SOTU: Bush Is Forced To Withraw Troops From Iraq Because Of Weakened Military

Bush said: “When we met last year, our troop levels in Iraq were on the rise. Today, because of the progress just described, we are implementing a policy of ‘return on success,’ and the surge forces we sent to Iraq are beginning to come home.”

FACT — SURGE HAS WEAKENED THE MILITARY: Army Chief of Staff General George Casey warned that “the current demand for our forces exceeds the sustainable supply” and also that “the surge has sucked all the flexibility out of the system.” Yesterday, Gen. Petraeus “said the Pentagon wants to bring troops home quickly to reduce the strain on the armed services.” [WSJ, 1/17/08; CNN, 1/28/08]

FACT — THE LONGER WE STAY IN IRAQ, THE MORE OUR MILITARY IS BURDENED: “It’s going to take us three or four years and a substantial amount of resources to put ourselves back in balance. … The question is, when does the conflict end?,” said Army Chief of Staff George Casey in October. [General Casey, 10/9/07]

I wish this was Bush’s STFU speech.

What a freekin’ little moron he is.

  2. Briseadh na Faire says:

yeah! they finally came up with a 3-word slogan that allows them to bring our young women and men home…no, it’s not “cut and run” only Democrats do that. For Bush, it’s “return on success!”

(Just in time for Sadr to end his unilateral cease-fire.)

  3. SamR says:

Funny how the number of troops being brought home is the same as the number for the surge. Why isn’t anyone asking why the rest aren’t coming home?

Why on earth are there still people that would listen to, let alone pay attention to, this failure of a person? He has accomplished nothing but pain and suffering. Too bad for the world that it extends far, far past our own borders

Ailing GIs Deployed To War Zones

    Denver Post | Erin Emery | January 17, 2008

Fort Carson sent soldiers who were not medically fit to war zones last month to meet “deployable strength” goals, according to e-mails obtained by The Denver Post.

One e-mail, written Jan. 3 by the surgeon for Fort Carson’s 3rd Brigade Combat Team, says: “We have been having issues reaching deployable strength, and thus have been taking along some borderline soldiers who we would otherwise have left behind for continued treatment.”

I don’t suppose those College Republicans are ready to step up to the plate, huh?

How ’bout the keyboard warriors here who’ve been gung ho for this war from the beginning?

    Hello?

A standing ovation for returning troop levels to the point they have been since 2003. Thats f#ckin’ progress. Democrats are spineless as hell. Watching Pelosi get up and clap, yeah taking impeachment off the table was a brilliant idea, huh? Complecency is guilt. You failed.

  8. 99Luf Balloons says:

Over 80 percent of Americans give President Bush’s SOTU speech a favorable rating.
Is that fromt he 80% OF YOUR ASS.
Bush has been, (since being conceived, an accident BTW) will always be a personal clusterfu(k. He has no morals or ethics. He uses religion as a club for his sordid sexually gratifying purposes. He is going down O.yeti. And it will be fun making you fu(kers watch his hanging, and seeing your own gallows waiting in the wings.

  9. cavjam says:

    Here’s the logic as used:

More troops = success, ergo we’re gonna have fewer troops. WTF?

The abatement, such as it is, of headline-making violence in Iraq is due mainly to three things – The U.S. doesn’t foray into Sunni areas anymore, preferring to bribe with cash and arms those Sunni who were previously attacking the invaders into quiescence; the monomorphism of Baghdad into a Shi’a city is nearly complete; the self-imposed moratorium of al Sadr and the absorption of the Badr Org into the corrupt Iraqi police and army. Those are the facts, Jack.

  10. barfly says:

“The clear success of General Petraeus masterful “surge” in reducing violence in Iraq and allowing for political reconciliation is allowing for our troops to come home as they are no longer needed.”

In other words, never. The political reconciliation just isn’t happening. Not that it isn’t happening fast enough – but that nothing of substance has occurred on the political front since the surge began. That’s a slight victory on which to hang your hat, not something to crow about. We still don’t know if it’s the surge, or other factors which has reduced the violence.

  11. crescentdave says:

@o.bigfoot: I call you on the so-called 80% approval rating of the SOTUS and raise you: a NATIONAL poll on what Americans think of Bush and the country: http://www.harrisinteractive.com/harris_poll/. It’s title? “State of the Union Rated Poorly by 4 out of 5 Americans”

In case you didn’t do the math: that’s 80 percent of Americans, nationally, who think the state of the union is doing poorly under bush.
