O’Reilly: ‘Dodge’ Fox News ‘at your peril.’

Calling into Fox and Friends this morning, Fox News host Bill O’Reilly discussed the prospect of Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) and Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) potentially debating on Fox News. O’Reilly said he expects “both Obama and Hillary Clinton to be respectful to the Fox News Channel.” “If you dodge us, it is at your peril,” he added. Watch it:

[flv http://video.thinkprogress.org/2008/02/OReillyPeril.320.240.flv]

O’Reilly also claimed that Fox “has treated both candidates fairly,” apparently forgetting the network’s pushing of the false madrassa story.

UPDATE: In June, when Democrats refused to debate on Fox, Fox CEO Roger Ailes claimed that “the candidates that can’t face Fox, can’t face Al Qaeda.”

    It’s like watching 2nd Graders.

I knew that Clinton would try to lean back toward the Right once she saw that Obama was starting to consolidate the far left… I just hope Obama sticks to his guns and continues to refuse to deal with FeuxNoise

If I were Clinton and Obama, I’d agree to the debate on one condition:

    Moderated by

    or
    b: Rachel Maddow

  7. Roger_Roger says:

Hillary already agreed to the debate.

  8. bilbobaggins says:

O’Reilly also claimed that Fox “has treated both candidates fairly,”

Well, that goes to tell you how delusional O’Reilly has become. Hopefully Obama will remain firm and refuse to debate on Faux Noise. Let Clinton go on Faux and debate herself.

There is no need for any Democrat to go on Faux Noise to debate. There is no way that the people who watch Faux would ever vote for a Democrat anyway, so why bother? Why open yourself to questions like “When did you stop beating your wife” because that is the kind of questions they will be asked.

I would like to see both Obama and Clinton officially announce (together) that they will be happily to debate anywhere….except Fox News.

After that announcement, we can then sit back, open a cold beer, and enjoy and whining, pissing, and moaning of all the goose-stepping talking heads on that sh*t-a**, sorry excuse of a news channel!

Loon ct is talking about follow-up questions like the example I gave before, questions like “when did you stop kicking your dog”.

Obama is not afraid of Faux Noise. He simply holds them in disdain since he knows that they are nothing more than a wing of the Republiscum party.

Either Obama or Clinton could run rings around any of the Fox talking heads, assuming that it was a fair fight. Unfortunately the way that the Fox talking heads speak to Democrats is to talk over them, under them, around them and when they get really upset about the answers, cut their mike’s.

  16. RUCerious says:

Another possibilty, since Faux Snooze isn’t really news, how about having the debate on the only other Fox offering worth a shit.

Poor little c**t thinks that dissing an organization with admitted bias against one’s party is the same thing as being “afraid”.

Poor little c**t confuses smart management of time, resources and circumstance with “fear”. Not surprising, as fear has become the theme song of the wrong wing these days.

  22. bilbobaggins says:

I have to say that the scorecard below the talking heads in the picture above must be making the Republican’s very nervous. In New Jersey this shows that almost 1,090,000 Democrats voted compared to the 469,000 Republicans who voted. The Republican vote was 43% of what the Democratic vote was. That has to be scaring the hell out of the talking heads on Fox and the Republican party in general.

    Comment by bobcat_grad — February 6, 2008 @ 2:42 pm

bobcat, this is a point that constantly bothers me.

It’s been shown that the presence of the news ticker and extranneous graphics decrease the amount of information retained by the viewer.

One study done at http://dspace.wrlc.org/bitstream/1961/4116/1/Michael%20Keefe-Feldman%20Thesis.pdf concluded “the presence of
the news ticker is significantly negatively correlated with viewer comprehension of main story information. “

“News” channels are ostensibly in the business of providing information to their viewers. Yet their preferred method of presenting that information undercuts their stated purpose.

That tells me something important about the seriousness of their missions.

That way Barack and Hillary can say they were willing to debate on Fox but Fox would not agree to be Fair and Balanced.

    Comment by scytherius — February 6, 2008 @ 2:39 pm

Unfortunately, Fox News is very well watched which is what makes them so dangerous. They will likely pull off something similar to the swift-boating of Kerry against Hillary or Obama, and it will likely be successful. BTW, in polls McCain actually beats Clinton but not Obama. While I hate to admit it, the Dems could easily lose a Clinton / McCain matchup. The posturing of the far-right against McCain actually helps him as it makes independents (the key to the election) think he’s not THAT far to the right.

So, we now have Hillary trying to appease the right by agreeing to appear on Fox News. I hope you can all get used to this pandering to the right wing. You can forget about hearing strong progressive messages from the candidate we’re all being told we need to vote for. Hillary will move farther and farther to the right. She’s already too far in that direction for me.

While I was out in the streets protesting the Iraq war, Hillary was voting for it. She voted for many more rounds of funding on it. (Except the latest simply because of its unpopularity.) While I viewed the Patriot Act with disgust, Hillary was voting for it. I’m very concerned about global warming. Has Hillary given us an idea of how she hopes to deal with this issue?

Hillary or McCain – Is that a choice or an idea of how impotent our national electoral system is?

  46. bernard quatermass says:

“Unfortunately, Fox News is very well watched which is what makes them so dangerous.”

Yes. I can’t stand to watch them because my flesh immediately begins to crawl and my nose to crinkle at the unabashed, unrepentant, crass yellow journalism … but I know people who watch that stuff.

If there are any science fiction fans in the house, C. M. Kornbluth’s satire “The Marching Morons” has never been more applicable than it is today.

Since that time I have grown a lot, and learned a lot; I no longer suffer from the false consensus bias and can see things from other people’s point of view. This false consensus bias also usually exhibits the fact that most people tend to assume that those who don’t agree with them have something wrong with them. Add to this her current effort to include Florida and Michigan delegates at the convention after previously agreeing she wouldn’t, and I think one gets a pretty clear idea of who she is – and what she values. 100. Saint Augustine says:

Kind of undercuts an argument against name-calling when you call the name-callers names, don’t you think?

You are right ralph. Sorry, I have now offically stopped. ( and to think I know better than to engage trolls, must be the meds)

Given the course of the conversation, Auggie (if I may be so familiar), your responses were entirely justified.

  102. Saint Augustine says:

Thanks ralph, Auggie is fine. I had bad vibes running through me after hearing from my friend in Maryland whose son was injured in Iraq and who just found out today that she has cancer. She has a standing invitation to come to Frorida but she is also caring for her husband who has major medical problems also, but no insurance.

    Dear Think Progress,

    Why write about these DICKS?
IGNORE Faux. Stop giving them ANY coverage / added exposure!
C’mon! Knock it off. They don’t exist. Forget ‘em.

  104. Vinnie says:

What annoys me most about a lot of the trolls is how so many threads become about themselves. I don’t know about the rest of you but I could absolutely care less about all of the things that our buddy Ike has said about himself.

  105. zuch says:

Maybe O’Lielly wants to get the Minnesota Senatorial candidate on too. I hear that line-up worked wonders for the big bully O’Lielly the last time they squared off

And isn’t it just like O’Lielly to threaten his “guests” before the even come on the show.

Maybe Obama and Clinton can come too and castrate him live on national television … well, more than he’s already been bobbed….

    Cheers,

  106. msirt says:

Make a deal: Obama & Clinton go to Fox if McCain & Huck agree to a debate on Comedy Central

  107. woodguy says:

WTF are you talking about? You asked me when I turn 7. WTF kind of an argument would I mount to that?

    Comment by Ike_Skelton — February 6, 2008 @ 5:59 pm

It would be the only thing you’ve mounted in a long time, I suspect.

  108. racom says:

Better watch your back Barack, O’moron will sic the fox news police on you. He is through with all you haters of America.

  109. owlbear1 says:

Oooh! What are ya gonna do? Compare Sen. Clinton to Hitler? Speculate about Obama’s last name bein only ONE letter different than Osama?

    Planning on knee-capping anybody, Billy?

Ya know Billy, you really sound like an abusive drunk with your threats.

  110. jsokolow says:

Why on earth should Democrats feel compelled to be set up for trashing on GOP-TV? Fox News is about as fair and balanced as Pravda or Izvestia were. The die-hard GOP base that lives on Fox won’t vote for Democrats anyway. Let them watch a real news channel if they want to see a debate.

  111. nerakami says:

Fox News compares itself with Al Qaeda… nothing else needs to be said.

  112. scytherius says:

Can there be anything MORE pathetic than Bill O’Reilly and Pravda News? The answer, btw, is “no”. I mean I don’t know a soul in this world, and I know a LOT of people, on all sides of the aisle who don’t think O’Reilly is the world’s biggest joke and that there is no “news” at Faux News.

But, as has been said before, let them rave on ’cause the world KNOWS they are mad.

  113. Ohg Rea Tone says:

Fox New is a part of the Un-holy alliance between devil worshipers and politicians.

  115. David92130 says:

If Hillary has already agreed to the FauxNoise “debate” Obama will be trashed if he doesn’t go along. Instead, the Obama camp should agree but only under this condition: a) Two rounds (international and domestic) consisting of 20 minutes uninterrupted opening remarks by each candidate followed by 10 minute uninterrupted rebuttals by each candidate, b) 20 minutes (or less) of questions limited to ONLY what had been said in the foregoing hour, c) 15 minutes closing comments from each candidate. If Obama insists on this type of format and FauxNoise refuses, he has legitimate cover whereas if FauxNoise agrees, he and Hillary are both free to present their respective arguments relatively insulated from what will otherwise be a colossal farce.

  116. Ricl077 says:

    Democrats are cowards.
