Earlier this month, Fox News host Bill O’Reilly claimed that there aren’t “many” homeless veterans, challenging John Edwards for saying that there are 200,000 such vets. The Huffington Post reports that in response, homeless veterans are planning to protest O’Reilly today:
Now, a group from Fitzgerald House, an “organization representing homeless veterans,” plans to bring their fight for recognition to Fox’s doorstep. They plan on visiting the Fox News Channel Studios today at 3:00 pm, and will come carrying a petition signed by 17,000 people demanding an apology from O’Reilly for his ignorance and abuse. In a press release, Brave New Films and Fitzgerald House say thay “have found that it is very easy to locate homeless veterans and are willing to help O’Reilly find them if his desire to help homeless vets is sincere.”
Brave New Films took up O’Reilly’s “challenge” and spoke to some of these homeless vet here.
Continue to speak truth to ignorance.
Wash. Rinse. Repeat.
January 31st, 2008 at 12:42 pmWell, Bill O’Reilly will just say he never said there were no homeless vets. He’s don’t such things in the past, you know.
January 31st, 2008 at 12:43 pmYup. As a wise man (or woman – I don’t honestly know who it was) once said, you can’t wash garbage.
January 31st, 2008 at 12:45 pmI can’t wait to see his liver-spotted jowls quivering with rage as he denounces the left wing conspiracy to make him look bad. He did nothing to deserve this treatment, he is your culture-war martyr.
January 31st, 2008 at 12:47 pmWhy does O’Lielly hate our homeless Veterans?
January 31st, 2008 at 12:48 pmThis is only happening because John Edwards had the stones to try and add substance to an otherwise meaningless fluff debate question.
I’m still mad that he dropped out.
January 31st, 2008 at 12:48 pmO’Reilly will just say — “yeah, but were they found UNDER BRIDGES???”
January 31st, 2008 at 12:50 pm“They plan on visiting the Fox News Channel Studios today’
That. Is. Awesome.
January 31st, 2008 at 12:58 pmHomeless vets to protest O’Reilly.
good. If O’Reilly knows what is right, he will set aside his ego, apologize, and will attempt to help these fellow Americans.
January 31st, 2008 at 1:00 pmO’Reilly will issues the following ‘apology.’
“I’m sorry if anyone was offended by my statement that there aren’t that many homeless vets. It’s not my fault that the facts state the opposite that 200,000 vets are currently homeless and some people were offended by it. I don’t have to actually aplogize for being wrong because I work at Fox. All I have to do is tell anyone who might have been right while I was wrong, that I’m sorry they were so upset at my wrongness. Now, I have to go. John Gibson and I have some candy we need to steal from a baby.”
January 31st, 2008 at 1:02 pmThis is great….I hope they chase and hound him when he arrives/leaves the studios just like the Ron Paul supporters did to Brit Hume. In fact I would love to see a coordinated schedule where he sees them at work, home, and anywhere else this slimeball goes.
January 31st, 2008 at 1:02 pmMaybe now John Edwards will apologize to O’Reilly. Huh?
January 31st, 2008 at 1:05 pmO’Lielly should be homeless for a month and see what it is like.
Would it make him have some sort of understanding these Vets plight?
Probably not, that propaganda term “compassionate conservative” is new speak for “I got mine, too bad for you.”
Up yours O’Lielly, hope those 17K vets riot and string you up.

Correction: Why does O’Leilly hate veterans? (homeless or not)
fixed it for you.
January 31st, 2008 at 1:07 pmit is very easy to locate homeless veterans and [we] are willing to help O’Reilly find them if his desire to help homeless vets is sincere
You know what they say about if – the most powerful word in the English language.
Anyhoo, anyone else expect O’Cowardly to pretend these guys don’t exist?
January 31st, 2008 at 1:08 pmThis is great….I hope they chase and hound him when he arrives/leaves the studios just like the Ron Paul supporters did to Brit Hume. In fact I would love to see a coordinated schedule where he sees them at work, home, and anywhere else this slimeball goes.

Wasn’t that Sean Hannity that Paul’s supporters confronted? Either way, O’Lielly deserves much more, a Code Red maybe?
January 31st, 2008 at 1:10 pmNo, this is simply not enough. These scum live in a different world without any knowledge or appreciation of how most people live let alone how those who are homeless or disadvantaged suffer. He must be hounded from the network. He must be followed every moment of every day by those protesting him. His home (more likely condo) must be found and protestors stationed outside to embarass him every time that he enters or leave. There needs to be a presence in front of his studios until he is removed. Treat him the way pro-lifers treat an abortion doctor. Here it is justified.
January 31st, 2008 at 1:35 pmLots of luck to thes guys, but let’s face it, in the world of O’Reilly, where he’s never wrong, it’s an exercise in futility. First of all, O’Reilly will claim that the protestors haven’t proved his point – a petition by “only” 17,000 people? That’s not the same as a petition by 200,000 homless vets – sleeping under bridges, mind you – and even if 2000,000 homeless vets protested in front of FNC’s headquarters with some kind of proof that they do, indeed, sleep under bridges sometimes, O’Reilly will claim SOME of them MUST be faking it, and then go for the delusion of grandeur hat trick: How much must my enemies really really hate me, be so obsessed with me, that they’d try to arrange a protest like this with phony homeless veterans and a measly 17,000-names petition? It proves I’m getting to them*! We’ve got them* on the run, and we’re not apologizing to anybody except to say, if you are a veteran, and FOR SOME REASON, happen to be homeless, we thank you for your service, go to our website and we’ve got some locations where you people can get help.**
* “them” is an enemy to be determined at a later date
January 31st, 2008 at 1:37 pm** – the irony that most homeless vets probably don’t have much internet access will be lost on O’Cruelty.
17 nothing changes by blogging…..we must act. We must go to the streets…..it has always worked before and no amout of talking will change anything.
January 31st, 2008 at 1:40 pmWhile the Vets are lambasting O’Lielly, maybe they could put up a few posters, asking Hannity were all the money goes that he collects from his “Wounded Veterans Concerts, over the last 4-5 years?”
January 31st, 2008 at 1:49 pmIn 2006, the last year reportable for “Freedom Alliance” on their 2006 Federal Tax Form 990, they (along with Hannity’s “Wounded Veterans Concert” monies) reported collecting $9.6 million in cash donations, for the Wounded Vets and their families! They only spent $397,900 in 2006 on the Wounded Veterans and their families, or about 4.14 cents on the dollar!
Come-on Sean! open your books lets see what you brought in, and what you paid out!
Good for them. While they’re at it, they ought to kick Billo’s ignorant, bigoted ass all the way into next year.
Wish I could be there. I’d be glad to help.
January 31st, 2008 at 1:52 pmdo you guys know where the washinton mall is. Have you been there. Do you know your way around?

January 31st, 2008 at 2:01 pmDid someone just crank up a banjo? Looks like the month of being 86ed from TP is up, I bet Billy doesn’t last a week.

Zen Koan of the Day…
When HillyBilly keels over dead drunk in his doublewide during the middle of the day and no one is there to hear it, does he make any sound when he hits the floor?
And who will wash the obvious stains out of the carpets afterwards?
January 31st, 2008 at 2:08 pmBilly is a souless coward. Remember billy, when you’re being humiliated here for your sociopathic posts, liberals are here to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable.

“Deliverance”?
January 31st, 2008 at 2:13 pmI’m afraid they will ALL get tasered (some will die, of course) and hauled off to jail, where at least they will get a hot and a cot, paradoxically enough.
January 31st, 2008 at 2:44 pmIt’s sorta strange how Hill Billy and the repukes don’t understand humor and it’s uses or the delivery of said humor.
He is just so ignorant that it is amazing that he can remember to wipe their a$$ after posting a pile of crap like Hill Billy did.
You’re still stupid and vile today as yesterday, scum.

January 31st, 2008 at 2:56 pmWe’ve seen temps from -20 to -27F here this week in MN. Homeless shelters are overflowing. We had one poor soul die on the Bishop’s front door step, trying to get into a church for refuge.
Exposed flesh freezes in less than 3 minutes in these conditions.
Where are the compassionate conservatrons? Sipping cocktails in front of their flat screens, of course.
Faith based alliances are getting more money than ever from the Bushaholics, but, like Hannity’s ‘fund’, the money never gets to the resources willing to help the homeless.
Conservatrons, your God is watching…and he’s pissed.

January 31st, 2008 at 7:40 pmWOW WHAT A PROTEST!!!
Six veterans show up to organized protest at FNC…
The Huffington Post’s Jason Linkins blogs about a Robert Greenwald backed protest of veterans regarding Bill O’Reilly and the back and forth over John Edwards’ remarks on homeless veterans…
Now, a group from Fitzgerald House, an “organization representing homeless veterans,†plans to bring their fight for recognition to Fox’s doorstep. They plan on visiting the Fox News Channel Studios today at 3:00 pm, and will come carrying a petition signed by 17,000 people demanding an apology from O’Reilly for his ignorance and abuse. In a press release, Brave New Films and Fitzgerald House say thay “have found that it is very easy to locate homeless veterans and are willing to help O’Reilly find them if his desire to help homeless vets is sincere.â€
ICN hears that at approximately 3:15pm this afternoon – six veterans arrived, with two cameramen from Brave New Films in tow.
ICN has learned that O’Reilly Factor producers met, and spoke to the handful of veterans outside the News Corp building, took the petition they had prepared – and everyone quietly went their separate ways (including a camera crew from NBC, who promptly packed up their gear and left when the ‘protest’ never actually materialized).
Besides Greenwald’s hand held cameras, NBC was the only crew to show up to cover this.
January 31st, 2008 at 8:09 pmWhy is that traitor, Ed Schultz, playing footsie with Bill O’Rielly on FOX News?
I will never trust a Ronald Reagan Republican like Ed Schultz. Never!
February 1st, 2008 at 1:31 amWhich branch of service did O’Reilly serve in? ChickenHawk you say? Thought so.
