Damn.
The only anti-corporate candidate in the race.
The only candidate not accepting money from big Corporate entities.
The only candidate with honest answers on health care.
Perhaps the above is why he can’t finish higher than third, I’m not sure. One rumor out there is he would be Obama’s AG. That would be a hell of a lot better than the McCain choice, which would have LIEberman as VP & Rotten 9/11 Rudy as AG.
Can you imagine Rudy as AG? He’d make Gonzo look like Jesus Christ.
Edwards did not get any support from his own party….even the man who ran with him in last presidential election, Senator Kerry went to support Obama, the Kennedys and others went to support Obama.
The Democrats machine, black and white are rallying behind Hillary. The people outside the machine are considering Obama.
If Hillary wins…there will be no change at all…with McCain on the other side…the war party had won.
Hillary as much war monger as McCain…she is trying to tune her voice of war down during the primaries..but you will hear her voice loudly soon should she win the nomination , it will be all for war…
It is sad that while the majority of Americans are calling for end to this war…the warmongers are winning the elections.
Just how did these choices get whittled down for us who have had no say yet? What an appalling system where the average America is either left out of the process or is swayed by corporate interests. Fools.
Way to go , MSM ; once again , you have reared your ugly head and decided by completely ignoring Edwards , you can determine who remains a viable candidate.
Heaven forbid that someone wanting and willing to help the poor ever gets heard………………..The corporatocracy of the US is now complete ; they now decide who will remain to run for president.
I thought it read “WE THE PEOPLE” …………….I was wrong.
As I correctly predicted after Edwards’ disastrous defeat in Iowa. Like I posted the night of the Iowa caucus, if he couldn’t win Iowa, he wasn’t going to win anywhere.
I have to concur with most of the posters here that it’s indeed sad that John Edwards is done. This country really needs to stray from being owned by the corporate world and to be returned to the people. Good luck John and thanks for your efforts.
I think it just shows that America does not want to become socialist.
Comment by VA Voter
This Republiscum tool actually thinks that America had a say in whether or not Edwards was the Presidential nominee. I guess he missed the part where the Democratic machine turned their backs on him and the “libural” media did a virtual black-out on his campaign. What a tool and what a fool. he is.
I think it just shows that America does not want to become socialist.

Hey turdburglar.
The morons who back the same crappy party that you do , proved how absolutely moronic you all are last night.
More than half of the GOP voters last night claimed that the economy was the No#1 issue on their mind ……And so they went out , and voted for the CANDIDATE THAT IS THE LEAST KNOWLEDGEABLE IN THAT PARTICULAR AREA , in Frankenstein McLame.
As I correctly predicted after Edwards’ disastrous defeat in Iowa. Like I posted the night of the Iowa caucus, if he couldn’t win Iowa, he wasn’t going to win anywhere.

A troll prophet Exley has spoken and we must all pay attention. He is the one who is in the know.
I could have predicted that Edwards wasn’t going to make it and it didn’t have anything to do with his defeat in Iowa. It had everything to do with our rigged “two party” system where our parties and the “libural” media pick who will run.
Just how did these choices get whittled down for us who have had no say yet? What an appalling system where the average America is either left out of the process or is swayed by corporate interests. Fools.

Money.
That’s the answer. It takes an absurd amount of money to run a campaign, and fundraising is far more important to a candidate than votes. The primary race is not about who best represents Americans’ views, or who has the best platform, or who has the most potential to change or unite the country. It’s about who can raise the most cash to pay for transportation and attack ads and pollsters and advisors and lawyers and marketers. If you don’t get the news coverage, you can’t raise the cash, and if you can’t raise the cash, you don’t get the news coverage and get dropped from the debates. And thus the “unfavorable elements” are whittled away by the corporate system.
The entire campaign system needs a major overhaul. Unfortunately, the people in the position to do anything about the corrupt system got to their positions by the grace of this corrupt system. So nothing will change.
Corporatists, however, did not succeed with Rotten Rudy.
He was their man. They did not expect Americans to ignore Mr. 9/11, but we did.
Many voters have the ‘Diogenes affect’, and are looking for an honest man. Edwards may have been that man.
Corporatists despise honesty; it’s bad for the bottom line.
And to our Vulnerable Adult Voter blowing smoke here, you can take your faux socialist concerns to Mr. Macaca, whom you most likely support even though he’s dead meat.
As I correctly predicted after Edwards’ disastrous defeat in Iowa. Like I posted the night of the Iowa caucus, if he couldn’t win Iowa, he wasn’t going to win anywhere.

Easy for you to pick out who’s gonna’ lose ; you’ve been backing Chimpy for these past 7 years , haven’t you ?
You would be wise to do so, Bilbo. I was excoriated by various posters when I made my now-proven-to-be-correct prediction on Iowa caucus night. Vindication is always pleasant.
The whole primaries and caucusing system stinks….
Voting should be done for all states in one day…yes in one day.
If we have one day election…then probabaly McCain might not be the winner yesterday…probably Senators Biden, Gravel, rep. Kucinich will score much higher..
It is sad to decide the nominee based on results from few races of small states, which are ahead on the schedule of many other big states.
It happens in every presidential elections.
It is not a fair and honest representation.
Be sure also that voting machines have some paper backing….
Exley was not vindicated. Anyone on this board could have predicted that Edwards would not be the candidate. He was anti corporation and since the corporations own this country and our political system, it didn’t take a rocket scientist to know that his candidacy and that of Kucinich were doomed from the get go. But I am willing to allow this loon his delusions of grandeur, since his head is going to explode on the day after the 2008 election.
The people are getting what they deserve. In this country the change MUST come from the voters. Problem is not enough people vote. Everyone gets all excited that 50% of the population bothered to vote in a general election. We hear about what a great turnout it was. 50% is failure. It’s nothing to be proud of.
People in this country are great at looking at others (politicians) as the problem, but in reality it is the people who are the problem. There is way to much apathy in this country. Way to many people who don’t care or believe their vote doesn’t count. We keep electing the same mistake over and over. Has anything gotten better for the majority of the population over the last 40 years? Has education gotten better? Health Care? Poverty? Pollution? Energy? Are we not still trying to fix these problems? Only we can force the changes we want. Politicians will not do it on their own. If we want more choices in this country we must make more choices. Don’t look to the media to do it, or the government, or religion because they have no interest in it.
We all know people who don’t participate in this country. They are happy to let others do the work and then they complain about the outcome. Well it’s up to us to give these people a swift kick in the butt and make them participate. Talk to them about it, drag them to a rally, shame or embarrass them into getting involved. The fewer people participate in this country the more the politicians and media owners like it. It’s not good enough to just live in this country. It is a responsibility to be involved it the decision making. It really isn’t asking very much, and the rewards can be great for everyone.
It’s obvious now that were going to end up with a couple of mediocre choices for the next president. It will be up to all of us to make that next president and the congress do what we want, and if they don’t we have to make sure they are looking for another line of work.
We all can see what no oversight has done to the stock market. That oversight is supposed to come from our elected officials. But for our elected officials to do their job they must also be subjected to oversight, and that is our job. We haven’t been doing a very good job of it.
“Exley has spoken and we must all pay attention.â€

Yeah, & Ex Lax was soooo right about the ‘06 elections, eh!
Hillary is trying to get Dean to restore the delegates from Mi. & Fla.
Gov. Dean, you have to stand up to your original decision on this.
Florida & Michigan knew the consequences of moving up their primaries when they made that decision.
This plays into Edwards’ decision, as well. Hillary must not be given ‘dead delegates’ to resurrect her relevance. Period.
Can you make a point? Or at lest try without resorting to 1st grade name calling?

You all should be beaten with shovels before being deported ………..
He talked about policy more than politics and was too direct and progressive for the DNC and too substantial for the MSM, and that’s why I always doubted he’d get to make his mark.
He deserves a high office that he can really exercise. VP would be good, or anything that involves domestic policies (Labor? Justice?).
I think he’s being sensible. It’s a damn shame though.
I forgot to mention something. Congratulations to Hillary on her overwhelming victory in Florida. Hillary received more votes than any other candidate in the primaries, Republican or Democrat!
To VA Voter: perhaps there is concern about socialism but there is a more immediate concern. The US is losing on every front in core issues. Socialism is the least of our worries as the ship gets righted. I don’t believe that Hillary (bill) or McCain has at heart the concern to address the corporate interests that are subverting everything for their own self-interest. You can’t keep two ends of the line strong with no inner support, meaning the average American. Sigh..
I knew Exley would be here basking the glow of his own self-satisfaction before I even clicked on the thread – now, if his predictions for Iraq ever panned out, then he’d have something to crow about…
though i knew edwards would not be a major winner in the upcoming tuesday primaries, i’d hoped that he would garner even more delegates and that would grant him “kingmaker” status…
he had MY vote…
i just wonder why he didn’t wait 1 more week…
the money wouldn’t've made that much difference at this stage…

I’m sure such a thing already exists. But I suspect the discussions there are generally circular or redundant in nature. Also, how many times can you discuss whether or not to ban smoking?
Or how about “should we hold this administration accountable for the massive amount of debt they created in going into Iraq
Or here’s one “Why can a VP shoot somebody in the face while drinking and on heart meds and not be held accountable?â€
The local DA didn’t press charges. May have something to do with the fact that they guy that didn’t die never pressed charges. And all of the apple witnesses said it was not intentional.
Yes. They did have an election in 2004 that showed support and in 2006 that did not.

The Clintons produced the greatest economic boom in the history of the United States. Not to mention that not one American soldier died in combat under the Clintons (Bush Sr. sent our troops to Somalia, not the Clintons).
Damn. This is so depressing. There goes the one candidate we could count on to beat any and all Republicans. Now I’m afraid it’s up for grabs.

I agree. Two suggestions:
1) All Primaries should be held on the same day.
2) Set a system of rotation in which four states are scheduled to vote two weeks before everyone else votes. The four early states would rotate so that every 12 elections or so, the states would have their “early advantage”.
This would ensure that no state retains a permenant advantage over any others.
I don’t really know, MC. I’m more than a little aghast at this point myself.
For the life of me, if the head of a corporation did as badly as Botch, the board of directors would have removed that man so tartly by now. Yet the GOOPers continue to sing this man’s praises, and act like everything is so hunky dory. And we are in so much trouble as a country.
But… if we could only get constitutional amendments to ban gay marriage and flag burning… there’s got to be a bad joke somewhere in there about flaming faggots…

As for Bush AWOL being debunked? You make me chuckle. Dan Rather is not the story, his information is insignificant. There is no documentation stating Bush was where he said he was. there’s still a $10,000 reward for anyone that can positively place Bush where he said he was. Still no takers.
Vince Foster myth has been debunked. Kennedy, I agree.

John Edwards could never win. The financial interests in this country want the right sort of candidate. A candidate the understands the way things work and will suck at the teat of corporate money so necessary to play a part in our national politics. I am reminded of the movie NETWORK:T
here is no America. There is no democracy. There is only IBM, and ITT, and AT and T, and DuPont, Dow, Union Carbide, and Exxon – those are the nations of the world today. What do you think the Russians talk about in their councils of state – Karl Marx? They get out their linear programming charts, statistical decision theories and mini-max solutions and compute the price-cost probabilities of their transactions and investments just like we do. We no longer live in a world of nations and ideologies, Mr. Beale. The world is a college of corporations, inexorably determined by the immutable by-laws of business. The world is a business, Mr. Beale. It has been since man crawled out of the slime, and our children will live, Mr. Beale, to see that perfect world in which there’s no war or famine, oppression or brutality. One vast and ecumenical holding company, for whom all men will work to serve a common profit, in which all men will hold a share of stock, all necessities provided, all anxieties tranquilized, all boredom amused. And I have chosen you to preach this evangel, Mr. Beale.
John Edwards was a populist. He placed the interest of the individual over that of property, the business or profit. However, such a voice will never be heard long in this country. The revised bankruptcy law provided the basis to create long term, indentured servitude to those who fall behind and seek its protection, something Edwards would have fought. Stagnant and falling wages for the vast majority, increased concentration of wealth and the diminishment or end of the social safety net will economically slave many. It is the end of the individual as Mr. Beale learned and as John Edwards now confronts:
It’s the individual that’s finished. It’s the single, solitary human being that’s finished. It’s every single one of you out there that’s finished. Because this is no longer a nation of independent individuals. It’s a nation of some two hundred odd million transistorized, deodorized, whiter-than-white, steel-belted bodies, totally unnecessary as human beings and as replaceable as piston rods. Well, the time has come to say, ‘Is dehumanization such a bad word?’ Because good or bad, that’s what is so. The whole world is becoming humanoid, creatures that look human but aren’t. The whole world, not just us. We’re just the most advanced country, so we’re getting there first. The whole world’s people are becoming mass-produced, programmed, numbered, insensate things…
I find it hilarious that someone calling themselves VA voter would be ranting on socialism. Um, genius the Veterans Administration is run by the government. Is it too complex for you to grasp? If you’re so anti socialist I hope you don’t get any healthcare from the VA on principle.
All the states should vote on the same day for the primary. This is so on fair that a few states decide who we should vote for. The media is a real problem too.

a rumor started in your own head?

anyway, even before i read that, i’d recalled the times that edwards and hillary had put their heads together, possibly conspiring…
Edward’s demise is the result of the MSM controlling the message, plain and simple. They didn’t give him the coverage, probably largely due to this anti-Corporate policies. Big media would never want a Prez that could threaten the gov’t teat which they suckle. Just be thankful that the gov’t doesn’t control the Internet(yet) so he was able to get some reasonable objective consideration here.
The Edwards for AG rumor was told on MSNBC a few days ago. I think both of these candidates need to seriously consider John as a running mate(though he’s said he doesn’t want the #2 spot) or the AG slot. He would do more good with the latter and be no less viable for another Presidential run at a later date.

I could certainly stand to live in Vancouver. I was up there on business about a year ago and the place is jumping. Unemployment is something near zero — “You have to be working really hard not to have a job.” — construction is going crazy, but it’s all extremely well-planned and consolidated. I saw young snowboarders who could go from home to the slopes in less than one hour, all on public transit. The beer needs a little work, and Canadians can’t pour a dram of whiskey to save their lives, but still . . .
I believe in the 10th Amendment. I also know I have an easier time talking to my state rep than I do talking to the president. That’s the point.

Ummm , when you have the most dishonest and secretive president and administration in US history , who only hold ‘town hall’ meetings with pre-screened individuals that are Chimpy backing sycophants , of course it’s gonna be easier to speak to your local and state rep(s).
It ’s easier to get a meet and greet with the Pope than the retarded simian in the Oval Office……….
BTW The 10th Amendment still doesn’t give any state the power to usurp the federal government ; and for a reason.
Those like yourself want to be able to hang confederate flags , which is basically nothing more than a symbol of hate ; yet you all become apoplectic when someone burns the US flag in protest.
I like Edwards, but I think his dropping out is well-timed. I’m hoping that this helps Obama, since I think many of Edwards’s supporters will now go for Obama. And Edwards is sufficiently well-liked that he’ll probably be asked to serve in either a Clinton administration or an Obama administration. Well-played, Mr. Edwards.
What I don’t understand is how an endorsement from a sitting Congress person is a good thing. They obviously want to “stay the course” regarding the current f#@#cking broken system, so of course they are going to endorse only those that keep the gravy train running. The lack of Congressional endorsements for Edwards was very telling to me. He did want change. He wanted to fix our broken America.
The whole primary and cacaus system should be replaced by one day vote for all states. We must make sure also that vote it is done in a day when everybody has a day off.
Advantages:
1. No manipulation by the media.
2. No manipulation by daily polls.
3. A big cut on elections spending.
4. Fairness to all states, and candidates.
Why the media likes this system:
because they can manipulate our thinking; the primaries attract viewers.
and they can push the candidates they like on us…
Our whole election system needs fixing, so people can be truly represented, and not just the few and the elite.
Still looking at a Obama/Edwards ticket.
Sure would beat the hell out of a McCain/Giuliani, flip flop, cross dressing ticket!
(the above was just my opinion, therefore I feel not the need to provide facts and/or links!)
Exley, yes, you predicted he would drop out (after Iowa), but you didn’t go out on a limb, did ya? In fact, you were in the majority. It’s kinda like saying “If the Patriots can win the AFC championship, they will win the Super Bowl”
(off topic, but nice trade, eh? glad to see Santana out of the AL central. Mets vs Tigers, 2008???)
Hi Arn…..never quite know where you stand on things…../sarc
to the point and correct though.
what the trolls call:
Edwards’ disastrous defeat in Iowa, etc.
I think the bright young man we call John Edwards will be part of the next admin. He will bring good things to America just by being part of it. Wherever he serves.
Can’t say the same for julieanie who suffered a disastrous defeat in fla.
That’s too bad. I thought he had a lot to offer the country, especially when it comes to real health care reform. I voted for him yesterday even though 1) I knew his days as a candidate were numbered, and 2) I’m a Floridian, so Howard Dean doesn’t think my vote should matter.
Most of my Republican friends (who are quite alot, now that I think of it) fear Hillary more than Obama and Edwards. Not sure why, as Hillary is just Republican Lite. Maybe it’s because they’ve been force fed to hate the Clintons, from the extreme right (Rush, Newt, et al.)

The Big Money/MSM cabal must certainly be high-fiving this morning, having again received proof positive that they control the destiny of this country, ensuring continued corporate profits, at the expense of the lower and middle classes.
No one, absolutely no one, can survive the process of running for president without first selling their soul to these king-makers, and must convince them that they will continue to place corporate profits above all else. Big Money/MSM choses the survivors in both parties, by refusing to provide coverage for those who might serve as a voice for the working class in this country and when they do provide coverage, it will surely be negative (i.e., criticism for running after the return of Elizabeth’s cancer; being labeled derisively as a wealthy trial lawyer, although several candidates had incomes last year that dwarfed John’s; being referred to as a “Breck girl; etc.). Yes, they can all rest easy — all remaining candidates will do their best to protect the status quo and meaningful change for the better will not occur.
An apt analogy would be that of the promoters for pro wrestling matches, who continually assess profits resulting from various outcomes, and who decide, prior to each match, who the “winner” will be. Politics in this country has truly sunk to that level.
Think it’s always been this way? According to the account of the 1980 election, as described on the wikipedia website, “Under federal election laws, Carter and Reagan received $29 million each, and Anderson $18.5 million. They were not allowed to spend any other money. ” Repeat — “They were not allowed to spend any other money.”
Today represents another sad milestone along this country’s unrelenting march into oblivion.
“The means of defense against foreign danger historically have become the instruments of tyranny at home.” — James Madison
Oh great, the only two candidates that actually want to help the American public instead of corporations get shunned by the corporate sponsored media have to drop out of the race.
Looks like the MSM has picked Republican Lite as who we deserve to have as President.
Obama can beat McInsane, Hillary can’t. The system is rigged.
My top two choices, Kucinich and Edwards, have dropped out of the race, and my state’s primary isn’t even until the end of May. This usually happens every presidential primary election. I feel like I have no say/choice when it comes to who’ll be the nominee. I’m not thrilled at this point with either Clinton or Obama. I’m hoping that by the 2012 election, there will be at least regional primaries, if not a national one, where I feel like my vote counts. At this point my attitude is “why bother even voting in the primary,” even though when it comes down to it I will. Maybe by May I can be somewhat enthusiatic about who’s left on the ballot. We’ll see. . .
I got mad four years ago when I was a Howard Dean supporter and my candidate was drummed out of the race before the process had even nearly begun.
The entire process is a farce. Serious candidates should be in it until the convention. It doesn’t make any sense to me that a strong third candidate like Edwards would drop out.
It would have been nice to have an Edwards/Obama ticket. Edwards had the definite advantage as the populist voice, one for which I think the country would follow. Obama is still somewhat unknown and untested. (Edwards did serve his term in the Senate but also went through the campaign with Kerry) Obama would then have been prepared as the successor after Edwards two terms. Hillary is just too tied to the corporate side.
For those that planned on voting (or already voted) for Sen. Edwards, will you support the candidate that eventually wins the Democratic Nomination?
I just wonder if the Sen. Edwards supporters will vote Democratic, or stay home and not vote at all.
Another interesting question will be who will actually win the nomination. The last time a “dark horse” candidate won the Democratic Nomination was in 1924 where John Davis was chosen. He lost to Calvin Coolidge. If the first vote of the convention doesn’t find a clear winner (2025 votes) then the delegates can vote for anyone they want! The only “mandated” vote for promised delegates is the first vote!
The MSM drummed out Dean (the only truly anti-war candidate at the time) because of his entusiasm. They have now knocked off Edwards. Edwards was the only one to win hands-down against ANY of the Repubs – why was this monumental fact glossed over????
This is a very sad day indeed. I am begining to get the same feeling I had when Bush won in 2004 – sick and sinking.
BTW- the only explanation for Edwards dropping out before super tuesday is to help Obama beat Clinton. He won’t go for VP, with his wife’s cancer, he will drop out of the public eye completely.
I hope that everyone here understands that Ed Schultz was a Ronald Reagan Republican before they gave him his talk show. Maybe that’s why the Clintons avoid Ed Schultz and why Ed Schultz runs a “Hillary Hater” website.
But hey…does the idea of Edwards as AG make anybody else giddy? We could have some…dare I say…OVERSIGHT!!!!!!
I do think, though, that most people who would vote for Clinton are voting for Clinton, and that this will benefit Obama, which is also happy-town. I would have preferred Edwards, but within our political reality, having only one person against Hillary is best, especially if we can get him as AG.
delafield – what you know about ed schultz would not even

You didn’t see Ed Schultz’s interview on C-Span when he announced that he was hired to host his new radio show. Ed Schultz admitted that he IS a Republican. I know this is a shock but facts are facts. Ed Schultz is a Ronald Reagan Republican.
Ed Schultz said that he supported Ronald Reagan. Didn’t you know that Ed Schultz is a Republican?

Also from the Amato post:
“John Edwards has done a good job of articulating his populist positions and had attracted a large number of voters, (not enough to stay in the race) none of whom made their choice because a “woman†or a “black†is in the field.”
Of course, the truth lies between the left and right points of view. Edwards obviously has a large constituency that supports him for his positions. It is not true that “none” of his supporters made their choice because they didn’t want to vote for a black person or a woman. There are still a fair number of staunch Democrats, mostly older and/or lower income people, who have such reservations. ;)
Yes, I agree with you. It was obvious once Edwards did not win Iowa that he was not going to win anywhere and certainly had zero chance to win the nomination. That is why I was so surprised when I saw theseEdwards fanatics begin lambasting me for making that analysis. They foolishly believed Edwards had a shot after his disastrous showing in Iowa.
As for the trade, I am ecstatic! Johan Santana is a Met!!!!! (Of course, I have the natural caution of a Mets fan who has seen many great, “sure-fire” players collapse once they put on a Mets uniform — Carlos Baerga and Roberto Alomar anyone???)

ENOUGH!
delafield, I don’t know who you are, but I do know Ed Shultz. I went to college with him. He was the quarterback on our football team.
You are full of crap here. Up to your eyeballs.
Ed was a Rightie at one time in his life. That’s why we didn’t hit it off in school. He had an epiphany when he met his wife, Wendy. She’s a Psych Nurse, who took him to a homeless shelter for bologna sandwiches to show him the ‘other side’. He had an awakening.
Get your facts straight, please. You sound an awful lot like one of those insipid ‘Concern Trolls’ who lurk just to spiel contrary comments and redirect threads.
Ed was a big supporter of Hillary until she showed her corporate allegiances. He turned on her about the same time I did.
I’m proud Ed found his true calling. Quit making shit up & hoping it will stick…you’re not dealing with Republics here.
Last year ago, around the sixth anniversary of 9/11, a leading presidential candidate held a fundraiser that was billed as a Homeland Security themed event in Washington, D.C. targeted to homeland security lobbyists and contractors for $1000 a plate. These lobbyists, for the price of a ticket, would get a special “treatâ€â€”the opportunity to participate in small, hour long breakout sessions with key Democratic lawmakers, many of whom chair important sub committees of homeland security committee. That candidate was Senator Clinton.
Today, Hillary Clinton has taken more money from Washington lobbyists than any candidate from either party – Democratic or Republican.
She has taken more money from the defense industry, more money from Wall Street than any other candidate from either party as well.
We have a duty– a duty to end this.
I believe you cannot be for change and take money from the lobbyists who prevent change. You cannot take on the entrenched interests in Washington if you choose to defend the broken system. It will not work.
I have learned there are much more important things in life than winning elections at the cost of selling your soul.
It’s time to tell the truth. And the truth is the system in Washington is corrupt. It is rigged by the powerful special interests to benefit they very few at the expense of the many.
And as a result, the American people have lost faith in our broken system in Washington, and believe it no longer works for ordinary Americans. They’re right.
If protecting the current established structure in Washington is in your interest, then I am not your candidate.
This corruption did not begin yesterday– and it did not even begin with George Bush– it has been building for decades– until it now threatens literally the life of our democracy.
Down one path, we trade corporate Democrats for corporate Republicans; our cronies for their cronies; one political dynasty for another dynasty; and all we are left with is a Democratic version of the Republican corruption machine.
And Americans are kept in the dark because the corporate lobbyists have pushed back country of origin labeling laws again and again.
Senator Clinton’s road to the middle class takes a major detour right through the deep canyon of corporate lobbyists and the hidden bidding of K Street in Washington– and history tells us that when that bus stops there it is the middle class that loses.
We can liberate our government from the shackles of corporate money that bind it to corporate will, and restore the voices of our people to its halls.
It is incredible what America has accomplished. Because no matter what extraordinary challenges we have been faced with, we did exactly what America has always done in our history– we rose to the challenge.
Is MSM picking our candidate? Why didn’t Edwards wait until after Feb. 5th?
From what I have heard, Edwards has been talking to Obama…. maybe a strong ticket will happen.
Are some of perhaps making the same mistake with Herr Schumer that has been made with the Bubble Boy — that is, framing his actions as negligent rather than willful? After all, negligent homicide typically results in a much milder sentence than premeditated murder.
Franklin Delano Roosevelt provided us with a blueprint many years ago to use as a template for understanding such situations when he stated…
“In politics, nothing happens by accident. If it happened, you can bet it was planned that way.”
zomzone – great story that you can relate first hand! … pretty cool…
it took me a while, but i’ve come to appreciate listening to schultz…
i listen on XM and his show runs at the same time as thom hartmann on AirAmericaRadio… THAT upset me big time, it happening the same time as losing sam seder to that idiot lionul…
but schultz has always been upfront about his political leanings, past
and present… the more people listen to him, i think they’d find that he represents them more than they thought, or wanted to admit…
i gave that one several links – aka homework – that spelled it all out and made it obvious that i knew all about ed’s story…
…
So the damned corporations with their celebrity framing have already chosen our candidates?
Why start campaigning so early, only to drop out before the primaries? Talk about squandering money!!!
Isn’t it more important to have enough money to get through the Super-Tuesday events than to have a handful of states making their choice and everybody else in the country left in the cold!!!!!
The only people to benefit from this are the big media corporations. We the People lose and lose again.
Instead of disenfranchising states that jump the gun, or giving delegates to a candidate who breaks her promise, why don’t we simply enact a new law: all primaries and caucuses will take place on a single day. Since airwaves are not blocked by state lines, let candidates spend money in whatever markets they wish when they wish, but all voting gets done on one day. Period.
No winnowing. No going with whomever has momentum. Just a pure choice based upon issues.
For those that planned on voting (or already voted) for Sen. Edwards, will you support the candidate that eventually wins the Democratic Nomination?
Comment by Democrat Soldier
This Edwards supporter certainly will. There’s no way in hell I’d vote to put another Republican in the White House.
And I think Edwards would make a great Attorney General. Wouldn’t it be nice to have an AG who believes in the constitution?
Although many are obviously fans of Ed Schultz, this writer has become increasingly disenchanted with him over the past couple of years. I listen occasionally just to get an sense about the mainstream news media take on issues.
Schultz seems to derive most of his information from mainstream news sources, which leaves him clueless regarding much that occurs in this country, but is only reported by overseas news organizations. He obviously does not have the sense of history and its application in the present that Thom Hartmann does. And his treatment of callers who disagree with him is deplorable, reminiscent of Bill O’Reilly, and surprisingly, Mike Malloy actually treats callers presenting opposing viewpoints with far more respect.
I’ve seen Ed in person twice, and during the most recent event, he presented as a Republican running for office (he’d previously considered running for office in North Dakota). He was loudly booed during an appearance in Seattle ( http://www.am1090seattle.com/pages/582254.php ) for statements that insulted many of the progressive in the audience.
For more information, the wikipedia website provides some interesting background information. It does appear that he may have a bit of a problem with his temper. For more details, please see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ed_Schultz
The system is broken beyond repair.

January 30th, 2008 at 9:25 amEdwards did not get any support from his own party….even the man who ran with him in last presidential election, Senator Kerry went to support Obama, the Kennedys and others went to support Obama.
Are American truly represented….?!!

January 30th, 2008 at 9:53 amCorporatists, however, did not succeed with Rotten Rudy.

January 30th, 2008 at 9:57 amThe whole primaries and caucusing system stinks….

January 30th, 2008 at 10:01 amThe people are getting what they deserve.

January 30th, 2008 at 10:06 amWhy do those like yourself who are singularly responsible for foisting upon us the abomination that has been the Chimpy presidency , believe you have any leeway to ask for anything ; especially a call for how people behave/address you mental furballs ?
You all should be beaten with shovels before being deported ………..
I guess I knew it was coming, but it still stung anyway. Still stings a bit right now.
January 30th, 2008 at 10:07 amKaty I don’t get the impression you are being selfish.
January 30th, 2008 at 10:07 amEdwards was outmanouvered from the start.
January 30th, 2008 at 10:08 amBless The Edwards Family.

We have lost our Democracy kids. It’s over
January 30th, 2008 at 10:09 amI forgot to mention something. Congratulations to Hillary on her overwhelming victory in Florida. Hillary received more votes than any other candidate in the primaries, Republican or Democrat!
January 30th, 2008 at 10:09 amI guess its up to me now to carry the “good hair” for the Dems.
January 30th, 2008 at 10:12 amTo VA Voter: perhaps there is concern about socialism but there is a more immediate concern. Sigh..

The problem is that this discussion is often derailed by trolls who wander in and start blasting RNC talking points.

January 30th, 2008 at 10:52 amI don’t really know, MC. I’m more than a little aghast at this point myself.

John Edwards could never win. The financial interests in this country want the right sort of candidate. A candidate the understands the way things work and will suck at the teat of corporate money so necessary to play a part in our national politics. I am reminded of the movie NETWORK:T

January 30th, 2008 at 11:16 amEdward’s demise is the result of the MSM controlling the message, plain and simple.

The beer needs a little work, and Canadians can’t pour a dram of whiskey to save their lives, but still . . .

January 30th, 2008 at 11:19 amI like Edwards, but I think his dropping out is well-timed. I’m hoping that this helps Obama, since I think many of Edwards’s supporters will now go for Obama. And Edwards is sufficiently well-liked that he’ll probably be asked to serve in either a Clinton administration or an Obama administration. Well-played, Mr. Edwards.
January 30th, 2008 at 11:21 amWhat I don’t understand is how an endorsement from a sitting Congress person is a good thing. They obviously want to “stay the course” regarding the current f#@#cking broken system, so of course they are going to endorse only those that keep the gravy train running. The lack of Congressional endorsements for Edwards was very telling to me. He did want change. He wanted to fix our broken America.
January 30th, 2008 at 11:24 amThe whole primary and cacaus system should be replaced by one day vote for all states. We must make sure also that vote it is done in a day when everybody has a day off.
Advantages:
1. No manipulation by the media.
2. No manipulation by daily polls.
3. A big cut on elections spending.
4. Fairness to all states, and candidates.
Why the media likes this system:
January 30th, 2008 at 11:25 ambecause they can manipulate our thinking; the primaries attract viewers.
and they can push the candidates they like on us…
Our whole election system needs fixing, so people can be truly represented, and not just the few and the elite.
i’d recalled the times that edwards and hillary had put their heads together, possibly conspiring…

Edwards and Hillary would be an awsome team for America. I think there’s a 95% chance that it’s going to happen.
January 30th, 2008 at 11:31 amStill looking at a Obama/Edwards ticket.
Sure would beat the hell out of a McCain/Giuliani, flip flop, cross dressing ticket!

Exley, yes, you predicted he would drop out (after Iowa), but you didn’t go out on a limb, did ya? In fact, you were in the majority. It’s kinda like saying “If the Patriots can win the AFC championship, they will win the Super Bowl”

January 30th, 2008 at 11:37 amThat’s too bad. I thought he had a lot to offer the country, especially when it comes to real health care reform. I voted for him yesterday even though 1) I knew his days as a candidate were numbered, and 2) I’m a Floridian, so Howard Dean doesn’t think my vote should matter.
January 30th, 2008 at 11:42 amMost of my Republican friends (who are quite alot, now that I think of it) fear Hillary more than Obama and Edwards. Not sure why, as Hillary is just Republican Lite. Maybe it’s because they’ve been force fed to hate the Clintons, from the extreme right (Rush, Newt, et al.)
January 30th, 2008 at 11:42 amEdward’s demise is the result of the MSM controlling the message, plain and simple.

January 30th, 2008 at 11:52 amThe Big Money/MSM cabal must certainly be high-fiving this morning, having again received proof positive that they control the destiny of this country, ensuring continued corporate profits, at the expense of the lower and middle classes.

January 30th, 2008 at 11:53 amOh great, the only two candidates that actually want to help the American public instead of corporations get shunned by the corporate sponsored media have to drop out of the race.

January 30th, 2008 at 11:54 amMy top two choices, Kucinich and Edwards, have dropped out of the race, and my state’s primary isn’t even until the end of May. We’ll see. . .

Thanks katy,
My vote will go to Senator Clinton, of course.
January 30th, 2008 at 12:45 pmIt would have been nice to have an Edwards/Obama ticket.
January 30th, 2008 at 12:50 pmFor those that planned on voting (or already voted) for Sen.
January 30th, 2008 at 12:51 pmThe MSM drummed out Dean (the only truly anti-war candidate at the time) because of his entusiasm.
Good Job America – Populism is DEAD!
January 30th, 2008 at 12:52 pmWhere will the Edwards supporters go now that he will drop out of the race? My guess is they will split between Barack and Hillary…but who knows?

January 30th, 2008 at 3:30 pmJohn Edwards: In His Own Words
January 30th, 2008 at 4:01 pmIs MSM picking our candidate? Why didn’t Edwards wait until after Feb. 5th?
January 30th, 2008 at 4:39 pmFrom what I have heard, Edwards has been talking to Obama…. maybe a strong ticket will happen.

A single day.

And I think Edwards would make a great Attorney General. Wouldn’t it be nice to have an AG who believes in the constitution?
January 30th, 2008 at 10:24 pmAlthough many are obviously fans of Ed Schultz, this writer has become increasingly disenchanted with him over the past couple of years.
