DeLay: I can’t run for President because I’m indicted.

After Sen. John McCain’s (R-AZ) CPAC speech yesterday, Huffington Post’s Sam Stein spoke to former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, who complained that McCain “didn’t address his record.” Asked by Stein “if he himself would run” for president, DeLay replied: “I don’t think somebody who’s indicted ought to run for president.” DeLay, who resigned from Congress in 2006, is currently facing two charges of money laundering and conspiring to launder money.

    Dear Tom;

    Follow these instructions carefully.

Get your bug spraying apparatus fully loaded and charged.

Insert tip of sprayer wand deep into mouth.

    Activate.

Good god! The man actually has a scruple!

I think before DeLay starts worrying about the specks in McCain's eye, he needs to first remove the mote from his own.

But to his other point -- I don't think there's anything in the Constitution forbidding an indicted person from running for President. (It would, however, be a waste of money because I doubt such a person would get enough support to make a run worthwhile.)

On the other hand, if said indicted person was convicted and jailed, then showing up for the inauguration might be difficult...

If he has any scruples, you can bet that they belong to somebody else...

Or he thinks that it's not allowed. I'm sure that will change however.

Any Hollywood script writer who even suggested this story would be laughed out of town. Every time you think they can't Possibly come up with a more innane, senseless idea, the strike boldly out for a new, even more ludicrous low. Have these people absolutely No shame???

Eugene Debs ran for President while in jail; did pretty well, too. I think what Bugkiller meant was, "I don't think my crime buddies would give a pig-eyed, face-lifted, smarmy bit of slug-slime like me ten million dollars to amass seven votes."

DeLay: I can’t run for President because I’m indicted.

Tell that to the idiots like the drooling Tweety Mathews that keep inviting your criminal ass to give political advice on the magic sparkle box.

No, it was just a brain fart. No scruple there, just stinky hot air.

How is this scumbag out free and not in jail? He didn't even get the Libby get-out-of-jail-free card.

  15. ralph the wonder llama Says:

Well, at least he admits that he's indicted.

RUCerious, I think you chose the wrong end for the apparatus.

i hope this is the last time i have to read or see anything about that p.o.s. ever.

the country's barometer indicates impending doom and disintegration as long as sh*tsacks such as "the hammer"(aka "the tool") get any press.

  19. Buck Says:

DeLay's reply was commendable (hey, a republican spoke a moment of truth - wow!).

The real question here is, WHY did Sam Stein feel the need to ask such a stupid question???

  20. Sachem Says:

....and if convicted will lose his right to vote. Godspeed.

  21. missmolly Says:

So nice that DeLay has the excuse that he's indicted. If he didn't, he'd have to come up with something else. He knows that his particular brand of politics ain't gonna fly much outside of Texas.

How was it a "stupid question"?

Yeah, I concur, exactly how is that a "stupid question"?

Funny thing about that, it has carried in every red state for the last 12 years, not just the deliberately gerrymandered and voter caged Texas.

  26. shoeless Says:

Is DeLay saying he can't serve two terms at once?

  27. scytherius Says:

Oh PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let him run. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  28. ronlawhouston Says:

Man, not only is he sleazy, he's also delusional. Right, President DeLay.

  29. natisman Says:

So is he saying he is guilty of what he did?

  30. shoeless Says:

Go fo it if you want Tom.

    Comment by Gin

Yeah, go fo it Tom. As you can see, the dumbasses of America support you.

  31. aquarius2 Says:

Why oh Why is this man not behind bars? He talks about his being "indicted" like it is a badge of honor.

  32. flavorino Says:

Among the many weird things about Delay is he has those grandma, old woman features like he has almost no testosterone in him.

There seems to be very weird compensation thing going on with a lot of these right wingers. Look at how many are overly effeminate, not that there's any wrong with that in itself, it's the pathological reaction/compensation thing that's done so much damage to our government/ country/ economy/etc, Gonzales, his #2 guy, Rove, HIS #2 guy....etc, etc
I can't recall all the names but there are others. Maybe some got picked on as kids, maybe some are driven by fear of people seeing their true nature, but there's definitely a weird psychology behind these guys.
Bush, himself seems to be compensating too. There ARE rumors about our former cheerleader/president.

Delay is also an ex-drunk like Bush and Cheney (Dick probably still hits the bottle, who would know?).
I guess birds of a feather......

  33. LibertyLover Says:

LOL. His Campaign would be shorter than Tom Tancredo's.
