Romney: Dem victory would ‘mean attacks on America.’»

During his withdrawal speech at CPAC today, former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney claimed that an electoral victory by either Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) or Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) “would mean attacks on America” because he says they would “retreat, declare defeat.” “About this, I have no doubt,” added Romney. Watch it:

Screenshot

Romney’s parting shot is reminiscent of Vice President Dick Cheney’s claim in 2004 that America would “get hit again” if voters made “the wrong choice” and elected Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) president.

UPDATE: Romney aides suggest he may run again in 2012.

Well we have to admit this worked wonders in 2004. But this kind of nonsense has run its course in 2008, and will not fly next November.

Let them use this kind of attack all they want. These guys are politically bankrupt (not to mention morally, ethically, ideologically, you name it), which is plainly clear for all to see.

Oh, I don’t doubt that there will be an attack on the US if the Democrats win the election, Romney. After all, it was a Republican administration that set the mujadeen (I know I spelled that wrong…) on the Soviets, and you guys think the Democrats are the American branch of the Soviet Union.

But you better be clever. Too early, and the sheeple ™ won’t accept that it was Hillary or Obama’s fault. Too late and a competent Democratic administration will stop the attacks. This could backfire too — if the Democrats manage to find the perps and put them away, you could have another WTC 1993 attack, which most people don’t blame on Clinton and many credit Clinton’s administration with competence on handling the aftermath. Last thing you need to do is give the Democratic party a chance to show their competency again…and starkly contrast to your party’s incompetence in the wake of WTC 2001…

    Oh, yeah. See ya, has-been….

What a stupid comment. The attacks occurred because the Clintonian politics of appeasement don’t work. But, don’t take my word for it, read the Congressional report on the 9/11 attack. I just looked up some cause of death statistics. I’d post the links here, but I looked at quite a few sites.

Guess what? Even if we had a terrorist attack of the magnitude of 9/11 EVERY SINGLE YEAR in this country, I run a far greater risk of being killed by a drunk driver, a handgun, an injury caused by a fall, drowning, fire/smoke inhalation, being poisoned, or having a medical procedure/surgery go horribly wrong (actually, that last one about medical procedures runs about the same as having a 9/11 once a year). Yet our country not only has never gone to war in another country over these things, we don’t even do that much to fight them here at home.

And Romney has now joined the fearmongering bandwagon with Cheney and Giuliani in telling us that terrorism is the biggest threat to our existence. Not to suggest that terrorism isn’t a bad thing — it most certainly IS — but I refuse to buy into the political crap angle of it.

I think that Romney made a deal but it wasn’t for the VP spot. That will go to Huckleberry because McCain needs the rapture right in his corner. I think the deal was made with the RNC. I bet they try really hard to steer votes to Huckabee to try to derail McCain. Then, if they can do that, perhaps they can pick Romney at their convention. I don’t know if their convention works the same as the Democrats with “super delegates” but I’ll bet my milkshake that the RNC is trying desperately to find a way to derail McCain.

Did you ever explain why, if Huckabee is already President-Elect, that we need to even bother with the fuss and hassle of an election?

Second question — when is Huckabee going to make this grand sprint? Assuming that we WILL have an election instead of merely an anointing, Huckabee will first have to secure the Republican nomination. McCain already has over 60% of the delegates he needs to get the GOP nomination on the first ballot. Huckabee has only 16%. He’d better get moving.

Just the guy I was looking for! I continue to be concerned for my soul as per our shellfish discussion in which you continue to foresake me but I was wondering what you will do when Huckabee fails to win the nomination and the presidency. Since you failed to heed my advice not to claim that God had ordained this, I strongly suggest that you consider falling back on “God works in mysterious ways”. This is a tried and true escape clause whenever the faithful are wrong which seems to be the usual case. I suggested this the other day but you weren’t about so my apologies to the others. I just think so highly of you Daryll that I want to make sure you have a good exit strategy. Oh yeah, I also think the hunger strike is ill adviced

Perhaps you are right. Romney may not get the VP spot. But, I just cannot see the RNC pulling off a McCain upset. Huckabee is, in my opinion, just too much of a holy-roller to do well in a general election. (Evangelicals scare me way more than Mormons.) I think McCain is in.

I am actually more worried about McCain come November than I was about Romney. There are many con-suck-a-tives I know who are READY to vote for an opposition candidate such as Obama, but, will choose McCain instead because he is just “liberal” enough for them to appease their guilty GOP consciences.

Oh, oh…Here comes Daryll. A bible in one hand, a waterboard in the other - just like God wants it.

The religious right is the most hypocritial group of losers ever to walk the earth. More divorces, more suicides, more domestic abuse, lower education, lower standard of living, more alcoholism and prescription drug abuse. All the things which gives Daryll and his crowd that warm fuzzy feeling.

If God does exist, he/she wouldn;t appreciate your way of doing things Daryll.

  155. Marie Says:

Not only did a Republican administration ignore all the warning signals, but the attack on America occurred on their watch. Seven years later, OBL is still “on the run” according to Bush&Co, perhaps because they believe it validates their perpetual warmongering.

Romney (and McCain) will attempt to use the terror card again and again against Dems, claiming that no attacks for 7 years means they’re right.
They conveniently forget that the attack that occurred in the first month of a Democratic administration (1993) was resolved with intelligence and police work; the perpetrators were caught, tried and imprisoned. (The previous Bush administration wasn’t blamed.)

Insofar as the attack on the Cole (which did not occur on domestic soil) in late 2000, it was not until the end of the year when the mastermind was identified. Bush was told of the information and Bush&Co chose to ignore the pursuit.

The repugs do NOT have a good record on security, but they continue to say they do and people continue to believe it.

  156. Marie Says:

A mcCain Huckleberry ticket will present a challenge for the Dems. There are enough old warmongers and holyrollers to support their ticket, added to the voters who will come out to vote against Hillary.
(BTW, does anyone ever say why they hate Hillary so much? What is she guilty of?)
I believe this is another reason to elect Obama as nominee - he has the best chance of beating the repugs.

  157. Ret. Col. Jack Ripper Says:

Let us pray that Daryll is ultimately successful in convincing his fellow religious fanatics to vote for Huckleberry, a man who as Governor of Arkansas, worked personally to get a rapist released from prison who went on to murder two women in a neighboring state. Hey, if this isn’t a problem for Huckleberry, the mainstream media should be asked why?

  158. Ret. Col. Jack Ripper Says:

Marie: “BTW, does anyone ever say why they hate Hillary so much? What is she guilty of?”

She’s guilty of being the object of an 16-year slime-thowing fest by vile right wingers. She’s guilty of being hated by elitist media pundits who bought into this slimefest for years and now would like to cover their tracks. And people who “just have a feeling” about Hillary Clinton are guilty of being moronic tools who have allowed themselves to be brainwashed by this slimefest and the media’s cooperation with it. Now, I actually think there are cogent arguments against Clinton, but when I hear someone say they “just have a feeling” or they “don’t think she’s authentic,” or they “think she’s lying,” I just want to throw a big cream pie in their face.

“(CBS) An American businesswoman was carted off to jail by religious police in Saudi Arabia for sitting with a male colleague at a Starbucks in Riyadh, the Times of London reported.

The woman, who spent a day behind bars, was strip-searched and forced to sign a false confession before being released, the newspaper said. The Times declined to publish her name at her request.

The 37-year-old businesswoman works for a finance company in Riyadh. Her problem began when her office lost electricity. She and her male colleagues then went to a nearby Starbucks to use the coffee shop’s Internet connection.

She sat with a male colleague in the Starbucks’ family area, the only place women are allowed to sit with men.

“Some men came up to us with very long beards and white dresses. They asked ‘Why are you here together?’ I explained about the power being out in our office. They got very angry and told me what I was doing was a great sin,” she told the Times.
