How will History judge the Presidency of George W. Bush?

  2. Sabyen91 says:

Honestly, after seeing who the rebuttal Dem was I rolled my eyes. The last thing we need is more centrist, can’t we all just get along crap. I am sure it will be analyzed to death but I was impressed. It was pointed, positive and a call for change.

  3. klevenstein says:

    truly inspiring

she seems to have quite a bit of that there charisma stuff

make a great running mate for Obama

  4. Sabyen91 says:

I guess this is the “official” drinking game. Darn, I would be ripped.

  5. Sabyen91 says:

klevenstein, we don’t want to take a Dem governor out of Kansas. It could be 100 years before those creationist loving freaks vote another one in.

  6. Sabyen91 says:

Now, Wes Clark is not busy…

  7. Sabyen91 says:

By the way, folks. Hillary is campaigning in Florida. I know, it sounds innocent. Except for the fact that Florida is not supposed to count this year because they broke Dem rules by moving their primary. And Hillary is trying to get Michigan and Florida delegates certified. Umm, FU, Hillary.

  8. had enough says:

rumor: Gov. Kathleen Sebelius may be Obama’s pick for VP.
Heard this on KGO.com, the Gene Burns show from a caller. Gene Burns was not surprised at this…. could it be?

  9. had enough says:

If Hillary does get the nomination -be ware…there is an an ugly sound bite of her I am sure the repugs will find and exploit. It was played on the Ed Shultz show today by Norm, Hillary yelling, screeching Help me win! Help me win! Help me win! Just horrible and annoying to extremes.

  10. alphainfinityomega says:

    justasking:

I couldn’t disagree with you more.
For one thing, Sebelius talked too long -*yawn*- and who is she anyway.

    Clinton / Clark ‘08

  11. Doc Rock says:

It will be great to have a woman replace Bush!

  12. termiteart says:

    What a weak speech

Kumbaya anyone? The whole speech was geared toward her endorsement of Obama this morning and, well now, does that serve “all American” ?

Not me buddy. Obama is all hat and no cattle just like Bush, but he gives a fine speech.

    HILLARY ‘08!!!

  13. Frosty Cupcake says:

I thought she wasn’t nearly as good as Webb last year. Where was the fire? The passion?

And since we’re picking our favorites:

    Edwards ‘08

  14. Fan of Man says:

    favorites this year?

    hmm….

    NOBODY 08!

  15. Cats r Flyfishn says:

Good speech by the Governor. She would make a great addition to a Democratic Presidential ticket. Obama for President and Sebelius for Vice President. I would love to see a woman as president. Hillary is not that woman. Hillary is divisive and Americans are getting tired of this.

  16. tarazan says:

Democrats chosing Gov. Kathleen Sebelius for rebuttal was not the right choice, for this occasion. Soft spoken woman, covering little of what is happening.
They need someone screaming, with a loud voice with regard to what is happening in this country.
Democrats needed someone like Jim Kramer of Mad Money of CNBC for such rebuttal.

  17. tiffany says:

Sebelius’ speech was much too weak for me. I wanted a Democrat to reiterate and remind the many stupid Americans of what the REAL state of the union is. “Join us” was a stupid notion especially with less than a year to go for this idiot in chief. When have the REpugs joined the Dems during this administration????? Instead, I wanted to hear her convince the public that the Republican party should not be elected next year and we need a blowout in the next election to undo the tremendous damage done to our nation. Witness Nancy and Harry’s futile attempts to play nice and Sebelius wants to continue down that path??? Jim Webb should have given the rebuttal because he reflects more the sentiments of most of us.

  18. Constitutionalist says:

Ah democrats……. how will you sell us out this year?

Maybe continue to fund the war? Or continue to let torture slip by unmolested?

Or maybe you’ll start using your power to be corrupt flunkies like the republicans you replaced?

  19. tarazan says:

Democrats need to be more aggressive in their responses. They are just sitting taking punches…They are scared of being accused of not being patriots..
Republicans made big issues for years about Whitewater against Clintons, although it happened long time before Clinton became a president. They appointed a special council.,and when Bush dropped his pants..they took him to impeach him.
Here Democrats and their Congress have been silent over more important issues than what Clinton did, by this administration.
Kerry ,during last presidential campaign, he did not repsond to all made allegations against him…he lost
If Demcorats keep this style and attitude..they will lose gain…

Democrats now being attacked as” do nothing Congress’,and this will go on unless they stop it and fight this B.S., or it will be over.
Democrats nominee will be shredded to pieces in the next few months by experts working in the GOP side. Whether it is Obama,Hillary..or Edwards (whom Republicans see a lesser success in taregeting him).

Yesterday it was a golden opportunity for Democrats to speak louder…but alas, Bush went on as the winner of the night…

  20. Proud American Liberal says:

I agree with several posters above: I thought Sebelius’ speech was weak and uninspiring. There was too much “can’t we all feel good together” and “make nice” in the opening. It was miqutoast. I got bored and watched something else. She’s an ineffective speaker.

  21. Tawdry says:

Who picks the rebuttal speaker? She was extremely dull.

  22. bbrown8370 says:

I agree. It was weak. She spoke with no emotion. I almost turned it off.

  23. alpuz3 says:

I did turn it off. It may have offended me more than the freakshow proceeding it. The whole thing felt surreal.

Does anyone have an idea of what the strategy was behind this move?

If they were trying to sell the message of ‘Milquetoast’ to the public, than it was a smashing success. That word popped into my head over and over during the ‘rebuttal’. I had to turn it off.

  24. natisman says:

Have we come to this, You can tell who is a Hilliary backer and Who is a an Obama backer by line of comments.

the Hilliary backer thinks she was surreal, and boring.

The Obama backer thinks she was to the point and had great things to say about her.

To this Edwards voter, is this all we have for the future Hilliary folks having no sense of humor and Obama folks talking about how the stars need to be for great speechifying.

Is this really how you want it?

  25. alpuz3 says:

I’m no Hillary backer, natisman – if that was directed at me.

I thought the whole thing was surreal. Right down to what appeared to be a ’starstruck’ Pelosi sit/standing behind the deciderer…

But, then again, I’m a bit more pissed off than your average American voter.

… at least that’s what I’ve been told.

  26. darladoon says:

i’m sorry, but that response was pretty sad.

i want someone to shred that speech to pieces!

  27. darladoon says:

sorry, ms. sibelius, but there isn’t anyone left in the “heartland”. everyone lives on the coasts now. or in cities.

  28. ThatsNotFunny says:

Between the weak speech, the tennis match-like monotonous voice, the sleep-inducing fire in the background, and the strangely hypnotic, gently swaying folds of her neck, I was in a coma after 2 minutes.

  29. LividLib says:

My version of his SOTU address:

Immediately following Bush’s statement – “Because a society is measured by how it treats the weak and vulnerable, we must strive to build a culture of life. ”

Cheney slumps over in his chair, a victim of a fatal heart attack.

    (APPLAUSE!)
    (APPLAUSE!)
    (STANDING OVATION)

    Much better!

  30. Frosty Cupcake says:

    “I almost turned it off.”

    Comment by bbrown8370 — January 29, 2008 @ 10:20 am

    I *did* turn it off.

    Awful speech.

  31. Proud American Liberal says:

“Have we come to this, You can tell who is a Hilliary backer and Who is a an Obama backer by line of comments.

the Hilliary backer thinks she was surreal, and boring.”

Sorry natisman, you’re dead wrong on this one. I thought she was a waste of space and I’m an Edwards backer as well. I want Democrats to make speeches that inspire. I want to see them breathe fire. What we got with Sebelius was a talking mannequin.

  32. tarazan says:

    #32…Proud American,

I agree with you, the opinions expressed here had nothing to do with supporting Obama or Clinton…It is just stating the fact.
I was not motivated by neither Obama nor Clinton expressing my own feeling about the Rebuttal speech. Democrats simply chose the wrong person.
May be they will learn from this.

    #24 Natisman is totally wrong.

  33. aquarius2 says:

If Gov Sebelius’s response is the Democrats idea of rebutting George W. then we are in big trouble. She talked as if she were on mind numbing drugs and the content of the speech “let’s hold hands”. This was George W’s last SOTU and the rebuttal should have reminded ALL Americans of what he has done to this country THEN it should have stated what the Democrats hope to do.

  34. Fred says:

34 What most of the old liberals here are looing for, not just in the rebuttal but in our progressive representatives is content that lifts your spirit. Not the kind of patiotic, love it or leave it attitude of the right but the kind of spiritual lift that transends the parties…..you don’t see it anymore and it is a shame.

It takes intelligent orators to pull that off and we have’t had a real one since the Kennedy’s. Raygun could talk but it was polarizing and partizan.

John Kennedy spoke of a rising tide that floats all boats. Eloquent depictions of American life that were within our grasp. Patriotic but not devicive……the famous “Ask Not what your country can do for you” speach.

    This is what we crave……..IMHO

  35. Fred says:

    guess that’s lifts all boats……

  36. Fred says:

ok, I didn’t quote him perfectly…it’s lift I think.. point is people stood up when JFK spoke. People cheered, laughed, had hope when JFK spoke. It was inpirational but not religious….patriotic but not nationist extremist.

  37. anime says:

Kathleen’s speech last night was beyond toothless. The Dems could have taken the opportunity to grill Bush and the GOP, it was a no brainer… Now vs. 7 years ago: corporate profits and CEO salaries way up – our wages flat, gasoline $3 per gallon – gasoline $1 gallon, the world hates us – the world loves us, etc, etc, etc. Instead it was (in sleepful monotones), “let’s be nice bipartisans, let’s encourage hope, and by gosh, let’s see some improvement.” What she was really saying was, “As Democrats in the majority we’ve totally capitulated, we’re all corporatists, and in the future what we’re going to offer the poor and middle class are mere crumbs.”
