Fox News host Bill O’Reilly has repeatedly disputed John Edwards’s claim that there are “100 to 200 homeless Americans” living under a bridge in New Orleans. On Jan. 30, O’Reilly said:
Now, we called the Edwards campaign and asked where exactly is that bridge so we could help those people. … Just tell me where the bridge is. We will help those people. They can’t tell me. OK.
As it turns out, one concerned citizen answered O’Reilly’s request and videotaped those homeless Americans. (Here’s a map of their location.) Hopefully, O’Reilly will live up to his promise to help them, unlike the way he recently snubbed homeless veterans.
gee, I wonder when the personal responsibility rhetoric will spew from the right?
February 8th, 2008 at 12:50 pmWhy are we wasting time on this?
O’Reilly will never ever admit that he was wrong, especially when he is, in fact, wronger than most people ever get in their lifetime. Personal accountibility is not something that is high on the list of positive traits of right wing media ’stars’ and, apparently, their listeners.
If you swear at a pig for being a pig, and expect the other pigs to rebel against said pig… you’re not going to get much response.
February 8th, 2008 at 12:51 pmTP — I think you have a typo. I believe Edwards claimed about 200,000 homeless veterans, not 200.
But the actual number doesn’t matter. Bill O’Reilly isn’t a big enough man to admit he was wrong in the first place, and he will cower and hide from anyone with evidence of homeless veterans — in much the same embarrassing way that Dubya hid from Cindy Sheehan rather than talk to her.
February 8th, 2008 at 12:52 pmLooks like there could be more of those homeless veterans soon:

February 8th, 2008 at 12:52 pmhopefully, O’Reilly will live up to his promise to help them,
Only if it involves a vibrator, and falafel!
February 8th, 2008 at 12:53 pmO’reilly just tells many viewers what they want to hear, “all is wonderful, our vets are treated great, this administration is protecting you, the republican party will never let a woman or a black become president. So just go play your Bingo.
February 8th, 2008 at 12:58 pmmissmolly, you’re confusing two claims. Edwards did in fact claim that there were upwards of 200,000 homeless veterans in the U. S.
This particular story, however, is about the homeless community living under a bridge in New Orleans that O’Reilly claimed did not exist because his producers couldn’t find it.
February 8th, 2008 at 12:58 pmSo Southern Mantaste,
February 8th, 2008 at 1:06 pmwho were those that showed up at Fox? I’m assuming you think they weren’t vets. And I’m also assuming you wouldn’t have the cajones to say it to their face!
Comment by Southern Man — February 8, 2008 @ 1:03 pm
It’s a different story, dingleberry. Read the links.
February 8th, 2008 at 1:07 pm#10 – Comment by DRxJ — February 8, 2008 @ 1:06 pm
You’ve got to give Southern Man a break. He doesn’t cogitate very well, and when O’Reilly changes his story halfway through, it’s going to take Southern Man a while to catch up to the actual story line!
February 8th, 2008 at 1:09 pmWhy do conservatives hate the troops?
February 8th, 2008 at 1:09 pmHere you go, Southern Man:
Attacking Edwards, O’Reilly baselessly suggested New Orleans homeless encampment doesn’t exist
Summary: Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly baselessly suggested that a homeless encampment under an overpass in New Orleans that former Sen. John Edwards mentioned in a speech did not exist, saying, “[W]e called the Edwards campaign and asked where exactly is that bridge so we could help those people. Apparently, they don’t know or they wouldn’t tell us. The Edwards campaign can’t pinpoint the bridge.” Numerous media outlets have reported recently on a large encampment of homeless people under an overpass in downtown New Orleans.
February 8th, 2008 at 1:10 pm#15 – “Why do conservatives hate the troops?” Comment by robbez_92107 — February 8, 2008 @ 1:09 pm
Could it be that conservatives refuse to serve their country, so they are incapable of relating to the troops mindset?
February 8th, 2008 at 1:12 pmSheehan. Speaking of her, where is she today? Oh that’s right, the left used her up and spit her out right after the dems won the house and senate.
Comment by Southern Mantaste — February 8, 2008 @ 1:08 pm
WARNING: What you’ve just witnessed is considered “projection”. Any further confrontation with Mantaste will continue his derailing by throwing out other false observations.
February 8th, 2008 at 1:12 pmRemember, one must consider the source, before engaging.
Thank you.
And have a wonderful day!
Southernman – From the VA there are estimated 200,000 homeless vets check for yourself. But even if there were 100 that is too many. These people believed a lie and now are trying to find a life again. You try being shot at and watching your buddies die day after day and see how your mind holds up. As for the help, did you bother watching the hearings last March explaining how disabilities were held up, treatment held up. Were you proud of how this Nation treated the vets then ?
February 8th, 2008 at 1:13 pmSouthern Man really needs to get his own facts straight. Let me see if I can put some information out…
The original story i about homeless veterans living on the streets in America. Bill O’Reilly demanded that someone prove that there are homeless vets living on the streets in America. What do you know, they found some in New Orleans.
But that’s not good enough for SM. Of course, this trollish sack of s**t will say that TP is lieing even if they find 199,999 verifiable homeless vets. And if they find 250,000, he’ll scream that 50,000 of them are disallowed on technicalities.
SM doesn’t care about the troops. He only cares about his master, Dubya, and his master, Cheney. If he did care about the troops, ONE homeless vet would be too many. He’d be saying: “OK, O’Reilly, live up to your promise now” like the rest of us. But no, he’s a lieing sack of $#!+ who only cares about dissing liberals.
How compassionate of him.
February 8th, 2008 at 1:14 pmHere here, texaslady, here here!
February 8th, 2008 at 1:14 pmReally, nothing more needs to be said!
Bravo!
There are no Young Republicans serving in the military, they all have “other priorities”. You know, sprained ankle, asthma, canker sore on ass.
February 8th, 2008 at 1:15 pmI’d pay top dollar to see Billo go down to that bridge and take a paramilitary beat-down from those homeless vets.
February 8th, 2008 at 1:18 pmThe Young R’s are way too busy date-raping and drug-dealing to go to Iraq.
February 8th, 2008 at 1:19 pm#20 Comment by texaslady — February 8, 2008 @ 1:13 pm
texaslady — don’t waste your breath with Southern goober — he has his super-duper dilithium crystal powered, reality and truth denying force field turned on to maximum power. The only thing able to penetrate it is am hate radio transmissions — Limpballs, Insannity, SavageWeiner, etc. — trying to talk reason and truthfulness to the Soutern goober is the equivalent of firing rubber bands at an M1 Abrams tank.
February 8th, 2008 at 1:21 pmSorry, there is one YR, McCain’s son recently went to Iraq, curious as to where he is stationed.
February 8th, 2008 at 1:23 pmhey dixieboy – what lies you tellin’ t’day, bro?
how’s things in Sopranoland?
February 8th, 2008 at 1:24 pm#27 – There are some bush people who are seeing the light, maybe enough facts will change some more minds.
February 8th, 2008 at 1:26 pmSouthern Man,
February 8th, 2008 at 1:41 pmThank you for taking time to help our homeless Vets.
since you’re a serial liar, dixie, i don’t find it surprising no one wants to play nice with you.
you’re not good at this blogging thing. try and find another outlet for your pathologies.
February 8th, 2008 at 1:43 pmMantaste, the projection was not of Cindy Sheehan, but this:
the left used her up and spit her out right after the dems won the house and senate.
Comment by Southern Mantaste — February 8, 2008 @ 1:08 pm
Please show me where the “left ” used her up and spit her out.
February 8th, 2008 at 1:48 pmOtherwise, pure projection.
NEXT
choose to live under the Claiborne overpass, where many of our homeless who choose to live on the streets have been fo decades.
Comment by Southern Man — February 8, 2008 @ 1:31 pm
“A homeless Vietnam veteran whose body was found beneath an Iowa City bridge had been turned away just days before from a Veterans Affairs center and the Johnson County jail.”
http://www.kcrg.com/news/local/11640976.html
There is no f-king excuse in the world to make this right, for ANY citizen to be kicked out into the cold to DIE, much less someone who risked it all for this country. While we sent billions overseas to prop up dictators.
You do not see anything wrong with this at all do you? You think everything is just great with America.
I volunteer with a local shelter and take food donations for the kitchen. Too many people are kicked to the streets, discarded and unemployed.
And they die on those streets while chimpy-humping Jesus People pass them by with their noses wrinkled in faux superiority.
There is something very wrong with this country and the heart of what is wrong is what is in the hearts of people such as you.
February 8th, 2008 at 2:05 pm
After O’Lielly’s comments I emailed him and told him that if he really wanted to help, he’d send us- Central Oregon Veterans Outreach- 3 million so we could build a shelter and get the 300-400 vets we know are homeless…off the streets. He never responded.
February 8th, 2008 at 2:15 pm“Hopefully, O’Reilly will live up to his promise to help them”
Of course none of us expect him to do this. I’m guessing you are trying give him the benefit of the doubt, but it makes you look a little too optimistic. If you want to avoid sounding pessimistic too, maybe you could rephrase it this way:
“This gives O’Reilly another change to live up to his promise to help them”
February 8th, 2008 at 2:18 pmI feel sorry for her, and what some did to use her for their gain. She lost her son, helped a movement, and then became irrelevant to the people she once thought were her friends. A very sad story.
Comment by Southern Man — February 8, 2008 @ 2:04 pm
She got tired of the hypocritical Congressional Democratic Leadership that is sitting with their thumbs inserted in their posteriors, not enforcing Rule of Law, like many of the rest of the population.
Nice try though, you heartless &%#$.
February 8th, 2008 at 2:20 pmDang. That is one hell of a hallucination that occurs every time I drive around the Claiborne overpass. I keep seeing tents and homeless people.
February 8th, 2008 at 2:23 pmMaybe O Reilly considers a tent a home?
Believe me Wayne, I know.
Comment by Southern Man — February 8, 2008 @ 2:17 pm
Then why are you defending O’liely?
Why the hell do you defend the Bush Administration?
If you know, supporting the agendas that are the cause is mindboggling?
February 8th, 2008 at 2:23 pmCindy Sheehan is running for congress in Pelosi’s district.
February 8th, 2008 at 2:30 pmI do the same volunteer work as well. Mostly for veterans.
Comment by Southern Man — February 8, 2008 @ 2:17 pm
One of my friends, a quadriplegic veteran in a wheelchair was kicked out by Bush’s VA, to live in the streets. I made him stay with me until we found some family in another state that had no idea he had been abandoned.
I have no earthly idea how any veteran could every support these heartless criminals that inhabit the White House.
February 8th, 2008 at 2:33 pmI guess I am not as open minded as I thought I was, because I just cannot even fathom the screwed up logic it would take.
I am sickened by what our country has done to our veterans. Since WW11, they have been treated worse than third world countries veterans. They deserve the best health care, period!
Comment by Southern Man
This is new……..thanks for expressing the senitment SM…I hope you are sincere.
all should see the movie…….born on the 4th of July
abuse of American vets goes back to WWI bonus’s and probably further than that.
February 8th, 2008 at 2:48 pmI don’t support everything the Bush administration does.
Comment by Southern Man — February 8, 2008 @ 2:35 pm
After my sister was kicked off medical by the politicized review boards and her husband had to re-enlist, get sent back to Iraq leaving his disabled wife and 2 sons, in order to cover her medical, because he could not find a job with insurance, I cannot support this administration at all.
If family had not been there for my sister, if she wasn’t married, she would be another veteran kicked to the street, legally blind and diabetic because part of her pancreas and liver are gone. All because she dared to serve this country and was unlucky enough to serve under Gee Dubya Bush.
Support the troops, my ass…..
February 8th, 2008 at 3:11 pmWhere is Cindy these days Dr? It’s my observation. The projection and false observation argument is a very weak one. I love how nobody answered my question or knows what happend to Cindy. I heard that Randi Rhodes ate her.
Comment by Southern Man — February 8, 2008 @ 1:40 pm
Cindy Sheehan is running for Representative, you moron. Jesus, how do you remember to breathe in between your lies and hissy fits?
February 8th, 2008 at 4:47 pmMy seven year ols wants to know.

February 8th, 2008 at 4:48 pmComment by Southern Man — February 8, 2008 @ 1:31 pm
that’s very commendable of you for your service! unfortunately, I think O’Reilly is more talk than action, but it will be interesting to see if he comes through…
February 8th, 2008 at 4:50 pmThey don’t exist to Bill O’Reilly because in the unlikely chance he ever goes to New Orleans it’ll be via a limo to the French Quarter.
At this rate he might not acknowledge Africa exists.
Someone should get him to unwittingly watch City of God and not be able to stop watching, if nothing else, or some other movie about the “other” neighborhoods and the poor.
February 8th, 2008 at 5:23 pmThe 100 – 200 is from the Edwards quote about the number of homeless sleeping under the bridge in New Orleans, “under a bridge that carried the interstate where 100 to 200 homeless Americans sleep every night.”
The 200,000 is the number of homeless veterans on any given night in America according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, “Current population estimates suggest that about 195,000 veterans (male and female) are homeless on any given night and perhaps twice as many experience homelessness at some point during the course of a year.”
February 9th, 2008 at 2:09 amO’Reilly takes a dangerous daily drug called ‘ anti-truth’ and he is not the only one in the media who uses and abuses this drug’. This warmonger strikes me as A BIG MOUTH backed by A VERY LIMITED INTELLIGENCE!
Suicides are on the rise among Veterans and some end up homelesses, that is the plain truth !! they don’t deserve to be treated this way….shame shame shame !Now Neocons are giving soldiers in Irak and Afganistan PILLS that’ll erase ALL EMOTIONS from them when killing : NO EMOTIONS=no regrets= a soldier can even kill an innocent civilian without feeling anything= Stripping the smallest drip of humanity from the soldiers!
Turning soldiers into EMOTIONLESS ZOMBIES?
No wonder more and more soldiers desert the army and ENLISTING is at all time LOW! RON PAUL FOREVER!!
