In the Washington Times this morning, former Reagan Justice Department official Bruce Fein rips President Bush’s recent signing statement on Iraq. By attempting to disregard Congress’s right to bar funding for permanent bases, Bush’s statement will live in “infamy” because it “tacitly averred that Congress was required to appropriate money to support every presidential national security gambit,” he writes. By not holding Bush accountable for the signing statement, Fein says “Congress has taken the Constitution backward more than three centuries.”
HEAR THAT, CONGRESS?!!!
FIX THIS MESS!.
February 5th, 2008 at 11:40 amAND HURRY UP!
February 5th, 2008 at 11:40 ami really like the part of the constitution where it says we can abolish our govt…. how do we start?
February 5th, 2008 at 11:41 amBy not holding Bush accountable for the signing statement, Fein says “Congress has taken the Constitution backward more than three centuries.â€
I concur , but what about your GOP party , Fein ?
They are nothing but a bunch of goose-stepping morons who have aided and abetted the retarded simian in the Oval Office for 7 friggin years ; the GOP has been guilty of trying to turn the US into a monarchy , while the court jester sits upon the throne………..
February 5th, 2008 at 11:41 amFan of Man; I’m with you. Let the Revolution begin! Time to storm the Bastille(White House)!
February 5th, 2008 at 11:43 amWhat more can be said at this point? Bush should hang for treason.
February 5th, 2008 at 11:44 amToday’s understatement: An easily manipulated president who knows nothing about the constitution is a recipe for disaster.
February 5th, 2008 at 11:44 amWhoops. Looks like the Reagan administration has turned on the Bush administration. Oh well, future repub candidates can always liken themselves to Hoover conservatives.
February 5th, 2008 at 11:44 amDon’t worry Hillary will fix all that~
February 5th, 2008 at 11:46 amAccountability = Impeachment.
February 5th, 2008 at 11:46 amAnd sadly, our representatives are so fearful of ‘developing a groundswell of support’ for this pathetic chymp, they’d rather play a round of Let’s Run Out the Clock than do their sworn duty to uphold the Constitution.
Sad, bad, mad.
Congress has the responsibility to deal with this. The purse and impeachment are their tools. Something else must be going on for the congress not to jump on impeacment with the number of possible offenses to put forward as high crimes and misdemeanors. The Bush admin and his cronies are not about BJ’s, it’s about crime here at home and on the international scene. The ineptitude of the congress, the downright obscene refusal of the congress to do its job is disgusting and detrimental to the welfare of the nation. This signing statement is Bush’s ego operating on full trottle. This alteration of legislation is not right.
February 5th, 2008 at 11:55 amThere sure are a lot of Republicans trying to squirm from the back of the parade where they’ve been for seven years to the front of the parade as it begins to make a left turn, shouting “I’m the leader! I’m the leader!” as they wiggle their way into the spotlight.
February 5th, 2008 at 11:56 amAfter 7 years of abuse? Way to go out on a limb a$$hole.
February 5th, 2008 at 11:56 am… and this was in the Moonie Times?
What’s wrong with this picture? Is this a sign that the Republican establishment is ready to throw Dumbya under the bus?
February 5th, 2008 at 12:04 pm“Congress has taken the Constitution backward more than three centuries.â€
Being as the Constitution is just a bit over 200 years old, I agree with the assessment. Basically Bush has thrown out the Constitution and because Congress is taking no action, The government has broken the contract with its citizens. We are now a lawless country.
February 5th, 2008 at 12:05 pmbruce fein has been working and talking about the abuses of this
administration for at least a few years… i’ve heard him speak with
all the AirAmericaRadio hosts many times… and i think it may have
started with AL FRANKEN…
gee… i wonder why so many people haven’t heard about this…
February 5th, 2008 at 12:11 pmFein: Bush signing statement takes ‘Constitution backwards.’
———————————————————-
I don’t disagree that it does , but it isn’t like this is the 1st time that Chimpy the Wonder Monkey has crapped all over the Constitution ; where the hell were statements like this when Shrub and Co originally started breaking the law ?
And where was Fein when Victoria Toensing attempted to defend the treacherous and traitorous actions of this garbage administration by testifying AGAINST Valerie Plame ?

February 5th, 2008 at 12:16 pmMeanwhile , scumbags like Victoria Toensing toe the GOP line and testify against Valerie Plame , in an effort to make it seem the wrong-doing was committed by those that were merely attempting to do their job(s)……..

February 5th, 2008 at 12:29 pmI don’t……….Blame must always 1st be placed upon the shoulders of the perpetrators.
Congress is the Cowardly Lion, the Supreme Court is the heartless Tinman, Bush is the brainless Scarecrow, and Cheney is the false Wizard. They are taking us all down the yellow brick slippery slope.
February 5th, 2008 at 12:36 pm21 I agree…..I’m pretty sure I’m not alone though in wondering why the dems haven’t found more ways to stop the bleeding……are they lazy or complicit? Where is their outrage?

By no means the first time Bruce Fein has spoken out. He’s very much on John Dean’s bus.
February 5th, 2008 at 12:48 pmStorm the Bastille(White House) and execute Robespierre(GWBush)! The French would have at least ousted the idiot freak by now! At this point americans have just barely enough commitment to switch channels with their remote and pop another cialis to get hard!

I don’t care ; they are easily replaceable………..And they must be.
If you are unwilling to do something , whether out of complicity or lack of guts , you don’t represent anyone but yourself ; and that isn’t why you were elected……………

Absolutely. I wasn’t talking about Fein’s willingness to speak up; he’s been doing that all along.
What struck me as odd was the Washington Times publishing it.

Neocons are incapable of being elected. They have to force their ego-stroking on the masses. They use our goverment to stick a few job titles on their resume in hopes of skipping a few rungs on the corporate ladder.
February 5th, 2008 at 1:07 pmStone Ages anyone? Or maybe we can call this the Bush Dark Ages.

February 5th, 2008 at 1:10 pmI know that I am being redundant, but I think that the DINOs, reid and pelosi and their supporters, are cowed like battered women. Paul Wellstone’s “accident,” the anthrax attack on Sen. Tom Daschle, and the NSA wiretapping have the Dems quaking in their boots. Look at pelosi; she didn’t say that impeachment was “off the table” until after Nov ‘06, and conyers wrote 300+ pages on why to impeach w, but pelosi told him to forget it. I heard conyers’ illogical dance on DemocracyNow. Real change is not going to come under any of the current presidential hopefuls because they are all in the corporate pockets. I will vote dem, but I realize that we are going down the same road we are on politically and the Constitution will eventually be considered “quaint.”

February 5th, 2008 at 1:22 pmIt is up to every American who votes , to know who and what they’re voting for ………
He’s right, but when are the wimps in Congress going to do something about it?
As much as I hate partisan bickering, I think Bush has pushed too far and needs to be pushed back.
February 5th, 2008 at 2:36 pmAt least one judge has the sense to tell Dubya that he’s not the Deciderator-In-Chief, and to “go Cheney himself”….
Cheers,
February 5th, 2008 at 2:37 pmINDICT IMPEACH IMPRISON BUSH AND CHENNEY! HAGUE 2009!
February 5th, 2008 at 3:18 pmFein restores my hope that there may indeed be republicans who are not ideologues and who recognize that the destruction of the Constitution by Bush&Co must be stopped NOW.
February 5th, 2008 at 5:01 pmHe has been interviewed on C-Span and on NOW with Bill Moyers. It is another example of the failure of the msm (electronic and print) that they have not given this attorney’s views more substantive coverage and support.
It speaks again to the consolidation of media, beholden to the corporate owners, that the really important news stories are allowed their 2 minutes of coverage, then allowed to slip into the bottomless pit of forgotten news.
