SOTU: Bush Gets A Kiss

A Republican Congressman — who appeared to be Rep. Chris Shays (R-CT) — greeted Bush on his way up to the podium and planted a gentle kiss on the President’s cheek. Watch it:

Some people think Shays a little lite in the loafers and we had also had a little grab behind the neck on Barney Frank . Skull & Bones taught george to swing both ways .

  8. Vanthomas Says:

The Dem response is on now.Why do we always have soft voiced people making heartfelt pleas to a criminal who could give a shit? I'm sick and tired of feel good bullshit, and I'm sick of the leaders in my party looking like pansies.

  9. Quizmos Says:

According to Sen. Larry Craig, there is nothing wrong with a little kiss between (or for that matter, among) men. He should know because he is not gay and he never has been gay.

"Not that there's anything wrong with it" Jerry Sienfeld

Appropriate, ironic and perfect placement. On 24 on your Charter lineup is the SOTU and on channel 23 is Santana: Hymns for Peace. I will take Santana FTW.

  16. ccokz Says:

The absolute weakest point in Bushs speech were the pockets of despair in New Orleans. Its embarassing he had to mention it so long after the storm occured. The effort for reconstruction is too low. It didnt improve by Bush saying in the next sentence that he intends to place his soldiers all over the world. I guess they dont reconstruct New Orleans then.

Another weak point was the no child left behind act. Despite Bush insisted on improving skills thru no left behind, he didnt get into much of what he was investing into the program.

The start of the speech hinted at the reasons. Bush is mainly concerned about saving taxes. That means he doesnt like to collect taxes. Well, its surely important to oppose terrorists. But despite Al-Quaida, a state is also run by money. The stupid remark by Bush that people are free to send cheques to the IRS was more than superflous. He turns the US tax system into a circus and his successor will have some fun time to get to money.

Despite the spoongo show("mad the magazine") about taxes Bush didnt become too specific on how to create jobs. Furthermore his lame remarks on the housing market were totally insufficient. He didnt even try to connect the reconstruction effort in new Orleans to a new wave of entrepreneurship in this sector. His remarks are defatistic.

I didn't and couldn't watch. Did Dinkledorf warm up with a few half truths or did he lie immediately?

"Despite the spoongo show(”mad the magazine”) about taxes Bush didnt become too specific on how to create jobs."

I didn't watch it. The man makes me physically ill. Of course he didn't become too specific on how to create jobs. He has done a piss-poor job of it his whole time in office. Not one of his strong points.

  21. Sabyen91 Says:

Is Gin banging his illegal pool boy or his keyboard? We report, you decide.

  22. ShadKahn Says:

Seriously I really have no feelings about this footage one way or another. I personally think the most shocking thing that happened tonight was the speech. Will the Democrats respond to this horrible babble? I'm literally sick and tired of watching this man get away with the lies he tells the public.

Gin.....and your point is?..oh I'm sorry....don't let me stop you from banging away on your keyboard...........fool.

  29. williamf Says:

At least he isn't kissin' Bush's ass like our "majority" in congress! When in the world are Pelosi and Reid gonna get some guts and nail Bush and Cheney? They can complain about not having the votes but my complaint is the fact that there must be at least 20 high crimes and misdemeanors that the Speaker and Senate Majority Leader have overlooked. There is enough out there in the form of crimes to impeach ad nauseum. What's up with these people?

  30. SP Biloxi Says:

Shays, the new Joe Six Pack replacement. That is certainly the kiss of death.

  31. mudsharks buddy Says:

looks like to me that their coming out of the closet.......nawwwwww.......their republicans....they can't come out.probably just words of encouragement......from a lunatic.

  32. Sabyen91 Says:

Shays can't replace Holy Joe, he is already a Republican.

  33. joe cantwell Says:

the same sex love that gin has for "w" is nothing to be ashamed of!

  34. Sabyen91 Says:

Yeah, it is, joe cantwell. Anybody that has a crush on W, man or otherwise, is sick, sick, sick.

  35. 08ingchange Says:

He was just confused. he should have been more south. But it is true that the same sh*t comes out off both ends, the man is just one big a**hole

  36. Sabyen91 Says:

Ew, one evil president, one cup for Chris Shays.

  37. Dr. Matt Says:

    Shays, another wide stance reich-winger.

  38. Sabyen91 Says:

Dr. Matt, that isn't the first time that rumor has floated around.

  39. MrTimPA Says:

Funny - I missed the speech (forgot to DVR it for later laughs) - but I caught some snippits of it on news channels later. This video snip is funny. As a gay man, my first reaction was "ick" - odd how republicans can bash same sex relationships yet do a little kissy-poo on the side... :)

  40. Sabyen91 Says:

Mr. Tim, as a straight guy I have the exact same reaction!

  41. Max-1 Says:

    .

Was Shays extending greetings from Craig?

  42. alphainfinityomega Says:

It's Chris Shays (R CT), for goodness sake, what do you expect?

    A∞Ω

  43. Castelcomerkid Says:

Kinda like getting kissed by your sister! Ugh!

  44. Trojan John Says:

Everyone kisses here up to three times as a greeting. But that's here.

    So... eeewwww.

  45. raybo Says:

Chris Shays rules my congressional district. I was at a public hearing regarding the Patriot Act in January 2004 where Shays said "I trust George Bush". Despite what has been proven since about Bush (lying to get us in Iraq; obstructing the 911 commission; authorizing torture; detaining US citizens without charge; labeling dissenters as terrorist symoathyzers; courting corrupt dictators while labeling non-compliant dictators as terrorists; undermining a democratically elected government in Palestine; profiterring for corporate cronies in Iraq, Afghanistan & New Orleans; lining pockets of drug companies with prescription drug plan for Medicare; undermining environmental rules and opposing states that seek stronger controls; spying on US citizens;etc.). These acts, of course are some highlights. Chris Shays tries to portray himself as a centrist. But after all of this Chris Shays plants a big wet kiss on Bush (a lame duck no less). Centrist mys ass!!!!

  46. IgnoranceIsNotBliss Says:

    Yuck!

  47. Keith H. Says:

The biggest reason that POS is still standing before fox news and spitting Bullsh!t is because they work together behind the camera and lie to the public about what is going on.
There are not opposing parties, they are one in the same.

Their propaganda machine is finely tuned my friends.

They've had a very long time to work on it with plenty of money to spend in the process.

  48. 99Luf Balloons Says:

Further proof that banging on your keyboard like a chimpanzee has absolutely no effect in the real world.

    Comment by Gin

Ginny, are you finally coming around to realizing this? Poor, poor ginny. Time to hit the koolaid bottle. I knew there was a reason ginny posts were so fu(ked up.

You should get the bush keyboard. It has a whole different alphabet on it, and us in reality will be forced to study it in the future. That is how faux noise creates bush's reality.

  49. mudsharks buddy Says:

Because you being a charter member of the Chimpy Adoration Brigade , made up of the most stupid Americans ever crapped out , is somehow over-crowded ?

  53. redfish Says:

raybo, Chris Shays was one of the chief sponsors of the Shays-Meehan campaign finance reform act, which was the House version of McCain-Feingold. He's no less a centrist than McCain. Both lean right and support Bush's war position over the Democrat's war position more or less. You realize the country is politically polarized on this? Most people think the war in Iraq is a mess, but still differ in opinion on what should be done there. But I suppose to you any true centrist would have to recognize Bush is a lying war criminal.

  54. SnowCritter Says:

While watching I kept looking for the fruitloop that somehow managed to get elected here in the Minnesota Sixth - Michele Bachmann. But then I figured that, in order to prevent a repeat performance, they probably locked her in an office until Bush started blabbering.

  55. Brain From Planet Arous Says:

The Bush - Liar - Criminal - Murderer ship only seems to sail in left wing extremist waters.

There are people that still think Hitler did the right thing, Joe McCarthy was a great American, Nixon was a great president, and Reagan's bust should be on Mt. Rushmore. Unfortunately Bush will only be liked by Homophobes, oil companies, Defense companies, and Fundamentalists. There is a reason why 75% of the USA and 95% of the rest of the planet detest the Bush/Cheney cabal.

  56. leekinny Says:

Did anyone notice the way Pelosi was holding her program at the end of the speech was flipping the bird to someone. Was it just an accident? Was it aimed at the president? I would like to think so.

Many of us would like to flip Bush off. Many of us would prefer a more direct approach as the person, in Mississippi did to Cheney after Katrina.

But, that's all just nice to do what we would all prefer is a much more direct approach from Nancy called impeachment.

  57. spmosher Says:

Come on people! As a raging gay liberal progressive, I can't stand Bush probably as much as anyone. But turning some peck on the cheek between men into something other than what it was is silly, and has no bearing on anything of merit.

And parsing words, body language and photo ops are not doing anyone any good, other than keeping the populace's attention diverted from important matters.

Let's get back to the important topics at hand.

  58. Dean Rader Says:

In my post yesterday for The Weekly Rader, I write about Mr. Bush's State of the Union address as though it were a student paper. As an English professor and a texbook author, I thought it might be fun to look at his speech through the lens of typical student papers. The President is, after all, much like a senior in his final semester before graduation.

Find out what grade Mr. Bush receives here:

  59. shellyT Says:

What is it with these Republcians? If they aren't trading saliva where the nanocodes to their secret agenda reside, they can't communicate?

  60. babydoll Says:

Have you ever seen chimpanzees cleaning each other?
Shays got too close and saw a grub he found simply irresistible.

EXTREME anti-neocon tees n' gifts at Laugh City!

  61. EdgeOnIt Says:

I think it was ex-aid Rove, that hurt Bush's sensibilities the most, during the last term as Chief of Staff, by disempowering the Justice Department, and rendereing Bush's good intentions toothless!
