The Commerce Department announced today that the “economy almost stalled in the final quarter of last year with a growth rate of just 0.6 percent, culminating its worst year since 2002. … For all of 2007, the economy grew by just 2.2 percent, the weakest performance in five years, when the country was struggling to recover from the 2001 recession.”
I bet GDumbya is celebrating today. He has hit the trifecta for his presi-duncy:
– two recessions
– one failed war in Iraq
Finally, he has his legacy.
January 30th, 2008 at 10:08 amI told ya the last quarter was actually the beginning of the recession.
January 30th, 2008 at 10:15 ambut we have checks coming from china that we will spend at walmart to help china profit… how can this great economic plan fail?
January 30th, 2008 at 10:17 amThis is old news.
January 30th, 2008 at 10:18 amBaaaaad news for the Repugs. Can’t blame this on Clinton.
January 30th, 2008 at 10:19 amOh, Oh, Hurry and borrow a few more billion and CUT THOSE TAXES. Don’t worry, we’ll let our grandkids deal with paying it back.
January 30th, 2008 at 10:23 amBaaaaad news for the Repugs. Can’t blame this on Clinton.
Oh, they’ll find a way to pin it on the current Congress and Democratic earmarks. These guys are relentless when it comes to escaping responsibility for absolutely everything.
January 30th, 2008 at 10:26 amGeorge W. Bush’s greatest hits:
*9/11 attacks-2,900 dead. Perpetrators still at large.
*Anthrax attacks-5 dead. Perps still at large.
*Afghanistan war-700 US dead, 7 years, still not finished. Thousands of Afghans dead.
*Iraq war-3,940 US dead. Tens of thousands of dead Iraqis. 5 years ongoing. No end in sight.
*Iran regionally empowered and making renewed diplomatic deals with Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
*Russia newly enriched with massive oil revenues. Putin called Bush Hitler. Russia announcing they will not save the world from the evil Americans.
*China buying up US debt and US interests. China making diplomatic deals with Cuba, Venezuela and Australia and much of Africa. China telling the US to go screw and turning away US navy ships from Taiwan ports.
*US economy battered.
* America domestic political situation is dire.
*American infrastructure crumbling.
*Space shuttle lost over Texas(symbolic).
*New Orleans devastated and neglected.
*Record number of Bush cronies arrested, indicted, convicted.
Bush lovers blinded by ideology refuse to shoulder blame.

January 30th, 2008 at 10:27 amThe recession was present last June.
‘08 could easily see a depression.
Don’t count on the Feds to speak honestly about this. Ever.
Tighten your belt, pay off that credit card, hug your family more and hang on; it’s going to be a Hell of a ride down.

If ONLY they were as good at any single facet of “governing” as they are at avoiding responsibility… just ONE… I’d be amazed.

January 30th, 2008 at 10:29 amNice synopsis.
Scary, but you nailed it.
I can just see how the GOP will spin this: “Stalled” is good. It means things aren’t getting any worse…
January 30th, 2008 at 10:33 amRight, missmolly… they’ll say, “We had to slow the economy so when things got bad, the crash wouldn’t be so ugly, see? So in effect, by first going into a recession,we can then all ease into the coming depression more comfortably. The plan is working perfectly!”
January 30th, 2008 at 10:38 am“Shouldering the blame” would require some shoulders.
January 30th, 2008 at 10:46 amDidn’t the chymp use the phrase ‘economy isn’t growing as fast’?
January 30th, 2008 at 10:47 amI guess that would include nose diving into an empty swimming pool…
That little detail would pretty much seals the fact that we’ve slid into recession already this quarter. All we’re doing is waiting for the confirming data report in 60 days.
January 30th, 2008 at 11:19 amWhat do you believe the government should do to stimulate the economy.

January 30th, 2008 at 11:22 amSupply-side, trickle-down, big-spend, low-tax-the-rich, no-oversight-war-profiteering, thievery is bringing this economy to a grinding halt–should anyone with half a brain be surprised?
January 30th, 2008 at 11:49 amWait a sec– didn’t Troll John Kerry say that the economy was going great?
I’m confused.
January 30th, 2008 at 12:14 pmThem dam libruls are destroying Amerka!

January 30th, 2008 at 1:37 pmWell, there is one more thing the blind Bush followers were wrong about: The “roaring” economy. What a pile of rubbish.
