Boortz blames Katrina on ‘parasites’ in ‘New Orleans.’

On his nationally syndicated radio show this week, right-wing talker Neal Boortz attacked victims of Hurricane Katrina, saying that “the disaster that followed” was not “George Bush’s fault” because, in Boortz’ mind, “the primary blame goes on the worthless parasites who lived in New Orleans who you — couldn’t even wipe themselves, let alone get out of the way of the water when that levee broke.” Earlier in the same show, Boortz claimed that “when these Katrina so-called refugees were scattered about the country, it was just a glorified episode of putting out the garbage.”

  6. Jackie says:

I’ll send that report to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan just to let them know what the US thinks of them putting their lives on the line for the United States of America. Many soldiers lived in the Katrina Storm areas. Good to see what it means for those who put their lives on the line for all American people.

It is interesting to hear how people really feel about their fellow American. I will say if minorities don’t pay their fair share of taxes it’s unAmerican. Will the GOP
    ask for the trash vote?

Typical tactic of the neofascists, blame the victim.

Next he’ll be saying it is the fault of the 1 million Iraqis killed due to the war because they lived there. They didn’t have the sense to get out of the way of horrific violence.

  11. tarazan says:

This man is simply an ignorant and arrogant racist..and his party and whom he works for should be ashamed of associating themselves with him..
I’m surprised that this guy is even still on the air.

If he is defending Bush, using the victims of Katrina..then he is a sick racist.
He needs to wipe his dirty mouth after blaming victims who were left struggling to fight for life in summer’s heat and almost drowning waiving for help on top of their house roofs, until finally they got help, and large number they did not make it to safety.
Is heartless what is meant by Right Wing these days ?!!

  12. ebbAndflow says:

What a delusion of grandeur – truly hope this sad excuse for a human being never, ever has to fall on hard times. Blaming those who had no way of evacuating for not ‘getting out of the way’ of water. Broken levees don’t give you much warning.
To have no empathy is a very sad, sorry way of living – I don’t know who this Boortz is but his remarks are most telling.

  16. Chris L says:

I always hear people talking about how those in Katrina didn’t leave, so it was their own fault for being in the way of the hurricane. A little history shows why this is such an ignorant premise. During World War II, and again right after the Korean War, Fort Polk (in Leesville, Louisiana) was a major training area. Many soldiers went there to train, many veterans went there to teach, and afterwards, many military personnel retired in that area. However, the area around Fort Polk didn’t offer much in the way of jobs. So these WWII and Korean War veterans made their way further south to areas like New Orleans, Slidell, Kenner, Reserve, and the surrounding area where there was a better economy and lots of fishing. That was more than 50 years ago. Now, in their old age, when they were in their time of need, I guess they thought that the US government might think to help them out. Just a small “thank you” for the time they gave in the service of their country. Although they could once fight with General Rommel in Africa, or under the leadership of General Omar Bradley in Korea, they now are our nation’s elderly. Unable to run, many unable to drive, and unable to get out of the way of the hurricane. With nowhere else to go, and no way to get there, they had only to hope that their government might remember who they once had been. It was rather unfortunate, and ironic, for these retired heroes that their time in need came under the president whose grandfather many remembered.

I don’t even know who Boortz is, but I know I don’t like him. If I ever meet him on the first tee of a golf course, I might try to stick his driver down his throat and make it come out of his ass.

Boortz is going for the “negative attention” that makes ass-wipes like Bill O’ and Hannity propular with a certain group of people. So, should someone flatten his nose from ear to ear he should not be surprised – because that is negative attention at its best and just.

  20. Badmoodman says:

Neal “Mr. Current Topic” Boortz, are you going to blame me for living in an earthquake area too?

  24. JMOHR says:

I think that it is just time for a mob to gather and lynch Boortz. Enough of this civil discourse with evil people. President Bush told us how to deal with evil people, preemptively and with great violence. As it should be with our external enemies, so should it be with those internal enemies such as Boortz.

  28. Saint Augustine says:

Why do I get the feeling that the stragety for the remainder of Bush’s term is to incite the average Joe here in the USA to the point of taking physical action against some as*hole ranting like Boortz? A reason for the administration to invoke martial law perhaps is what they are looking for. Be careful people, we know Big Brother is listening and reading everything we do now.

However, if someone decides to kick the crap out of one of them, I’m sure there’s the “just snapped” defense that was not a planned or conspiritorial event.

  29. kbt says:

  43. Klem Kiddilehopper says:

Here’s the true story on how Boortz lied and decieved the public till he was outed! this is realy what type of person he is!
Go to: johnsugg.com Then click on “ARCHIVES” on the right side of the site.
Click on for the months of Sept and Oct of ‘05
Scroll down thru Sept for the dates of Sept, 26,27,28 and then Oct 11.
Read Suggs articles about Boortz, and then you’ll understand what a lying, draft-dodging,non-college graduate bald headed geek Boortz is!
For many years till he was outed by Sugg and other man, Boortz regularly had lied to his listeners, employers, or anyone that he thought he could impress that he had graduated from Texas A&M in May of ‘67!
He even bought a “Class of ‘67″ ring to show off on May 26,1967 to gold-plate his charade, even though he flunked out, or quit for good June 3, 1967!
He posted a picture of himself and Ga. Gov Maddox sitting together on a plane on his website, (not being smart enough to notice the class ring on his finger) and in the picture what is Neil wearing on his right hand? Could it be a Class of ‘67 Ring?
Embellishing himself around the country by posting in his bios at different radio stations by saying “graduated from A&M in 1967″, which he had to change after being outed to “finished up in ‘67.”
But the grand-daddy of all his lies about himself was that he was 4-F during the Vietnam War because of; (pick one) his eyes or asthma!
When his true deferments came out from the Selective Service, it seems ole Neil had lied to the Selective Service also!
He was in ROTC for 3 semesters at A&M, but dropped out of ROTC and School for a semester but never informing the Sel. Ser. as required by Federal Law. Good ole Neil kept his 1D deferment (for being in the ROTC, which he wasn’t) until 9 months after he had quit or flunked out of college!
Then Neil informed the Sel. Ser. that he had a new daughter and was given a 3A, effectively keeping him out of harms way from Feb of ‘68 on!
Thay’s the type of person Boortz is!

I just heard the comments you made about Hurricane Katrina victims, calling them “garbage” and “parasites”.

These are some of the most vile comments I believe I have ever heard one person say about another. In the context of the tragedy of those horrible days in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, I can’t imagine anything worse one could say.

It is obvious to me, you and your show provides nothing of value to humanity — not even immature bathroom humor like some of the shock jocks. At least, with Howard Stern and his ilk, you can argue taste. With you, there is no taste, no soul, no purpose.

You are a hateful, horrible person and the people who support this filth and encourage it are no better than you.

I think you should be removed from the air. I don’t believe in censorship, but I do believe in boycott.

I shall make sure your sponsors are aware of your outrageous and irresponsible comments. I may not have the influence to end your time on air, but I suspect I will not be the only one working hard to accomplish it.

As someone who moved right out side of New Orleans right before the hurricanes and have stayed here since I can say Ive seen alot more than most. I not only saw what was on the news, but witness the incident first hand.

I went to New Orleans to pick up some people that had gone to New Orleans to help. When we (me and my two friends) arrived, we were stopped at a police baracade. We showed IDs and were granted entrance in. The polices asked if we wanted a police escort to where we were headed. We declined. They then asked if we had any firearms on us. We responded by letting them know we had a shotgun and a couple 9mm pistols in the truck with us. We were then instructed to hold the weapons out of the truck as we drove inside the city.

Its this kind of thing that makes you realize how messed up New Orleans was and still partly is. I dont blame the police or any other official how can you. People in New Orleans had plenty of time to evacuate, its not like the hurricane showed up in one day. The Pople were given an ability to leave they knew it was coming.

I 100% agree with Boortz, have you ever been to Louisiana at. The people down here are completely like any other kind of people i have met. Not all but a good portion of the people down here want a hand out, people that didnt evacuate, people that just want money. Several people have tried to sue the government for millions of your money, and one person even had the greed to ask for 3 quadrillion. What they need is another hurricane to finish the area off so they can start over.

“The most expensive Katrina claims filed so far against the Army Corps of Engineers – those specifying damages of at least $1 billion each – total $3 quadrillion, according to a thumbnail set of figures released Monday by the agency.”

Does anyone remember the ThinkFast thread the other day, when I mentioned I saw the Minutemen had adopted the section of highway adjacent to the border checkpoint on Interstate 5? (from today’s San Diego UT):

SAN DIEGO — The American Civil Liberties Union in San Diego is going to bat for an anti-illegal immigration group as is battles Caltrans over the right to pick up garbage next to a North County immigration checkpoint.

The ACLU said it will side with the San Diego Minutemen in the group’s fight to have the trash-pickup franchise and big green sign along Interstate 5 at the San Onofre immigration inspection station.

A federal lawsuit will be filed Monday, and a spokesman for the Minutemen welcomed the ACLU as a potential legal ally.

“If people are surprised, they shouldn’t be,” said the ACLU’s David Blair-Loy in an interview with the San Diego Union-Tribune. “The ACLU defends the Constitution and the Bill of Rights for everyone.”

Caltrans has told the Minutemen that they will be relocated from the heavily-traveled section of Interstate 5 to a comparatively-obscure section of Route 52 near Santee.

Some Mexican-American groups had decried the assignment, and posting of a large sign thanking the Minutemen, next to the immigration stop.

The ACLU however is listed on the Minutemen’s Web site as as an “open borders agent and enemy.” The ACLU has been on opposite sides of the Minutemen in several legal battles.

Yes, We Can! – Si, Se Puede!

    http://www.yeswecansong.com
    http://www.barackobama.com/
    http://factcheck.barackobama.com/

It was a creed written into the founding documents that declared the destiny of a nation.

    Yes we can.

It was whispered by slaves and abolitionists as they blazed a trail toward freedom.

    Yes we can.

It was sung by immigrants as they struck out from distant shores and pioneers who pushed westward against an unforgiving wilderness.

    Yes we can.

It was the call of workers who organized; women who reached for the ballots; a President who chose the moon as our new frontier; and a King who took us to the mountaintop and pointed the way to the Promised Land.

Yes we can to justice and equality.

Yes we can to opportunity and prosperity.

Yes we can heal this nation.

Yes we can repair this world.

    Yes we can.

We know the battle ahead will be long, but always remember that no matter what obstacles stand in our way, nothing can stand in the way of the power of millions of voices calling for change.

We have been told we cannot do this by a chorus of cynics…they will only grow louder and more dissonant ……….. We’ve been asked to pause for a reality check. We’ve been warned against offering the people of this nation false hope.

But in the unlikely story that is America, there has never been anything false about hope.

Now the hopes of the little girl who goes to a crumbling school in Dillon are the same as the dreams of the boy who learns on the streets of LA; we will remember that there is something happening in America; that we are not as divided as our politics suggests; that we are one people; we are one nation; and together, we will begin the next great chapter in the American story with three words that will ring from coast to coast; from sea to shining sea —

    Yes. We. Can.

They acted responsibly by going to the Superdome, expecting that the Superdome would provide adequate shelter, and that they would be evacuated by bus if necessary. The buses never came. Food and water supplies were inadequate. It was a gross failure of FEMA (don’t try to blame it on a city or state infrastructure, when that infrastructure had been wiped out by the storm).

Nuts? Really? This is a country where Ted Kennedy, perhaps the most widely recognized Senator in the country, was denied air travel for two weeks because his name was placed on the no fly list. Is that not harassment? This is a country the government of which is listening to everyone’s phone calls (and no, this charge is not in dispute).

It is truly amazing that anyone could come to this thread and defend Boortz, yet two freaks did just that. In fact, both freaks actually amplified on Boortz’s sick hatred. They no know shame. And a third troll showed up to mock others for their concern.

I have news for you freaks: your antics are driving people away from your own party. My father, a lifetime diehard Republican who to this day defends Richard Nixon, has left the party in disgust, and it has everything to do with the rightwing hateful freaks who populate the party. I was amazed when he spat out in disgust his sickness over “people who call themselves Republican and act like that.”

Good job, freaks. Way to go. Auto-self-destruct.

As for Boortz, I think the fact that he answered emails sent to him on this topic with childish, snide remarks indicates that our emails have gotten under his skin. If you’re interested Post #43 has a little background on Boortz and his George Bush like-ways, as a Student, Certified Draft-Dodging Chicken-hawk and “LIAR!”
If this guy isn’t talking about his airplane, his condo, how much money he makes, who he broke bread with 25 years ago, his “Cut and Paste” books, or lying about some inane subject etc, you can be sure that he’s patting himself on the back with his Guinness Book of Records for having the, “Longest Human Arm on Record!”

  169. fuzzwald says:

Hey, I saw a Mastercard commercial the other day that showed people dancing in the streets in Nawlins. The Superdome was all fixed up, and the Bourbon street was all neat & tidy, and the Saints were Marchin’ IN!!!. The commercial implied that Nawlins was open & ready for business, and all we white folk had to do was bring our credit cards and par-tay!

We are a nation in rapid decline.

  170. Ricl077 says:

Course they didn’t mention to these “whitefolk” they better bring there guns.

Since people are returning to Nawlins the murder rates have gone up.

Good news is people in Houston can fell safe.Their murder rates will go down.

  171. Bluestocking says:

All this serves to demonstrate is that the phrase “compassionate conservative” is an oxymoron — and that once you remove the last two letters from Boortz’s last name, it suits him to absolute perfection.

  172. VerbalKint says:

#173 and 175 prove the utter futility of trying to change the behavior of the pathetic and disgusting freaks that troll this site. From the standpoint of our species, they are a pathology.

  173. Wayne A. Schneider says:

Sounds like Boortz is vying for Monday night’s “Worst Person in the World”.

    Neal is 100% correct!!

    Comment by John Kerry — February 3, 2008 @ 8:53 am

No, person who calls himself John Kerry but who is lying, he is not.

  174. Lefty Patriot says:

Boortz is a typical wingnut coward, spewing his filth from the protection of the corporation, like upright left, john kerry and the rest of the wingnut cowards do on this site. You can be sure that not a one of those wussies would dare say anything like that to anyone’s face, unless they were looking to lose their last front tooth. it’ll be a great day when these little freaks crawl back under their rocks, and gnash their teeth over a female or black Democratic president! Then we’ll have the last laugh, again.

  175. bernard quatermass says:

Hooray for free speech, but boo to whatever lack of education, taste or intelligence led to this particular beefslug speaking as he does. He is utterly revolting.

  176. bernard quatermass says:

Wow, so NB is a chicken-hawk? Nice. I love these fat loudmouthed privileged slobs who have had everything served up to them on a platter their entire lives, talking about other people being “garbage.”

    Yeah.

  177. kasinca says:

Sounds like you are attacking the Katrina victims. They are “Walmart aisle wanderers” and it’s safe to assume that a majority of them are Christians. Poor and working class people live in trailers, not the rich. And the majority of NASCAR fans are working class folks. You obviously don’t have any higher opinion of them than Boortz does. ;)

    Comment by upright left — February 3, 2008 @ 2:30 am

I was acually describing the typical 28%er who would repeat the non-sense of Boortz, O’Really, Hannity, and Limpdick and then vote against their own self interest. That makes up the group that the trolls are in…too ignorant to know what the hell they are talking about and ready to attack those in the same boat they are in.

  178. Fred says:

yeah, the trolls are really swimmin in their own misery. They know it’s over for them and their hatred will be frowned on in the future, not rewarded as it is by the republicans.

I’m with verbalkint, I say let them represent the republicans…..it shows what their party really values.

I leave TP on my computer at all times now and as my college age children and their friends come and go I share things with them….it is eye opening for them….

thanks trolls for being what you are…..

  179. Klem Kiddilehopper says:

  180. marlow says:

Boortz displays the typical fascist mentality, which simpers and bootlicks authority and viciously attacks others it perceives to be weaker. Nothing new, they’ve done the same to gays, women and minorities for years. If you’re a Nazi, you HAVE to hate something. Sickening to watch, though.

  182. upright left says:

Frankly, uptight right, I’d rather be a bit nutty than hateful like Boortz and, to a lesser degree, you. But, as a matter of fact, I am quite sane. And you obviously haven’t read much if you aren’t aware of all the government lists of potential troublemakers, such as the “no-fly” lists that include the names of infants and Senator Ted Kennedy, among others.

    Comment by LoraS — February 3, 2008 @ 4:03 am

Senator Kennedy wasn’t actually on the no fly list, now was he? It was someone with a similar name and other criteria that caused him to be delayed. And it was inept govt employees that caused it to happen several times. The post to which I responded suggested that the govt is keeping track of people who post on TP. I hardly think it’s hateful to point out how foolish that is. ;)

  183. upright left says:

Nuts?

Pull your head out of your a**, if you still have the strength to get it out of there.
    Comment by VerbalKint — February 3, 2008 @ 4:27 am

Inept govt employees are a fact of life, but not considered harassment. The govt isn’t listening to “everyone’s” phone calls. Get a grip, bud. ;)

    Comment by VerbalKint — February 3, 2008 @ 4:31 am

I assume this was directed to me. It’s interesting that you suggested that I was “mocking others for their concern.” I’m not the one who used the terms “trailer trash NASCAR morons” or “wal-mart aisleway wandering idiots.” I simply pointed out that poor and working class folks tend to shop at Walmart and attend NASCAR events. And the residents of trailer parks tend to be poor and/or working class. You think those folks would feel that someone who used those terms was expressing concern for them? That’s some kind of bizarro world theory you have there.
You’re right about the “rightwing hateful freaks.” They are as bad as the leftwing hateful freaks. ;)

Other criteria?!? WTF is that supposed to mean? Flying while a liberal senator? Give me a break, moron. It happened to another prominent liberal senator too, Daschle or Leahy or someone like that.

  190. VerbalKint says:

Answer this, upright idiot: why doesn’t TSA close a widely publicized loophole that allows anyone on the list to circumvent identification and fly anyway? They’ve left the door wide open, deliberately, for any real terrorist on the list to fly. TSA acknowledges the loophole, but won’t do anything about it. Why oh why do you think that is? Because maybe the list is meant to harass political opponents? Is that why so many anti-war figures are on the list? Because maybe they don’t care about real security?

  191. LoraS says:

Whether or not, the person who gets denied access to a flight actually has hi/her name on the “no-fly” list, this is happening far too often not only to liberal Senators but also to infants and other citizens with absolutely no terrorist connections. Moreover, it’s not foolish to think that some posters here are being kept track of by this administration, which loves to wiretap without warrants. Some relatives of mine made Nixon’s “enemies list” over 30 years ago, and what Bush/Cheney have been doing makes Tricky Dick’s days look like child’s play. The only foolishness here is your defense of this corrupt, uncaring administration.

Another time, the spokesman says, Kennedy was tagged for extra screening under a security system that watches for such factors as a person buying a one-way ticket or paying with cash.

He says Kennedy was never on a “no-fly” list, which automatically keeps a person off a plane.

I offered no “defense of this corrupt, uncaring administration.” I simply pointed out that Senator Kennedy was never on the no fly list and that the confusion resulted from someone with a similar name and/or govt incompetence. You won’t find me defending govt inability. And I don’t doubt that people will be watched, legally or otherwise, who appear to be engaged in more than criticizing the administration. I am seldom surprised to learn that politicians are engaged in illegal activity. The internet is filled with blogs criticizing Bush. It is highly unlikely that anyone on this blog is being watched unless they have made threats.
I am, however, surprised that no one had a problem with the use of the terms “trailer trash” and “wal-mart aisleway wandering idiots.” I’m sure most of the folks that Boortz called garbage are Walmart shoppers. It’s ok for libs to use terms that are insulting to the poor because they claim to care about them?

You’ve got to be very naive or downright stupid if you really believe “It is highly unlikely that anyone on this blog is being watched unless they have made threats.” My relatives some 30 years ago made Nixon’s enemies list just for being part of a group calling for his impeachment–no violence. Likewise, many people actively opposing the Iraq War, Bush/Cheney, and calling for their impeachment are being monitored today.
As for your last question, I personally do not use such words about poor people nor do I condone them.

  197. upright left says:

    Comment by LoraS — February 3, 2008 @ 11:59 pm

Unless a list is somehow made public, we won’t know if TP bloggers who rant about Bush are on any watch lists. We’ll just have to disagree about that. As for the derogatory terms, of course, you’re aware that I didn’t suggest that you use them. Just pointing out the hypocrisy of someone using those terms in a thread about Boortz saying abusive things about the poor.

So you are under the impression that the 28% who support Bush are largely poor and working class people as opposed to the wealthy? And trailer trash is an acceptable label for poor people who support Bush, but not for poor people who don’t support him? Trailer trash is not a term used to describe one’s political leanings. Did you see the thread a while back where libs were saying conservatives always say things were taken out of context to get out of having said something stupid or offensive?

You show me where I’ve defended Bush’s irresponsible spending and the Iraq war and I’ll take responsibility for it. I’m not a Republican, I’m an Independent. I vote for the candidate with whom I agree on the most issues since I never agree with them on eveything. I know, some libs here will call me a fence sitter. They are like the far righties who think you have to agree with everything they do or you are agaisnt them. Now that we’ve settled that, how about addressing the issue of the lib who used the offensive terms “trailer trash” and “wal-mart aisleway wandering idiots” while claiming to care about the poor. The hypocrisy of libs in regard to issues like this makes people wonder just how much libs actually care about the poor. Makes it seem like you care enough to give them welfare, but they certainly aren’t good enough to associate with you. ;)

Boortz’s this morning had answers for everyone who gave him, Mr. “who has a head shaped like a” Piss-Pot, a bad time! Check out his whine at Nealz Nuze!
In one of his last sentences he whines about how terrible the crime was on a cruise ship docked in Mobile, for Mississippians who had lost everything!
Goggling the Mobile Police Dept Crime Reports I came up with this dilly , a month after the storm!
From Sept 17 – Oct 17 27 arrests were reported amongst the 1400 on the ship:

    4- Domestic Violence
    3- Disorderly Conduct
    6- Public Drunkenness
11- Drug Related and one “Felony Poss. of Cocaine
3- Arrest Warrants, one for Forgery, no reason for the other two!
Ya Boortz! It was a Crime Wave of unimaginable proportions running amuck thru out the ship!
Seeing how most if not all the people on the ship had lost everything they owned, except the clothes on their backs, it looks like they handled themselves pretty well!
But Boortz true to form, couldn’t report anything truthfully cause it would make him look like a even bigger wad of syphilitic cum, dripping on a outhouse wall!!

Dang, bud, your ability to continue to respond without addressing the offending post is impressive. You were off on your last two posts, though. You lost your composure a little and this post is just too far off the mark. You see, bud, I never mentioned anyone having insulted me. Insult away, I can take it. No, the posts in question contained terms that are derogatory toward poor people on a thread condemning Boortz for saying derogatory things about poor people. ;)

  209. mistermook says:

after scanning the comments I have two of my own my friends.
    1) Exactly what did this Mr. Boortz say that was incorrect? Storm coming….get out of dodge. If you read the papers, and follow the news what he is saying is happening. Perhaps his personal comments ARE over the top, but on the facts he appears to be correct. People in New Orleans DID sit and wait for help instead of taking personal responsibility. And in places where they went, crime did go up, and people who were charitable are now finding their appartments trashed and having difficulty getting rid of them.
    2) I find it ironic that the same people who accuse this Mr. Boortz of hatefullness are also dripping with venom when they refer to him. Shouldnt we take the high road and feel bad that he doesnt get it? You dont do our side any favours when you crawl down in the gutter too. All you do is make yourself look like and uneducated moron
