Schumer to Mukasey: I’m ‘disappointed’:»

In November, Sens. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and Charles Schumer (D-NY) voted to confirm Attorney General Mike Mukasey, assuring him of passage in the Senate Judiciary Committee. But today, after Mukasey’s hedging on waterboarding, Schumer said he was “disappointed” in the attorney general’s responses:

I thought there was a hope, not large, that you just might rise to the occasion. So I’m not surprised with your testimony, but I remain disappointed.

Watch it:

UPDATE: Later in the questioning, Mukasey refused to support the outlawing of waterboarding.

  1. Buckie Boy Says:

You’re disappointed? Hell, you should be disgusted, you should be outraged, you should IMPEACH Bush/Cheney and send them to trial for their war crimes.

    Buck Fush

  2. Uncle Ho Says:

Schumer, YOU voted FOR him. Kinda late to complain about it now, you asswipe!

  3. VerbalKint Says:

#2 You took the words out of my disgusted mouth.

  4. Doofus Says:

Wow, the guy green-lights torture, and Schumer is “disappointed”. What a f’in disgrace. Thanks, jerk.

  5. Witch1 Says:

    I’m with Uncle Ho……Blessings

  6. zuch Says:

I’m not disappointed. I’m outraged. WTF did Schumer think was gonna happen?!?!?

    Cheers,

  7. Wayne A. Schneider Says:

TP - editorial suggestion. I believe Sen Schumer said “…but I do remain disapponited.” You can change it and delete this comment. Thanks.

  8. oldtree Says:

What did he promise Chuck in private? I would imagine shame would cause Schumer to retire. But ego is a powerful thing when it comes before the basic senses.
We sure have a majority of this type of representative. Patronly and all knowing. Sorry to have figured out that you are a liar, a poor judge of character, a knowing accomplice to torture and the corruption of the justice department.

Why would any thinking representative of the people approve of an AG for a president they know to be a criminal? A special prosecutor looking into the crimes committed by the AG and DOJ would have been more appropriate. Alas, it was only what we the people wanted at the time. You did not hear us.

Please, retire and let someone that believes in democracy replace you. Your actions are a disgrace to this country. You have enabled crimes against humanity for 7 years and continue to do so today. Is that not enough to consider your responsibility as broken, foregone, ignored, sold to the highest bidder perhaps?

Our shame folks, treason is commonplace now.

  9. Wayne A. Schneider Says:

And I , too, remain disappointed in my senior Senator Chuck “Facetime” Schumer. I thought there was hope, not large, that he might stand up to this president and help enforce the rule of law. So I’m not surprised by his capitulation, but I do remain disappointed.

  10. ebbAndflow Says:

Had Schumer and Feinstein listened to their constituents and not voted for this man - they certainly wouldn’t be ‘disappointed’ at this point.

  11. S.D. Says:

I politely wrote Sen. Schumer that I think his nomination was a bad idea.

IMO, Sen. Schumer got exactly what he voted for.

  12. Doc Rock Says:

I was very disappointed in Schumer and Feinstein when they voted in committee FOR BEING FOOLS!

  13. ralph the wonder llama Says:

    So Schumer is “disappointed”, huh?

Well, he can hardly be faulted. No one could have predicted that a Bush Attorney General nominee would be less than forthcoming in testimony to the Senate.

After all, he was so eager to disclose in his nomination hearings, right?

  14. rastaman Says:

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA….SCHUMER YOU IDIOT!!!

    YOU”RE GETTING WHAT YOU WANTED

  15. Badmoodman Says:

I’d just LOVE to play high stakes poker with Schumer and Feinstein, although I might get a bit overwhelmed with all their “tells.”

  16. Anjuna Laguna Says:

all these democrats covering for Bush make them complicit

Bush should have been in jail years ago

NO DOUBT MORE COVERING OF BUSHES TRACKS ARE TO COME FROM THE DEMORATS

  17. kindness Says:

Damn, what is it? Do these Democrats carry Astro-glide in their back pockets or something? Have they not seen that they’ve gotten punked every step of the bush43 reign?

Dumb asses. Why do I even continue to vote Democratic?

Cauz at least they aren’t full blown Nazis like the reichtwingnutz.

  18. SP Biloxi Says:

    Schumer to Mukasey: I’m ‘disappointed’

Is this where the blogger can give Schumer a good swift kick in the butt with a boot with spurs for voting for this knucklehead AG? Too little too late for Chuck.

Memo to Chuck and Diane (Feinstein): You voted for Mukasey! Now your votes are coming back to bite you two!

  19. Badmoodman Says:

Tell me Schumer isn’t the posterboy for all the limp-wristed, meely-mouthed, scared-of-their-own-shadows Democrats in Congress?

  20. Oval12345678 aka James K. Sayre Says:

Bush gangster regime traitors to democracy and human rights are enabled by worthless corporate whores like Schumer. Way to go, Chuck…

  21. curmudgeon Says:

Re: Comment #11 — If Schumer was the only person who would suffer the consequences of his horrific decision to support Mukasey, perhaps there might be some justice to be had. Unfortunately, the consequences for Schumer are likely to be nil (in fact, he may have some hidden perks coming his way), while those for the other 300,000,000 citizens of this country are nothing short of distastrous.

Could someone please pass the airsickness bag.

Herr Schumer has provided us with yet another example of “Praising with faint damnation.”

  22. RUCerious Says:

So Schummy, why don’t you put it like this, either Mucky resigns, or you do…?

  23. Toss these losers Says:

Saying he’s not surprised pretty much sums it, don’t it?

Gonna take a little more than grandstanding after the fact to fix this mess, Chuck.

  24. hellinabucket Says:

The democrats are paper tigers. Why would anyone be concerned over Schumer’s dissappointment? Pitiful.

  25. Badmoodman Says:

Schumer, the Rufus T. Firefly of the Congress. Upstart!!

  26. scytherius Says:

    You’re not disappointed . . . you’re stupid as hell.

  27. Wayne Says:

    So, you are disappointed Schumer…..
WTF are you going to do about it?
    Write a letter?
Rollover likea good lapdog and ask Bush for another tummy rub?

I’m not surprised with your lack of spine, Schumer, but I remain disappointed.

Some scientist needs to figure how to clone new spines for these jellyfish we have in Congress.

  28. RUCerious Says:

I just checked and Herr Schumer is up for re-election this Nov.

New Yorkers, you know what to do… in the Primary!

  29. NoMoreBush Says:

Oh, yes, Schumer playing for his constituency — uh, the good folks of New York are too smart to fall for it — THEY KNOW YOU CUT THE DEAL WITH FEINSTEIN THAT PERMITTED THE CONFIRMATION OF THIS GUY. You voted for him knowing then what you know now. IDIOT.

  30. Uncle Ho Says:

comment by Badmoodman @ 4:15 pm

OK, I won’t tell you that Schumer isn’t the posterboy for all the iimp-wristed, mealy-mouthed, scared-of-their-own-shadows Democrats in Congress.

  31. Tired of being lied to Says:

Come now, Senators - you can’t really be surprised or disappointed at Mukasey’s response today, can you? You had him by the short hairs at the confirmation hearings, and could have done something with him and his slick answers, but you all blinked and lost your grip.

In a weak (stupid) and over trusting moment, you said “Yes” to his confirmation when you should have said, “HELL NO!”

I hope you have now learned your lesson that this administration and all the appointees in it CANNOT BE TRUSTED WITH ANYTHING OR ANY RESPONSE THEY GIVE.

Hell, I’ve learned it, why can’t you? Act your age and your part.

  32. Uncle Ho Says:

As Schmer is up for re-election this year, any New Yorker who votes for him should have the fleas of a 1000 camels infest their pubic places.

  33. ForTruth Says:

Shumer we’ve been very disappointed in your spineless ways. We are very disappointed that all you can say is you are disappointed. We are disappointed at Congress for sending lots of letters, and no “git er done”.

  34. singe_101 Says:

Schumer would meet some mafiosos in the desert, then trade his one loaded gun for a briefcase of money.

“You’re gonna shoot me? I’m… disappointed.”

Or the Bart Simpson story about Indians and corn if you prefer.

  35. spencers mom Says:

Geez, “I’m disappointed” is what I tell my 7-year-old when he’s misbehaved in 2nd grade! This is your response to “ends justify the means” torture???

Next thing you know, Sen. Shumer will be sending a strongly worded letter. Now that’ll show ‘em!

    Disappointed? You suck!

    PEACE

  36. Leporello Says:

Yes, and as Captain Renault said in Cassablanca, “I’m shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here!” In Chuck’s case, he got what he paid for.
Impeach Cheney and Bush, and Save the constitution.

  37. araratararat Says:

Schumer is up for re-election so he must play to his constituents to insure re-election.

He is disappointed in Mukasey - now that’s said/done.

Shalom, and have a good Shabbos, see you at the Shul.

If Muckie was a goy - Schumer and Feinstein would never had voted for this Gonzo replacement - but the Zionist/ AIPAC told Chuckie and Dianne how to vote. With this guy Muckie and Chertoff in place the facts of Israeli involvement in 9/11 will never see the light of day.

Another Mossad false flag attack gets blamed on the Arabs.

  38. gumby Says:

Chuck, you can kiss my lily white……………………………………

  39. gallery Says:

Wow Chuck, nice self serving laundry list to back up your tragic decision to appoint this carbon copy of Abu Gonzales.
    Heck of a job dumbass.
I hope there is a full blown backlash against your re-election from the progressive net-roots.

  40. Cats r Flyfishn Says:

Frankly, I’m disappointed to that Congress hasn’t started impeachment hearings, that the Senate has given Bush everything he wants.

What do fainting goats and this Congress have in common? They both fall over and freeze when nervous or frightened.

  41. Cats r Flyfishn Says:

Sorry, I should have typed “too” instead of “to”.

Here’s a website of some interest:
    http://www.hammeringtheissues.org/

  42. Namtillaku Says:

With very few exceptions, Democrats only need look in the mirror to find disappointment.

  43. NoOneYouKnow Says:

The adjective I always put with Chuck Schumer is “oily.” He’s a weasel, and he sold his moral compass for peanuts decades ago. Unfortunately, NY’s Dem party being completely corrupt, the chances of ousting Oily Chuck in the primary are slim. But it’s sure worth a shot.

  44. TomR Says:

    —-
So I’m not surprised with your testimony, but I remain disappointed.
    —-

…he said with a smirk on his face. We are sincerely disappointed in you Chuck, as you’ll discover at your next primary election.

    - Tom

  45. judyinnm Says:

    Suckerrrrr!

  46. theswan Says:

And Shumer works on “Hope” when he confirms a fellow New Yorker neocon. What a tool. Of whom, remains to be questioned. Likely, the republicans.
    Poodle.

  47. prabhata Says:

I’m underwhelmed at Schumer’s disappointment. Mukasey has not changed his evasive nature. Who would’ve thunk it. I understand waterboarding makes the victim say what the interrogator wants to hear. Maybe it should be tried on Mukasey.

  48. tomazulob Says:

Either Chuck and Di are stupid (since we all saw this coming, except them?) or were bought out. Gee, I wonder which one it is. Hmmmmm.

  49. TexasVietVet Says:

Chuck, either you are as dumb as we thought, or maybe just maybe, you might be one of them.

    Another conservanazi stooge.

If you would have called me during confirmation hearings for this clown, I could have told you what his answer would be. Mukasey is to serve bu$h, not be the Attorney for the People of the US. That only happens when you have a government of the people who believes in the rule of law.

Under the bu$hnazis, that idea was getting old so they threw that out.

Torture? Waterboarding is torture? Makasey would know if you did it to him. But then again, he’s another conservanazi stooge, there to serve bu$h.

WE GOT THE BEST DEMOCRACY MONEY CAN BUY.

BUCK FUSH AND DUCK FICK cheney, too. ; )

  50. radhika Says:

First, he sells out the people and the Constitution by voting for a fluffer who virtually everyone in America KNEW would give legal cover to the Administration. Next, he plays the confused and apologetic card, confident that the Sheeple will quickly move on to some new diversion. And the DLC corporate dollars continue to flow his way……

Di-Fi does much the same, varying only by posturing as a vaguely addled granma who just can’t believe ‘that nice man would hurt our country’. And the defense contracting dollars continue to flow her husband’s way….Politics is quite simple if you reduce it to greed.

  51. nycbassist Says:

Your disappointment would seem a lot more sincere if you didn’t have a smile on your face when you’re addressing him. I called up your office the day you approved him, and left an email saying what a mistake this was, and how shameful you are in having approved him in the first place. Why are you disappointed? You got exactly what you asked for.

  52. Max-1 Says:

    .

And America is disappointed in Schumer and Feinstein.

    .

  53. The Young Dude Says:

This is what American politics has regressed into: You get two choices between bad and worse. In this instance Mukasey being bad and Gonzalez being worse. Can’t wait until the November elections come round.

    Dennis, please come back!!!!

  54. chimpeach Says:

I, along with probably thousands of other Americans, told you so. Mukasey is as bad a choice as we said.

Nice going, Chuck. Isn’t it about time you abandoned that strategy of folding like a cheap lawn chair? It doesn’t seem to be panning out.

  55. tnrc75 Says:

Crocodile tears you pious, sanctimonious ass. You rolled over, along with our dreadful Sen. Feinstein and backed him. You made your bed, now sleep in it.

  56. woodguy Says:

“Ti-s a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifyin nothing.”
    __Macbeth

  57. woodguy Says:

That would be tis and signifying. I’m so totally pissed I can hardly type.

  58. Bluestocking Says:

Chuck is a chucklehead — and I’m saying this as one of his constituents. Why is he disappointed? He should have seen this coming. He’s acting exactly like the woman who catches her fiance in bed with another woman and decides to marry him anyway because she believes that he’ll change once they’re married — only to find out that what he was doing before the wedding, he’s still doing after the wedding (sometimes even more so). In short, Schumer has only himself to blame for his own disappointment.

  59. jimijazz Says:

You see, Schumer, you were WRONG and all the bloggers that opposed Mukasey’s nomination were RIGHT. Perhaps you and Feinstein will stop thinking of yourselves as dealmakers or king makers andf start listening to the populace for a change. But again, too late. The people definitely have more wisdom than inside the beltway.
