Yesterday at a speech in North Carolina, long-time UPI correspondent Helen Thomas sharply criticized President Bush and his administration, calling it “one of the most secretive in history.” “This man has forgotten the poor and the sick,” Thomas said. “We are hated around the world.”
A real patriot speaks out.
February 6th, 2008 at 11:12 amWe need MORE Helen Thomas’s.
February 6th, 2008 at 11:14 amGo, Helen. You represent real journalists – a rare commodity today. Reporters (stenographers) call themselves journalists, but they are simply toadies for their coporate owners.
February 6th, 2008 at 11:15 amIf she hates Preisdent Bush, she must be a crazy moonbat with Bush Derangement Syndrome — either that, or just an American who has simply been paying attention.
February 6th, 2008 at 11:15 amWe aren’t hated 100% around the world. Some people actually still ike Americans. Not too many, but I met a few people this January who liked Americans on the other side of the planet. They liked me a lot more when I told them I was voting for Obama.
And Bush didnt forget the sick, hes just ignoring them. Profit is more important than good health , isn’t it. You cant buy a yacht with good health, can you. sarcasm off.
February 6th, 2008 at 11:21 ampssst ralph; Helen is one of the few MSM who HAS payed any attention. Others are corporate whores calling themselves journalists. Helen has more cajones than ABC, NBC, CBS, & CNN combined.
February 6th, 2008 at 11:23 amHelen is a national treasure and a real class act. We owe her a debt of gratitude.
February 6th, 2008 at 11:24 amI loved Helen Thomas’ skit she did with Colbert a couple of years ago.
Helen is a great American and God Bless her for speaking the truth.
For which this Fascist Regime that we have been living under for the past 8 years : not one truth has been uttered.
And the Acquiscent Sleeping Complicit Media has let the Bush Krime Kabal literally get away with Murder.
More Power to you, Helen for speaking the Truth.
February 6th, 2008 at 11:30 am‘As the audience sat in silence toward the end of the speech, Thomas called for action.
“I want you in the streets”, she said. “I have aroused you all to revolution and yet you’re still sitting there.”‘
February 6th, 2008 at 11:31 amWe aren’t hated 100% around the world. Some people actually still ike Americans. Not too many, but I met a few people this January who liked Americans on the other side of the planet. They liked me a lot more when I told them I was voting for Obama.

In my experience, most people in the world like the American people (and they especially American tourists who don’t know how to bargain). It’s just our foreign policy they don’t like.
February 6th, 2008 at 11:39 amIt is because the poor and the sick cannot afford to write big checks to the party establishment.
It is because of that they will not be remembered.
Helen Thomas is one of the few journalists left writing and speaking in defense of the public.
February 6th, 2008 at 11:43 amBush & his faux press secretaries have ignored Helen for years.
What a travesty…she’s 80+ years old, has covered many President’s and was widely respected by everybody but the Bushlickers.
Thanks for all your hard work over these past decades, Ms. Thomas.
It’s people like you, coupled with sunlight, that keep worms like Bush & Co scrambling for dark corners or issuing outright lies.
Helen is a member of an elite corps who are proud to be journalists, not talking heads & Bushlicking sycophants.
February 6th, 2008 at 11:50 amYeoweee, thank the PTB for Helen Thomas. Just TiVo’d Five Star Final on TCM (insomniac theatre watching after the primaries).
You could have starred in it, Helen. Or, even more aptly, The Front Page. Old school muckraking @ its best. Clone yourself, HT. We need you.
February 6th, 2008 at 11:51 amThe republican hate machine has stereotyped Helen as a loon, but then again they probably don’t think much of Mother Theresa.
Helen, we should all be thankful for your existence. You are prevailing by the art of compassion and intelligence.
February 6th, 2008 at 11:52 amYou go girl!!! Speak truth to power!!!
Lay it on the line, let the world know that we, the PROGRESSIVES AND LIBERALS are NOT REPUkIAN WAR MONGERS.
We despise the vile scum, they are traitors to the constitution and the rule of law and we are going to turn out in such large numbers in November that the repukian scum will be driven into their caves for many years to come.

February 6th, 2008 at 11:52 amI’m still surprised that the bush admin hasn’t barred her yet.
February 6th, 2008 at 11:54 amI heard Helen Thomas speak in Iowa over a year ago – and she said the same thing. THE most secretive. Her voice needs to be heard and heard LOUD!
February 6th, 2008 at 11:55 amPer # 14-
No, too small a praise for HT.
Helen Thomas could have written/directed them…
February 6th, 2008 at 11:56 amLay it on the line, let the world know that we, the PROGRESSIVES AND LIBERALS are NOT REPUkIAN WAR MONGERS.
Comment by Buckie Boy — February 6, 2008 @ 11:52 am
Buckie, I have to disagree with you here; I’ll be content if Helen Thomas simply continues reporting teh truth the American people need to hear. When a progressive or a liberal screws up or gets corrupted, I hope she’s there to point it out.
We need, above all, credible journalists like Helen in order to keep the populace informed. The wingnuts figured that out, and they figured out that the simplest way to short-circuit that information process is to impugn the credibility of people like Helen Thomas. The only thing they had to work with was “if she’s picking on the president, she must be a looney leftie”. It seems to have worked on the rest of the MSM and WH press corps.
February 6th, 2008 at 11:58 amWe need MORE Helen Thomas’s.
Comment by Uncle Ho — February 6, 2008 @ 11:14 am
We also need more Amy Goodmans, Greg Palasts, Seymour Hirsches, and other real journalists who are not afraid to seek the truth.
February 6th, 2008 at 12:03 pmThank you, Helen.

February 6th, 2008 at 12:20 pmAnd this is why the Bushies NEVER call on Helen in the White House press briefings. I’m not really sure why she goes any longer except to stick her finger in Barbie Perino’s eye. She is a constant reminder, sitting in the front row, that the Bushies are afraid of the truth.
February 6th, 2008 at 12:22 pmNeocons: “The constitution never intended the military to be used for purposes of national security. Contact Halliburton for a detailed explanation (Visa/Mastercard accepted). Call now and recieve free a partial Terrorist-Proof ™ statement of our 1Q earnings.”
February 6th, 2008 at 12:27 pmI meant to post that on the above thread. My apologies for being off-topic.

Agreed, Bilbo.
February 6th, 2008 at 12:31 pmThe end of your sentence struck me as astute. While Bushco are instilling fear of jihadists & Muslims to everyone that will listen, we should be just replying with one response…
‘Bushies are afraid of the Truth’
‘Bushies are afraid of the Truth’

Wouldn’t it be great if Helen Thomas started each White House Dog and Pony Show (press briefing) by standing up and hollering “You can’t handle the truth”. I would love to see that happen, at least once.
February 6th, 2008 at 12:40 pmI don’t know if de BUSHIESare afraid of the truth or if money grubbing has gotten into them like a cancer.
I know that the love of money has a lot to do with folkes not telling the truth, and last time I looked, both were big time commandments.
So what do you figure what religion Bushiesare into?
February 6th, 2008 at 12:51 pmWish the press corps would all get together and decide not to ask a question until Helen has a few questions answered first. Wouldn’t that be great if the BushCo barbie doll had ONLY Helen to call on? Unfortunately, too many reich-wing plants in the room for that to happen.
February 6th, 2008 at 1:06 pm30 comments and no trolls… hmmm the silence makes me worry
February 6th, 2008 at 1:11 pmThat’s right Ms Thomas! On top of being idiotic and evil the freak is also dumb and stupid. I would have never imagined America being led by such a worm! That goes to show there’s a place in time even for a loser like Bush! Like the Dixie Chicks I am ashamed of Bush!
February 6th, 2008 at 1:24 pmSome of us don’t feel so good about ourselves these days either. Helen’s fought the good battle and deserves our accolades unlike a large segment of the political journalists who hang out ’round the WH these days.
February 6th, 2008 at 1:43 pmIf Jesus, Yeshua, YHWH, etc etc were to appear in America and tell the right wing politicians that they should love their enemy they would call him a fraud, a liar, a pacifist, a hippy, a traitor and crucify him. And Im not so sure the left wing politicians wouldn’t do the same.
February 6th, 2008 at 1:51 pmUnfortunately, too many reich-wing plants in the room for that to happen.

I wonder what would happen if one of the press, that was not in Bush’s pocket, threw her a question, when they were called on? They could say something like, “You know, I’ll toss this one to Helen so she can ask a question since you consistently ignore her”. What is Barbie Perino going to do? She can’t really say “No, I won’t take a question from Helen Thomas”. That would make her look like a real coward.

Conservatism officially died yesterday when America rejected Mutt and Huck.

I think they are all still in shock when they realized how many more Democrats came out to vote than Republicans. That had to scare the hell out of them! Or, maybe all their head’s exploded. One can only hope.
February 6th, 2008 at 1:55 pmMr. Baggins
I am going for #2
Head explosions would be cool!
February 6th, 2008 at 2:10 pmHelen Thomas’s birthday is August the 4th. I say FU(K Trent Lott how about a Helen Thomas appreciation day? She’ll be 87 years old this August and she has more morals than the entire Republican Party, bigger balls than anyone of the Dems and more moxy than all combined. She is truly a national treasure and it is a shame that this Administration is so afraid of an 87 year old woman that they pass her up on a daily basis. I would love nothing better next January to see Ms. Thomas kick Dana Purina down the effing White House steps. Let’s take out the trash Helen! If new boy Fratto tries to help Dana, kick him square in the jimmies and send him tumbling after!
February 6th, 2008 at 2:19 pmHELLEN THOMAS ROCKS!!!!!!!!! SHE REMINDS ME THAT THE CRIMINAL GOVERNMNET THAT INSTALLED ITSELF IN THE WH HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES!
February 6th, 2008 at 2:56 pmIf Helen Thomas says that the Bush administration is the “most secretive in history,” we can believe it. She’s been around for enough administrations that she’s able to make an objective comparison.
I’m so glad we still have her, and I hope there are enough young reporters out there using her as a role model that we will still have REAL journalists after she’s gone.

Or, they could start asking the right questions themselves.
