Ed was a big supporter of Hillary until she showed her corporate allegiances. He turned on her about the same time I did.

If you're so dead set against anyone who shows allegiance to any corporation, then how can you possibly support Obama?

Although many are obviously fans of Ed Schultz, this writer has become increasingly disenchanted with him over the past couple of years. I listen occasionally just to get an sense about the mainstream news media take on issues.

Schultz seems to derive most of his information from mainstream news sources, which leaves him clueless regarding much that occurs in this country, but is only reported by overseas news organizations. He obviously does not have the sense of history and its application in the present that Thom Hartmann does. And his treatment of callers who disagree with him is deplorable, reminiscent of Bill O'Reilly, and surprisingly, Mike Malloy actually treats callers presenting opposing viewpoints with far more respect.

I've seen Ed in person twice, and during the most recent event, he presented as a Republican running for office (he'd previously considered running for office in North Dakota). He was loudly booed during an appearance in Seattle ( http://www.am1090seattle.com/pages/582254.php ) for statements that insulted many of the progressive in the audience.

For more information, the wikipedia website provides some interesting background information. It does appear that he may have a bit of a problem with his temper. For more details, please see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ed_Schultz

For those that planned on voting (or already voted) for Sen. Edwards, will you support the candidate that eventually wins the Democratic Nomination?
Comment by Democrat Soldier

This Edwards supporter certainly will. There's no way in hell I'd vote to put another Republican in the White House.

And I think Edwards would make a great Attorney General. Wouldn't it be nice to have an AG who believes in the constitution?

So the damned corporations with their celebrity framing have already chosen our candidates?

Why start campaigning so early, only to drop out before the primaries? Talk about squandering money!!!

Isn't it more important to have enough money to get through the Super-Tuesday events than to have a handful of states making their choice and everybody else in the country left in the cold!!!!!

The only people to benefit from this are the big media corporations. We the People lose and lose again.

Instead of disenfranchising states that jump the gun, or giving delegates to a candidate who breaks her promise, why don't we simply enact a new law: all primaries and caucuses will take place on a single day. Since airwaves are not blocked by state lines, let candidates spend money in whatever markets they wish when they wish, but all voting gets done on one day. Period.

No winnowing. No going with whomever has momentum. Just a pure choice based upon issues.

A single day.

zomzone - great story that you can relate first hand! ... pretty cool...
it took me a while, but i've come to appreciate listening to schultz...
i listen on XM and his show runs at the same time as thom hartmann on AirAmericaRadio... THAT upset me big time, it happening the same time as losing sam seder to that idiot lionul...

but schultz has always been upfront about his political leanings, past
and present... the more people listen to him, i think they'd find that he represents them more than they thought, or wanted to admit...

i gave that one several links - aka homework - that spelled it all out and made it obvious that i knew all about ed's story...

Are some of perhaps making the same mistake with Herr Schumer that has been made with the Bubble Boy -- that is, framing his actions as negligent rather than willful? After all, negligent homicide typically results in a much milder sentence than premeditated murder.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt provided us with a blueprint many years ago to use as a template for understanding such situations when he stated...

Is MSM picking our candidate? Why didn't Edwards wait until after Feb. 5th?
From what I have heard, Edwards has been talking to Obama.... maybe a strong ticket will happen.

John Edwards: In His Own Words

Last year ago, around the sixth anniversary of 9/11, a leading presidential candidate held a fundraiser that was billed as a Homeland Security themed event in Washington, D.C. targeted to homeland security lobbyists and contractors for $1000 a plate. These lobbyists, for the price of a ticket, would get a special “treat”—the opportunity to participate in small, hour long breakout sessions with key Democratic lawmakers, many of whom chair important sub committees of homeland security committee. That candidate was Senator Clinton.

Today, Hillary Clinton has taken more money from Washington lobbyists than any candidate from either party – Democratic or Republican.

She has taken more money from the defense industry, more money from Wall Street than any other candidate from either party as well.

We have a duty-- a duty to end this.

I believe you cannot be for change and take money from the lobbyists who prevent change. You cannot take on the entrenched interests in Washington if you choose to defend the broken system. It will not work.

I have learned there are much more important things in life than winning elections at the cost of selling your soul.

It's time to tell the truth. And the truth is the system in Washington is corrupt. It is rigged by the powerful special interests to benefit they very few at the expense of the many.

And as a result, the American people have lost faith in our broken system in Washington, and believe it no longer works for ordinary Americans. They're right.

If protecting the current established structure in Washington is in your interest, then I am not your candidate.

This corruption did not begin yesterday-- and it did not even begin with George Bush-- it has been building for decades-- until it now threatens literally the life of our democracy.

Down one path, we trade corporate Democrats for corporate Republicans; our cronies for their cronies; one political dynasty for another dynasty; and all we are left with is a Democratic version of the Republican corruption machine.

And Americans are kept in the dark because the corporate lobbyists have pushed back country of origin labeling laws again and again.

Senator Clinton's road to the middle class takes a major detour right through the deep canyon of corporate lobbyists and the hidden bidding of K Street in Washington-- and history tells us that when that bus stops there it is the middle class that loses.

We can liberate our government from the shackles of corporate money that bind it to corporate will, and restore the voices of our people to its halls.

It is incredible what America has accomplished. Because no matter what extraordinary challenges we have been faced with, we did exactly what America has always done in our history-- we rose to the challenge.

Ed Schultz said that he supported Ronald Reagan. Didn’t you know that Ed Schultz is a Republican? -delafield

ENOUGH!

delafield, I don't know who you are, but I do know Ed Shultz. I went to college with him. He was the quarterback on our football team.

You are full of crap here. Up to your eyeballs.

Ed was a Rightie at one time in his life. That's why we didn't hit it off in school. He had an epiphany when he met his wife, Wendy. She's a Psych Nurse, who took him to a homeless shelter for bologna sandwiches to show him the 'other side'. He had an awakening.

Get your facts straight, please. You sound an awful lot like one of those insipid 'Concern Trolls' who lurk just to spiel contrary comments and redirect threads.

Ed was a big supporter of Hillary until she showed her corporate allegiances. He turned on her about the same time I did.

I'm proud Ed found his true calling. Quit making shit up & hoping it will stick...you're not dealing with Republics here.

Ed was a Rightie at one time in his life. That’s why we didn’t hit it off in school. He had an epiphany when he met his wife, Wendy. She’s a Psych Nurse, who took him to a homeless shelter for bologna sandwiches to show him the ‘other side’. He had an awakening.

Get your facts straight, please. You sound an awful lot like one of those insipid ‘Concern Trolls’ who lurk just to spiel contrary comments and redirect threads.

Ed was a big supporter of Hillary until she showed her corporate allegiances. He turned on her about the same time I did.

I’m proud Ed found his true calling. Quit making shit up & hoping it will stick…you’re not dealing with Republics here.

I thought Randi “Never met a buffet she didn’t like” Rhodes holds that honor.

Randi's radio show will be on in a few minutes. Why don't you give her a call. I love to hear her eat your lunch.

Ed is a recovering Republican. One day at a time.

Couldn’t they find an actual Liberal/Progressive/Democrat to host a radio show for people who oppose Rightwing/Neoconservative/Republican policies?

There must be at least one person on this planet who qualifies. Wouldn’t you think?

What, you never heard of Randi Rhodes, Sam Seder, Thom Hartman, Al Frankin, Rachael Maddow, Mike Papantonio, Stephani Miller, Bill Press?

DRxJ,

Yes, I agree with you. It was obvious once Edwards did not win Iowa that he was not going to win anywhere and certainly had zero chance to win the nomination. That is why I was so surprised when I saw theseEdwards fanatics begin lambasting me for making that analysis. They foolishly believed Edwards had a shot after his disastrous showing in Iowa.

As for the trade, I am ecstatic! Johan Santana is a Met!!!!! (Of course, I have the natural caution of a Mets fan who has seen many great, "sure-fire" players collapse once they put on a Mets uniform -- Carlos Baerga and Roberto Alomar anyone???)

Dick Morris: Edwards voters don’t like the ‘black’ or the ‘female’
By: John Amato @ 9:01 AM - PST

Comment by katy — January 30, 2008 @ 2:06 pm

Also from the Amato post:

"John Edwards has done a good job of articulating his populist positions and had attracted a large number of voters, (not enough to stay in the race) none of whom made their choice because a “woman” or a “black” is in the field."

Of course, the truth lies between the left and right points of view. Edwards obviously has a large constituency that supports him for his positions. It is not true that "none" of his supporters made their choice because they didn't want to vote for a black person or a woman. There are still a fair number of staunch Democrats, mostly older and/or lower income people, who have such reservations. ;)

I'm sorry, katy. I'll try to find some links for you about Ed Schultz's true colors. I'll get back to you later. Ed Schultz should be more honest about his "not to distant" political past.

I'm in for Obama. I'd like to see Richardson as VP and go ahead and let Edwards take AG.

Couldn't they find an actual Liberal/Progressive/Democrat to host a radio show for people who oppose Rightwing/Neoconservative/Republican policies?

There must be at least one person on this planet who qualifies. Wouldn't you think?
