mary says:
‘”We’ll send up the fiscal year ‘09 budget (next Monday),” Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman said. “It will have a request for an emergency allowance to support activities related to the global war on terror into 2009 … in the amount of 70 billion.”
The funding would be in addition to the administration’s request for the regular Pentagon budget which is to be presented next week.’
How are they getting away with calling the biggest pork-barrel project of all an “emergency allowance”?!
Why isn’t this request part of the “regular Pentagon budget”?
And he is gonna get it cause the machine needs to keep going.
Keep the propaganda on.
Keep the dollars flowing from the bottom to the top.
Keep talking about how brave and heroic are the men and women in uniform instead of giving those same persons the same options in life that wealthy people have.
Anyone who has ever done budgeting would be able to calculate how much they intend to channel to Halliburton and all of the other war-profiteers by now. They have five years of spending history to work with!
Congress should say “Nope, sorry. Put it into your “regular” budget request.”
# 4. The supremacy of the military/avid militarism. Ruling elites always identified closely with the military and the industrial infrastructure that supported it. A disproportionate share of national resources was allocated to the military, even when domestic needs were acute. The military was seen as an expression of nationalism, and was used whenever possible to assert national goals, intimidate other nations, and increase the power and prestige of the ruling elite.
I doubt that GDumbya will mention this in his State of the Union Drivel tonight. After all, if he did, he would have to actually bring up his dirty little war in Iraq and he seems to be avoiding the topic lately. You know . . . needs to dress up his legacy and all.
Also off the list for tonight — Katrina, New Orleans, privatizing Social Security. The only good news is that it will likely be a short bumble.
The Democrats should give him every penny he asks for for the troops, but not one penny more for the Contractors. That is how they can end this occupation. Refuse to continue funding Bush’s private army. The Republiscums won’t be able to scream that they are not supporting the troops and Bush won’t be able to keep the troops in Iraq without the contractors.
Bush has increased the deficit by 1.6 billion. GOPigs are the party of spend and borrow to fund war and corporate welfare. Innocent blood and tax breaks for the wealthy and lies. That’s all they have given us and that is the State of the Union. Traitors.
It’s for ongoing operations – for covering costs so that our soldiers aren’t left without ammo and supplies in the middle of desert, you know?

Francine seems to think all that money is going to the troops. He is wrong. 40% of every allocation goes to the Contractors. And a significant amount is now going to bribe
70 billion more for the failed war! There goes the so called ’stimulus plan’! Bush pretends to ‘create’ as he destroys. The so called stimulus is just make believe. This freak is out there to destroy America and its sovereignty!
GOPigs want to solve all their problems by throwing money, somebody else’s money on the problem. They are robbing the US treasury and indebting the working class for generations. The whole bunch are criminals and TRAITORS.
Can we please stop calling this wild expenditure of $ ‘The War on Terror’? First of all American case law restricts ‘war’ to exist between 2 countries/nations/ imperial powers, and second the enemy we’re so busy spending our future to fight, have been AWOL for the last 6.5 years.

January 28th, 2008 at 1:32 pmI would not give Bush $0.70 for his illegal, immoral, and unjustified war. However, I would donate a noose for his hanging.

say whatever lie you have to to get elected.
there are more troops there now than when the libs won the senate with all their promises to bring home the troops.

Not technically. I think he still has some room on his spending limit on that particular credit card.

Actually, only about 25% of it goes to the troops – the majority goes to contractors.

Because then it would show up in the federal defecit numbers – better to fund a war on emergency supplementals, you know. Less oversight.

If most of it actually went towards giving troops armor and supplies, rather than filling corporate coffers, I would be for it

January 28th, 2008 at 3:08 pmbilbobaggins –
But it’s the contractors that run EVERYTHING. No longer does the army cook its own food and do its own laundry on the cheap.
No no. It’s KBR et al. who do a load of laundry for $99 and cook meals for $99 a day per soldier.
This is the Iraq War.
