On his Feb. 1 broadcast of his radio show, The Savage Nation, host Michael Savage called the 2008 election the “first affirmative action election in American history“:
We have a woman and a multi-ethnic man running for office on the Democrat side. Is this not akin to an affirmative action election? … In many ways you could say this election is about the mandate called affirmative action, and I can predict right now they’re gonna lose because when the American people themselves have been able to vote for or against affirmative action, as most recently they did on a ballot initiative in very liberal Michigan, they voted against affirmative action.
Michael Savage Weiner is an idiot.

Every time.
February 5th, 2008 at 10:01 amWell, since we can’t have an “affirmative action” president, I guess that a black or a woman can never run for president. It is exclusively a white man’s job. Isn’t that right Savage. Setting aside the presidency for a white man is discrimination at it’s finest.
This man is such a fool and such a tool. I pity the people who listen to him. They all must have mush for brains.

February 5th, 2008 at 10:05 am“Very liberal Michigan”…??? BWAHAHAHAHA!!!
Trust me, I live in Michigan and much of the state is anything BUT “liberal”. We’re pretty representative of the nation as a whole when it comes right down to it.
- csavage (no relation to the idiot Michael Savage)
February 5th, 2008 at 10:06 amWhat Savage negects to mention is that we currently have an “affirmative action” president. His Iraq policy amounts to affimative action – for Iraqis.
February 5th, 2008 at 10:07 amRepublicans have narrowed it to:
1. Romney, the millionaire son of a Governor.
2. McCain, the son and grandson of Admirals (married into his millions).
Obama and Clinton earned their way into elite colleges and law schools.
February 5th, 2008 at 10:07 amMichael “Weener” is a pandering demagogue, undeserving of even having a microphone. Why anyone tunes in his program is a mystery to me — listening to non-stop hate and vitriol is poisoning and potentially harmful to one’s psyche.
February 5th, 2008 at 10:08 amBotch could also be considered a “legacy” president.

You are wrong. A recent CNN poll shows that 72% of White americans told them that they would vote for a black for president. Keep in mind that was white Americans. I’m willing to bet that the percentage is higher if they factor in other races.
http://www.charlescountycafe.com/?p=2574
February 5th, 2008 at 10:09 amThe Democratic race is thus flirting with a dangerous competition between inequalities to correct or injustices to repair. The risk is that by dividing the electorate of their party, the two candidates could cause fractures that the one who is nominated cannot repair.

I disagree too….I think the American people will vote for anything that runs against a republican this time…..anything…..I don’t think they could dig up raygun and do any better right now……they are done for a long time.
You see republicans can’t survive well in a democracy. they want things thier way even if they are in the minority and will do illegal and immoral things to have their way….example…..2000-2007 pick a day. They have shown their hand.
Any group who would destroy our economy in order to be able to say we can’t afford domestic programs are traitors to America……that is what they have done…..again….
February 5th, 2008 at 10:21 amSo, I guess in 2000, electing Affirmative Action Presidents was alive and well because the Supreme Court appointed the country’s first president with an IQ equivalent to a push pin.

Bull! Any two candidates have the capability to fracture their party, did you read the limbaugh thread below? Does that mean that McCain shouldn’t run because the neocons and religious fanatics in the repubican party don’t like the cut of his jib?
It’s the media that will fracture the dem party if it happens. Hill and Obama have been pretty good about not trying to blow up the party. The media talks about this because they’re generally to lazy to actually do their job, and they’re generally too self centered to realize that nobody cares what they think.

If you think that Obama or Clinton are the better candiate, bote for them because of that, but don’t vote for a candidate simply because of their gender or race.
Comment by good_golly — February 5, 2008 @ 10:00 am
You’re right, but that’s not what Savage is saying. He’s spinning the fact that Obama and Clinton out-fundraised and out-lasted the other candidates as “affirmative action.” They got to their position as frontrunners by being the two best campaigners in the field, not because of their race or gender.

It ain’t Utah, but only the misinformed would call Michigan “very liberal”. Misinformed or a lying sack of sh!t or both, as in savage’s case.
I ’spose you could label the SE corner “liberal” (Ann Arbor, metro Detroit), but certainly not the entire state! The plethora of Romney and Ron Paul signs littering the roadways are proof of that!
February 5th, 2008 at 10:48 amNot sure what planet Savage comes from, but WE now outnumber HIM. Multi ethnic people and females together compose far more than half of the electorate and so is more “akin” to the makeup of America than any caucasian male could ever hope to be, no matter how rich, fat or powerful he may think he is.
TP doesn’t need this kind of crap reiterated here. Let’s have something more substantive than OReilly or Savage quotes…PLEASE

February 5th, 2008 at 10:55 amscientifically, because I think the black gene is dominant……what’s wrong with him being black?
Comment by Fred
No, not scientifically. Sociologically, the “black” MEME is dominant, because for a hundred years in this country about 1/3 of our states defined their citizens’ race by the “one drop” rule…if you had ANY amount of African ancestors, you were “black” for the purposes of Jim Crow.
It’s 50 years after that sort of thing was finally officially ended, but 50 years is an eyeblink in historical terms.
February 5th, 2008 at 10:56 amUnder Apartheid in South Africa, if you were part white and part black (or from India) you were in a different category: Colored.
But in the American South, one drop of black blood made you black. (this was inevitable, with white slave owners using their black slaves for pleasure.)
In Louisiana it was codified: look up what ‘quadroon’ and ‘octaroon’ mean.
Our evil traditions still shape us.
Put Barack Obama in a Honda Accord and send him through Simi Valley at night, and he’d get stopped for Driving While Black.
Q.E.D.
Barack Obama was president of the Harvard Law School law review. If he becomes president, that’s not affirmative action, that’s meritocracy.
February 5th, 2008 at 10:58 amThe racist Savage said :
“We have a woman and a multi-ethnic man running for office on the Democrat side. Is this not akin to an affirmative action election?”
Ah, no it doesn’t. Not at all. Not in the least bit.
How does a woman or a multi ethnic man running for elected office have anything to do with affirmative action?
AGAIN, IT DOES NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT AT ALL !
There is no quota, there is no assistance being given for race or gender, there is no percentage of Presidential candidates that MUST be Female or of any ethnic group.
Savage is trying to scare up some support using his dog whistle bullshit on any rube he can find.

You seem to believe that racist carol which claimed that affirmative action programs accept D and F students. That’s total BS. Same qualifications, not the D and F myth.
February 5th, 2008 at 1:16 pmReply to #1: There’s only one problem with your and Savage’s thinking. The US Constitution doesn’t say that only white males can be elected President. Any besides that fact, blacks and women have every right and white males have regardless of affirmitive action. Why? They’ve earned it by fighting and dying is every war this country has ever fought including the two going on right now. What does it say about a country where only white men can rule? Apparently you and the idiots who agree with your comments also agree with the Taliban who treat women like dirt and make them cover their faces. If you want to be like the Arab countries and the Taliban, you have my permission to move there. I served this country protecting you stupid azz from these people and now you tell me I can’t be President. Where did you get that right? Who gave it too you? You think because you are white, you automatically have it right? Think again stupid, the people of this country will deside who is President, not fools like you.
February 5th, 2008 at 1:27 pmTheir scared to death that it will be a landslide for the Dems. GOOD, this country needs to rid itself of the corrupt repukes for good.

February 5th, 2008 at 1:43 pmFirst, it is worth pointing out that, as usual, Michael Weiner has no idea what he’s talking about.
Second, note to Weiner, it is DEMOCRATIC not DEMOCRAT. Basic grammar there…. shouldn’t be that hard.
OK… on to the real topic: affirmative action.
The comparison of the Democratic primary campaigns with affirmative action is total nonsense; no one is forcing either Hillary Clinton nor Barack Obama on voters. Neither of them was asked to run; they chose to run themselves. If the voters in the Democratic primaries and caucauses have chosen Clinton and Obama, then that is who we chose, not who was appointed for us.
February 5th, 2008 at 2:01 pmEight years is enough for a “Negative Actions” President. Bush time is almost over.

The nursing home dayrooms will be up in arms, with the waving of knobby fists and the clacking of misaligned dentures…
February 5th, 2008 at 2:23 pmI don’t think he knows what affirmative action is…or how it has been “used”.
“Affirmative action refers to policies intended to promote access…”
“We have a woman and a multi-ethnic man running for office on the Democrat side. Is this not akin to an affirmative action election? …”
No policy was enacted in order to give them access to run,
February 5th, 2008 at 2:32 pmtherefore not affermative action,
not akin to it either.
The Bush cultists thoughtfully concur on this – it just wouldn’t be right to elect someone who didn’t rise to his or her position on the basis of their own talent. Now, let’s talk about a guy who got into Harvard Business School with less than a 3.0 GPA and got into Yale with less than a 3.0 GPA. Bush cultists: how did that happen? Was that affirmative action for the wealthy?
February 5th, 2008 at 5:25 pmnot to mention the affirmative action for conservative right-wing hacks in the Civil Rights Department…
wingnut affirmative action is a-okay though, because it’s only ending liberal bias.
