver North’s covert movement to aid the Contras. Working for North, Abrams coordinated inter-agency support for the contras and helped solicit illegal funding from foreign powers as well as domestic contributors. Abrams agreed to cooperate with Iran-Contra investigators and pled guilty to two charges reduced to misdemeanors. He was sentenced in 1991 to two years probation and 100 hours of community service but was pardoned by President George Bush…

    7. Robert C. McFarlane, Reagan’s National Security Advisor, pled guilty to four misdemeanors and was sentenced to two years probation and 200 hours of community service. He was also fined $20,000. He received a blanket pardon from President George Bush…

    8. Alan D. Fiers was the Chief of the Central Intelligence Agency’s Central American Task Force. Fiers pled guilty in 1991 to two counts of withholding information from congress about Oliver North’s activities and the diversion of Iran arms sale money to aid the Contras. He was sentenced to one year of probation and 100 hours of community service. Alan Fiers received a blanket pardon for his crimes from President Bush…

    9. Thomas G. Clines: convicted of four counts of tax-related offenses for failing to report income from the operations;

    10. Carl R. Channel – Office of Public Diplomacy , partner in International Business- first person convicted in the Iran/Contra scandal, pleaded guilty of one count of defrauding the United States

    11. Richard R. Miller – Partner with Oliver North in IBC, a Office of Public Diplomacy front group, convicted of conspiracy to defraud the United States.

    12. Frank Gomez

    13.. Donald Fortier

    14. Clair George was Chief of the CIA’s Division of Covert Operations under President Reagan. George was convicted of lying to two congressional committees in 1986. George faced a maximum five year federal prison sentence and a $20,000 fine for each of the two convictions. Jurors cleared George of five other charges including two counts of lying to a federal grand jury. Clair George received a blanket pardon for his crimes from President George Bush…

    15. Rita Lavelle was indicted, tried and convicted of lying to Congress and served three months of a six-month prison sentence.

    16. Philip Winn – Assistant HUD Secretary. Pleaded guilty to one count of scheming to give illegal gratuities.

    17. Thomas Demery – Assistand HUD Secretary – pleaded guilty to steering HUD subsidies to politically connected donors.

    18. Deborah Gore Dean – executive assistant to Samuel Pierce – indicted on thirteen counts, three counts of conspiracy, one count of accepting an illegal gratuity, four counts of perjury, and five counts of concealing articles. She was convicted on twelve accounts. She appealed and prevailed on several accounts but the convictions for conspiracy remained.

    19. Catalina Villaponda – Former US Treasurer

    20. Joseph A. Strauss – Accepting kickbacks from developers

    21. Oliver North – He was indicted on sixteen felony counts and on May 4, 1989, he was convicted of three: accepting an illegal gratuity, aiding and abetting in the obstruction of a congressional inquiry, and destruction of documents (by his secretary, Fawn Hall, on his instructions). He was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Gerhard A. Gesell on July 5, 1989, to a three-year suspended prison term, two years probation, $150,000 in fines, and 1,200 hours community service. His conviction was later overturned.

bilbo – there was no insult in my message to fred…
    only friendly advice…

    but here’s an insult:
there are times he sounds like a 14yr.old… see #81…

    ’s all i’m sayin’ about that…

you all know i’ve been b!tch!n about feeding the troolls for years…
lot of good it’s done… well, maybe some…
my motives are mostly selfish, as i’m embarrassed at times
to be a “regular” at TP when that sh!t happens…
    that’s all…

You have been insulting since the first time you responded to one of my posts…..saying my opinion sounded “uppity” for a newbe…….

the term as racial overtones along with a condescending ring.

FYI For anyone who just drifts into TP and watches the interchange between you “regulars” and the trolls……..I’m pretty sure it looks like a bunch of 14 year olds…it did to me when I first arrived.

I think so too….I did not start this just to start a fight.

He’s a good one to talk about feeding trolls.

I have been on a learning curve here for a few days but I understand much now….that being said, it in no way elevates the status of a troll or disrupter above wormdirt.

That’s your opinion lefty…..I have mine…..you will not deny by intimidation so get used to it.

    Comment by Fred — January 26, 2008 @ 11:59 am

Hey, you paranoid litle freak, you’re sounding like a republican concern troll. Nobody’s trying to intimidate you, but your endless whining and crybaby tactics are every bit as distracting and wasteful as any troll’s. You’d be better off with your own blog.

And so you’ve decided to act like a 12-year-old?

I think so too….I did not start this just to start a fight.

    yes, you did.

That would be patently impossible……the trolls win daily here…sorry that is my opinion spoken at the risk of being called uppity……Your accusation doesn’t hold water.

Gummitch had already declared this thread dead as justification for interacting with the trolls……read through it.

I haven’t called you guys any names but the winey one is starting to sound like you.

  78. alphainfinityomega says:

    wormdirt.

Look who’s wormdirt now; but keep your chin up, you’ll always have Shayne.
It’s never too late to change your handle, perhaps the ‘regulars’ won’t recognize you.

    Fred @ 93

Fred, your giving yourself away now….lets try to stay in character as an old time Democrat who needs to distract the posters with the need for proper posting etiquette.

As far as that corrupt Jerry Lewis is concerned, it cost his defending law firm a million bucks to hire the USDA who was the lead prosecutor on this case. That should tell you everything about how corrupt and significant this case is.

Yeah, that’s what I’m trying to do \sarcasm……..That’s twice today I have been called a troll. I’ve said what I think and this will end it as far as trying to have a discussion about it.

That’s pretty funny coming from someone who has come here pretending to be a liberal in order to pit us against each other in an attempt to disrupt this site. Nice try but no cigar.

  85. PatrioticLiberalChristian says:

Fred, it’s not your message that’s a problem. It’s your tone. I have suggested at times that we ignore trolls. I have not been targeted by regulars because I only suggest, not nag. Other times, I’m thick in the mix in whacking them and others have suggested that I stop. Sometimes, I do, and sometimes I don’t. There’s no right answer to this, since this blog is not a life or death matter. Voice your opinion, have some fun, practice arguing with the wingnuts – that’s what this site is about.

  86. bilbobaggins says:

katy – usually I think your posts are spot on, but this time I think you have missed the mark. Here’s what you wrote:

    and fred – just don’t be such a whiner…
you get your feelings hurt? no one has to know…
    just carry on…
    Comment by katy

That post sounded pretty insulting to me and it wasn’t even aimed at me.

As I said before, why are we turning on each other? It looks like the trolls and alphainfinityomega have succeeded in that goal.

I believe that is what Fred was trying to say all along. He may not have said it in terms that some people here think he should have, but that was his point and he was dead on. I think he hit a lot of nerves and that is what caused the regulars here to start attacking him. It’s sad.

  89. vordabois says:

After comment #5, why didn’t someone state the obvious?

The Clintons were never found to be guilty of a damned thing.

  90. katy says:

    well, excuse me… really… i truly meant no harm… sorry…

all who found that comment insulting? say AY…
    seriously, i’m curious…

    perhaps i could’ve elaborated:
“and fred – some words of friendly advice: just try not to sound like such a whiner, a nagger…
if you should get your feelings hurt by someone’s comment to you?
no one has to know… you don’t have to respond…
    just carry on…”

so, i’ve decided to warm up by baking cookies… peanut butter…
found THE best recipe – JOY OF COOKING…

    later…

    oh, and thanks, bilbobaggins…

  91. RUCerious says:

  93. bilbobaggins says:

I have a suggestion for all the regulars here. Try talking about the trolls not to them. That’s what I am doing. It works well. I can address their idiotic posts without actually engaging them in dialog. It hurts a lot less than beating my head against a brick wall which is what trying to have a conversation with a troll feels like.

Why don’t you offer a cookie to Fred?

I’m not sure if you were truly thanking me, but if you were, then “You’re welcome”.

  96. katy says:

    ok! it’s cookies!

    come and get ‘em!

  97. dbadass says:

I am sure they are superb but I don’t really like peanut butter. Kudos on taking the time to make actual food.

  98. Lefty Patriot says:

I’m making Martha Stewart Meditarranean Chili. Smells pretty good so far.

  99. katy says:

well, “superb” is stretching it, dbadass… we’re talking pb cookies here…
but they turned out great… i wanted to see if using my WHITE WHOLE WHEAT flour would work in them… i’ve used it in my nutty, whole oats and organic shredded wheat crumbs cookies, but those are so full of stuff you can’t tell… these pb cookies take it well also…

since i found WHITE whole wheat flour i’ve been using it more…
    i heartily recommend it…

mmmmm… i will have to find that martha recipe, lefty… let us know how it tastes… my experience finds that those kind of dishes are even better the next day…

    Rhino skin — good.

  101. alphainfinityomega says:

Maybe bilbobaggins can whine and cry because he donated a little bit of money to TP. and now wants it back.
But that’s not what I object to; what I despise is some keyboard commando like dildobaggins, who probably sits behind his computer 24/7, with an ass the size of a watermelon – telling me what my ideology is.
And I could care less whether you talk to me directly or indirectly or not at all.
But I say this directly to you: kiss my thin ass.
Now, maybe TP. will refund that, Prick.
