McConnell calls Bolton op-ed a ‘gross misrepresentation’

Former UN Ambassador John Bolton penned an op-ed in today’s WSJ claiming that the key judgments in the latest Iran NIE were “distorted,” written by “policy enthusiasts,” and put the “intelligence community’s credibility and impartiality on the line.” Today during a Senate threat assessment hearing, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) asked Director of National Intelligence Mike McConnell about Bolton’s assertions. McConnell replied:

MCCONNELL: Sir, I’ll start by saying that the integrity and the professionalism in this NIE is probably the highest in our history in terms of objectivity and quality of the analysis and challenging the assumptions and conducting red teams on the process, conducting a counter intelligence assessment about “were we being misled” and so on. So I would start by saying that the article you refer to is a gross misrepresentation of the professionalism of this community.

And how ironic that it was written be a former administration member who is still an administration cheerleader and which is the least professional and honest this nation has ever had the displeasure of witnessing and enduring through…….

The West Virginia GOP could announce its pick for president by 2:30 p.m. Eastern time on Feb. 5, potentially giving that candidate a boost in states where polls close hours later.

the polls in w.va don’t close till 8pm
hopefully, the w.va GOPers and gonna look pretty silly…

but there should be NO results announced until 8pm cal. time…

  18. bobcat_grad says:

    Daryll -

Huckabee didn’t win a primary. He was awarded delegates by a Republican convention that decided a primary with actual people voting was too democratic. Instead, they got a group of uber-Republicans together and voted for West Virginia’s populace. Essentially they said to WV GOP voters, “Screw you. We don’t trust you to make the choice we want, so we’re making it for you.”

Oh, and Huckabee only won on the second vote after some shady campaigning by McCain to get his votes switched to Huckabee just to keep Romney from winning.

“a gross misrepresentation”, again another word for a lie. How many words for a lie can the Rightards come up with. Misspoke, misremembered, misquoted, misrepresentation. How about we just call it what it is, it was a lie. Bolton lied in his article like he lies about pretty much everything.

Exxon is not a surprise, but the foundations, namely Gates, need to fine-tune their philanthropic giving.

If we’re hopeful, AEI will downgrade substantially in influence with the installation of good democratic president.

  25. PeterW says:

#12, the 24%ers don’t throw money at think tanks. There is very little conservative grassroots when it comes to money.

Their funding comes from the top down, from the ultra-rich who are the actual beneficiaries of conservative policies; the authoritarian follower 24%ers just get the warm fuzzy of knowing their godly leaders are there hating and killing the right people for them.

Huckabee Wins All 18 W.Virginia Delegates
    Posted: Today at 2:33 p.m.
    Updated: Today at 2:36 p.m.
    [...]
In the first contest decided Tuesday, Huckabee won all 18 delegates at the West Virginia GOP convention. Romney had hoped to claim victory there, but with McCain trailing, his backers switched their support to Huckabee to deprive Romney of the win.
Addressing the convention beforehand, Romney asked voters, “Are we going to put a true conservative in the house that Ronald Reagan built or are we going to take a left turn?”

“the house that r.r. built”… that is disgusting…

these are GOP delegates only, correct?

and, does that mean that mccave WAS in 3rd place?

  27. bilbobaggins says:

Loon Darryll is all excited about Huckabee “Winning” West Virginia. Unfortunately he really didn’t win. He made a deal with John McCain and McCain threw his delegates to Huckabee to stop Romney from getting a win. The people of West Virginia have not spoken. The politicians in West Virginia have spoken.

  28. gummitch says:

and, does that mean that mccave WAS in 3rd place?

    Comment by katy — February 5, 2008 @ 4:00 pm

Not necessarily, only that his delegates plus Huck’s added up to more than Mitt’s. Whatever they’re using to select a candidate sounds like something out of the 1920s.

  40. Bad Eye says:

So I would start by saying that John Bolton is a gross misrepresentation of the professionalism of this community.

There…fixed it for ya. (Emphasis on gross)

  41. squidbilly says:

Bolton’s WSJ piece is entitled “Our Politicized Intelligence Services”

Well he should know being part of the gang who politicized the reasons to go to war with Iraq!

Distorting facts, fabricating evidence, utilizing incredulous informants, using old intelligence information, uncorroborated facts, taking words and statements out of context……Dick Cheney influencing the CIA report (how many visits to CIA HQ?) prior to the invasion…. GW’s sucking up to Tenant (and visa versa) …the list goes on……

So why should we believe anything he’s saying now?

  42. Marie says:

McConnell is indignant that Bolton has grossly misinterpreted the NIE report – OK – why is Bolton still able to speak with authority for the administration, even as he is out of office?
Bolton is a tool. He has always lied, always placed the party above principle, always twisted facts to conform to his own concepts.
McConnell is insulted, but nothing will change.

#52 Bolton is an irrelevant War Criminal!
    Comment by sacopenapa — February 5, 2008 @ 5:54 pm

Simply not true! He is relevant because of the platform he is now on and the microphone he wields. Propaganda needs repeating and repeating to be effective. He is part of that neocon, neo-fascist machine, spewing lies constantly.

We should be very aware of him and his ilk because there are a lot of people who are not aware of him, who he is and what he represents. They hear him as an “expert” and take umbrage at what he says. After all, he was our UN Ambassador, they think.

He needs to be exposed and downgraded to the evil person he is, by anyone who knows, and has a voice!

  45. Great Frybread King says:

Bolton is a has-been. He won’t have a job until another neo-conservative is elected into office, which won’t happen until the Democrats clean up Bush’s mess and people forget how terrible he was as president.
