Perino repeats her ‘do-nothing Congress’ canard.

President Bush recently issued a signing statement disregarding parts of the 2008 National Defense Authorization Act. Finally reporting on Bush’s move today, the Los Angeles Times notes that Bush issued signing statements less often in 2007. White House Press Secretary Dana Perino claims it is because “2007 was the do-nothing Congress.” As ThinkProgress has noted, Perino’s “do-nothing” charge is baseless. The 2007 Congress had 11 more bills signed by the President than did the 2006 Congress.

Why the hell is the White House spokesperson lobbing insults from the podium? This twit works for us, damnit. I get so sick of the total lack of decorum of the people running this administration.

  2. Jeremy in Denver says:

What do you expect, fletc3her? This IS the BUSH admin. We’ll be stuck with them for another year…

  3. VerbalKint says:

Baseless charges are what this criminal regime is all about.

    There. Now it reads correctly.

  5. Wayne A. Schneider says:

These people are easier to understand once you realize that they know nothing about what the purpose of government is supposed to be. These people believe that government should be destroyed as far as regulation and oversight are concerned. They wrong-headedly believe that financial success equates to moral correctness, and one way they help corporations accumulate as much wealth as possible is to remove as much government oversight and regulation as possible. To do that, they must mislead and misdirect the public from the truth of what they are doing. Hence, the lies. To them, this is how it should be done. This is why they should be removed from office at once. We should not put up with this for another year.

  8. OxyCon says:

Dana is really slamming her own Repub Party and she’s too dumb to realize it. Must be the Peroxide.

  9. bilbobaggins says:

Perino is a do-nothing Press Secretary. I really don’t understand how the White House reporters can stand to go there every day and listen to Barbie Perino’s lies. She’s even worse at it than Tony Snowjob.

  10. Xisithrus says:

Ms Perino, stop acting like a partisan political hack and start addressing issues from a neutral standpoint.

  11. Xisithrus says:

Leave your Bushy groupy outfit and backstage pass AT HOME!

  12. natisman says:

You all have to remember it’s a lot easier for some one like Ms. Perino to repeat something than get into something new.

How many times did you hear BS from George, many times over. it’s a good way of getting your base together, all 15%

  13. RobertElland says:

    Methinks you’re missing the point.
Perino can make all these claims because not a single person in the White House press corps is willing to call her on it.
In public, in front of the cameras.
Until they do that, what she says is golden.
    Sorry, that’s the problem.
Until she’s called on her words, she will just keep singing the same song over and over again.

Yeah, good luck with that, X.

  15. katy says:

why would he need signing statements
    if it actually WERE a do-nothing congress…

    that made no sense… oh… yea…

What a cool strategy for fostering cooperation between our duly elected leaders, and getting the nation’s work done: cheap shot name-calling! Bravo!

  17. ralph the wonder llama says:

Maybe by “Do-Nothing Congress”, the Lying Sack of Cute® means they did nothing that the administration wanted.

No, that can’t be it… they funded the president’s war. they let Rove and Harriet Miers skip on the subpoenas, they turned a blind eye to signing statements, warrantless wiretapping, Abu G perjuring himself…

Oo oo! I got it! Dana is made because the Congress DIDN’T get us out of Iraq, and kept Bush from taking credit for it! Maybe?

  18. Buckie Boy says:

As opposed to the “Do Something Criminal” Administration?

Hey, maybe she will get pregnant from one of the members and have to quit..

  20. ralph the wonder llama says:

What would it take to get a member of the White House Press Corps to actually challenge this crap? I mean, can’t someone point out to her face that the 2007 Congress sent more bills to be signed than the 2006 Congress?

Right from the Straussian, Nietschze, Schmitt playbook.

BTW since when did these cats become Chrsitian reading material?

There are reporters there who would ask questions like that (Helen Thomas comes to mind). Unfortunately they are rarely called upon and when they are, it’s when there is no opportunity to ask a potentially embarrassing question.

I think the presscorps has just about given up and ask just enough questions to appear to be doing their jobs and scarfing down some freebie snacks until the current admin is replaced. I bet they all have countdown clocks in their laptops.

  24. Frosty Cupcake says:

Republican obstructionism = do nothing Congress

    That’s the truth of it.

And Wayne, your post is a gem, especially: “one way they help corporations accumulate as much wealth as possible is to remove as much government oversight and regulation as possible. To do that, they must mislead and misdirect the public from the truth of what they are doing”

  25. Frosty Cupcake says:

I agree with Xisithrus and will go one step further:

The Washington press corps is so afraid of losing their precious “access” that they deliberately don’t pursue the truth. Which makes having “access” meaningless.

But it does make America think that there is real journalism going on.

  26. Evergreen2U says:

This whole administration does not work for US. It works for THEM….corporate rule for corporate profits…the wealthiest of the wealthy.

It has taken from the poor to give to the rich.

The Bush regime was built on deception, arrogance, incompetence and spin. We’ve dealt with it for 7 years. Why, on God’s green earth should we expect anything other than that now?
