SOTU: Office Of Faith-Based Initiatives Has Been Ineffectual, Politicized

Bush said: “Faith-based groups are bringing hope to pockets of despair, with newfound support from the Federal Government.”

FACT — FAITH OFFICE USED MAINLY FOR POLITICAL PURPOSES: David Kuo, formerly Bush’s head of the Office of Faith-Based Initiatives, revealed that the office was mainly used “to mount ostensibly ‘nonpartisan’ events that were, in reality, designed with the intent of mobilizing religious voters in 20 targeted races.” National Christian leaders were mocked as “ridiculous” by White House officials behind their backs. [MSNBC, 10/13/06]

FACT — FAITH-BASED INITIATIVES NOT REACHING BLACK CHURCHES: A 2006 national survey of 750 black churches by the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies found that fewer than three percent of black churches have received funding from the Office of Faith-Based Initiatives. “The wackos get their information through the Christian right, Christian radio, mail, the internet and telephone trees,” Scanlon wrote in the memo, which was read into the public record at a hearing of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee. “Simply put, we want to bring out the wackos to vote against something and make sure the rest of the public lets the whole thing slip past them.”

Conservatives my ass. Daryll? Va Voter? Valiant Venus? Big (O)? Michael? Jason Hendler? Comments?

“Morality cannot be legislated. Nowhere in the New Testament can we learn that any agency save moral suasion was invoked to make people religious or moral.” -Sam Houston

Sam Houston. The greatest hero in Texas history, and also one of the smartest. Unlike the current a**clown who resides in the White House.

What ever happened to the seperation of Church and State. If the State cannot tax the Church then we shouldn’t be giving them money to spread their message. It can’t be both ways.

  5. Frosty Cupcake says:

I’m tired of the Orwellian “faith based” moniker. What we really mean is “church based”.

    Let’s call a spade a spade.

And Xisithrus? Those trolls merely exist to get attention from TP, they offer nothing in return.
