Blunt brags about blocking health care ‘for more kids.’

Speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference yesterday, House Minority Whip Roy Blunt (R-MO) bragged about the “accomplishments” of conservatives in Congress in 2007, including the blocking of “an expansion of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program,” which he complained would “expand from a program for poor kids to a ‘program for more kids‘” (sub. req’d).

Re,e,ber. Republicans are NOT humans. And the knuckle-draggers buy the talking points about “the public dole”. They are too damned dumb to realize that even from a solely economic view it saves the nation money. And of course to make sure a sick or dying child gets help, well, compassion is a foreign emotion for the Repug mouth breathers. And, sadly, they are too damned dumb to be educated.

  2. marlow says:

Yes, I agree. We do better when children die. We need that money for killing in Iraq anyway. By the way, when was the last multi-billion dollar corporate bailout?

  3. Lefty Patriot says:

As for compassion, studies consistently demonstrate that conservatives give much more to charity than liberals do.

    Comment by Pat2 — February 9, 2008 @ 10:20 pm

that’s just another lie, which you can’t back up with any facts. Bush is vey happy to starve children and deny them healthcare, because he’s a born and bred coward, and will take advantage any time of the weaker and smaller. Of course, you, as a pathetic coward yourself, can cheer on the deaths of Americans at home and abroad, proving yourself a traitor just like the presidunce. By the way, how has he explained his homosexual realtionship with the prostitute Gannon?

  4. Lefty Patriot says:

If the Democrats succeed in forcing surrender to the terrorists in Iraq, lots of innocent Iraqis, including children, will die. So save your sanctimony.

    Comment by Pat2 — February 9, 2008 @ 10:22 pm

bush already surrendered to Bin Laden, aceding to all of his demands, allowing him to escape and preventing his capture and trial, so all the deaths in iraq are on Bush’s hands, including the murder of 4000 American troops. Of course, ou’re happy about that, because you’re just another sick cultist.

  5. Lefty Patriot says:

These studies are readily available on the Internet. Liberals are “generous” only with other people’s money.

  15. Lefty Patriot says:

Come on, pat2, you can certainly tell us why Jeff Gannon, a known male prostitute, spent many, many nights in the White House, can’t you? You calling me insane doesn’t go very far in explaining that fact; the Shite House and George Bush played host to overnight visits by a male prostitute. that’s a simple, documented fact. Tell us why.

  16. Lefty Patriot says:

Republicans are not humans because they are thousands of years behind on the evolutionary scale. they are near-humans, or sub-humans. Their inability to solve problems without killing large numbers of people put them on the same evolutionary point as primitve savages who are just discovering fire and language. Bush’s apelike posture and his insistence on solving all problems with bombs and guns demonstrates how far behind real humans republicans are.

Not that pat2 will understand these concepts, being an ignorant primitive herself.

  23. Lefty Patriot says:

Well, let’s see how many more Americans the republicans can murder with their policies. Children are fair game now; the weakest among us. Typical republican behavior to starve kids to death so they can have a few more bucks for their homosexual hookers.

  24. The Republic of Stupidity says:

Oh, I stand corrected — you claim that no one is denying children health care. To be precise, you’re right the Republicans are denying them health coverage. Not the actual care, just the ability to pay for it if something catstrophic, or even moderately serious, should happen to them.

So I guess we can assume that you give your seal of approval to such sentiments as “Bush and Cheney and their fat fu(k friends are much, much richer” and “You cannot justify this insane war of aggression and endless occupation”

Okay then. We finally have reached some common ground.

Baloney. Gonzo tried to make that case, and he was laughed at by the countries’ leading legal scholars. Notice they didn’t try to take the matter to the Supremes. I wonder why?

  95. green says:

Thanks Pat – I’ll take that as a compliment!

Well, I’d say that pat, in her pathetic attempts to put lipstick on the ugliest Goddamn pig I’ve seen in a long while has moved the conversation pretty far afield. Children who need care will not get it, to the pride of another fat wealthy rethug scumbag. Record number of filibusters from the party that used to snivel about “up-and-down” votes when the dems were in the minority.

Isn’t it kind of weird how right-wingers always forget to include the role of the Judiciary and Congress when talking about powers….and even weirder when they talk about war powers when there is no declared war to grant those powers…..just weird…weird.

  107. barfly says:

The Constitution gives the president the power to gather intelligence against our enemies in wartime as commander in chief. T

IT sure as hell does. Clear the icicles out of your brain and you just might see it.

We’ll see what lasting powers the commander in chief retains, in the opinion of rethugs, if and when a dem is sworn in. My guess is it’ll be a different story at that point. We’ll be hearing about the black helicopters again.

  115. barfly says:

    Prove it.

    Comment by Pat2

The constitution explicitly states that decaring war is an act of congress. There is nothing in the constitution about an “authorization to use force,” Mr. Strict constructionist.

  116. ralph the wonder llama says:

Fascinating how Pat Small Pair uses the “Prove it” line as if it’s some sort of light saber that will cut through any argument, but then pays no attention to the proofs offered, and even more curious, is compeltely oblivious when the same challenge is turned back on him.

  117. barfly says:

    You’re arguing semantics. lame.

  118. Its Pat says:

I looked at one of these studies Pat wants us to “learn” from. It would be interesting if they could provide a breakdown of where this “charitable” giving by “compassionate” conservatives is going, Pat? Of course, no such breakdown is given and what is considered “charity” for tax purposes is an absolute joke. Does Ted Haggard’s ministry come to mind? Benny Hinn? Conservative “think” tanks? Tom Delay’s Defense Fund (Yes! This is considered a gift by the IRS). Hmmm…I wonder where Cheney’s gift went? It must have been for orphaned Iraqi kids, eh Pat?

  119. marlow says:

The Iraq war was begun in violation of the terms of the UN charter to which the U.S. is a signatory, and therefore a violation of federal law.

  120. ucsbclassics53 says:

Pat, while you might find studies that may prove your point, you just discredited yourself when you used that GOP talking point about how we LIBS want to sign a treaty of surrender to Osama Bin Laden. You are not interested in genuine debate, but would rather use talking points to beat us over the head with. There is no one who wants to surrender to the terrorists, but you use that talking point because it is convenient to end all debate with. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work with us, unlike how it works with the spineless, cowardly Democrats.

  121. barfly says:

The AUMF was an act of Congress.

    Comment by Pat2

It’s not spelled out that way in the Constitution.

If we are to instill in fledgling democracies respect for the rule of law, it must start with how we ourselves respect and interpret our own long-established statues and constitution, or we risk losing their ideological support, because we are exposed as hypocrites on a global scale. Why wasn’t the AUMF a straight-up declaration of war?

  122. marlow says:

    Nonsense.

I wonder how many of them used the “scientific” John Stossel study where he put out two buckets at Christmastime, one in liberal New York and one in a small, red midwestern town, and concluded based on the money collected in a single afternoon, that conservatives were more generous than liberals.

    Talk about a rigorous structure!

Mussolini was a fascist, and a socialist all his life.

    From Wikipedia:

“Fascists opposed what they believe to be laissez-faire or quasi-laissez-faire economic policies dominant in the era prior to the Great Depression.[28] People of many different political stripes blamed laissez-faire capitalism for the Great Depression, and fascists promoted their ideology as a “third way” between capitalism and Marxian socialism.[29] Their policies manifested as a radical extension of government control over the economy without wholesale expropriation of the means of production. Fascist governments nationalized some key industries, managed their currencies and made some massive state investments. They also introduced price controls, wage controls and other types of economic planning measures.[30] Fascist governments instituted state-regulated allocation of resources, especially in the financial and raw materials sectors.

Other than nationalization of certain industries, private property was allowed, but property rights and private initiative were contingent upon service to the state.[”

  199. Sabyen91 says:

Patty-cake. Did you read past the first sentence? Christ, you are stupid.

  200. pat3 says:

According to sociologist Stanislav Andreski, fascist economics “foreshadowed most of the fundamental features of the economic system of Western European countries today: the radical extension of government control over the economy without a wholesale expropriation of the capitalists but with a good dose of nationalisation, price control, incomes policy, managed currency, massive state investment, attempts at overall planning (less effectual than the Fascist because of the weakness of authority).”[44] Politics professor Stephen Haseler credits fascism with providing a model of economic planning for social democracy.[45]

Yeah, Pat, he also said Gott in Himmell. How does that work for you?

  213. The Republic of Stupidity says:

Pat3 seems to be a little confused here.

Fascism is an authoritarian political ideology (generally tied to a mass movement) that considers the individual subordinate to the interests of the state, party or society as a whole. Fascists seek to forge a type of national unity, usually based on (but not limited to) ethnic, cultural, racial, religious attributes. Various scholars attribute different characteristics to fascism, but the following elements are usually seen as its integral parts: nationalism, statism, militarism, totalitarianism, anti-communism, corporatism, populism, collectivism, autocracy and opposition to political and economic liberalism.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7]

OPPOSITION to political and economic liberalism.

When you take into account the aspects of Uber-nationalism and corporatism that are alwys present in Fascist systems, it’s pretty fair to say George Bush and the current GOOP are actually Fascists, behind the fascade. Which is why George hates liberals and unions.

Sorry, Pat, but yer jes’ a boot lickin’ little fascist flunky.

  225. Mr. Evil says:

To pat3: Socialism is basically supposed to be the people taking of themselves and taking care of each other. Some good examples of socialsim at work: Building and maintaining an infrastructure for all the people to use for their benefit such as the interstate highway system, public schools for all to have an education, building dams so we can all have electricity and provide water for irrigation and cities (Las Vegas for one), etc. So if you don’t like socialism, stop using the roads, stop using the schools and everything our taxes are supposed to pay for and provide to the very ones who pay for them. If it were all privatized like your republican rulers want guess who would have the nicest infrastructure and schools and clean water; the super-rich. The rest of us would be left with the leftover scraps and muddy puddles. Maybe you’re proud of the fact that billions of dollars go to Iraq to be divied up by Blackwater, Halliburton, Bechtel, Carlyle Group and all the other war profiteers. Their isn’t really anything bad about socialism except for the part about some corporations not profiting from it.

  226. pat3 says:

  242. Mr. Evil says:

Socialism has nothing to do with private industries nimrod. It has to do with what the state provides to its citizens with the revenue it derives primaily through a form of taxation. Giving that said revenue to corporations at their behest (what we have today in many forms) is about as close to fascism as we’ve become to date. But I guess corporate welfare is a more acceptable term for you.

The State is to care for the elevating national health by protecting the mother and child, by outlawing child-labor, by the encouragement of physical fitness, by means of the legal establishment of a gymnastic and sport obligation, by the utmost support of all organizations concerned with the physical instruction of the young.

  270. Jeremy in Denver says:

Pat3, another internet troll whose sole purpose is to derail legitimate discussion. Pat3 comes here in violation of the following section of the Terms of Use:

    You agree to:
    • Respect other Bloggers – please do not threaten, insult, abuse, intimidate or harass other Blog users.

Pat3 refuses to respect the opinions of the community, even if it disagrees with those opinions. It insults, harrasses, and attempts to intimidate other Blog users. This is in violation of the Terms of Use. That its behavior sparks regulars to violate the rules is beside the point. That is what it does.

Its disruptive ways, along with its fellow identities Southern Man, Daryll, et. al., cause legitimate right-wing commenters such as Keltoi and CaptainMantastic to suffer through much harsher criticism than they’d otherwise suffer. But this is its goal.

It is said that 10% of the politically active participants are responsible for 90% of the noise (or so I’ve heard). Our nutcases such as Arn Gunnutes and so on and the trolls such as Pat3 show this. We allow them to polarize us, to the point that we can’t even agree within our own party (see those who hate Obama and love Clinton and vice versa). It also makes well-intentioned people who are on the right side of the ideology get driven away. The best tool we have is not to take the bait from the trolls. Instead, talk about them and their foolish ideas. Attack the ideas, while mercilessly flagging them for ToS violations. Other courses of action _are_ possible, but do not let the trolls poison the well of discourse.

That is why they are here.

    Never forget it.

    Comment by Pat2 — February 9, 2008 @ 10:22 pm

An attempt to intimidate, and any reasonable person can see that this was a blatent (and successful…*sigh*) attempt to poison the discourse. Instead of calling it names, simply hold this and other posts up as an example of the nature of the right wing.

Havent’ lots of innocent Iraqis, including children, already died during Bush’s republican rule?

  287. Jeremy in Denver says:

I leave Pat3 with this final comment.

The political views of the neo-conservatives have driven moderate right-wing fiscal conservatives from their party. Many have simply given up, while others have decided to throw their lot in behind Barack Obama. A few have even endorsed Hillary Clinton, which should go a long way to making a reasonable Conservative fret over the longevity of his or her party.

I have several conservative friends and family. My father, a hard-core fiscal conservative with strong pro-military leanings, is no longer able to support the party. He feels so neglected, unable to reconcile his social libertarianism with the social authortarianism of the new Republican party. I have directed him to the Libertarian Party, and I hope he enjoys his new political home.

My godmother, a moderate with strong fiscal conservative stripes, is now an Obama Girl. So is my Mother in Law. Both are socially libertarian/liberal, and one is religious and a strong believer in the two kingdoms (Kingdom of Earth, Kingdom of Heaven).

My buddy online is now apolitical. He never would support the Democrats, and he now doesn’t know the Republicans.

    The list goes on.

Pat3 should keep it up. The more it spews, the more moderates flee its cause, and the more likely it’ll have to swallow an Obama or Clinton presidency next year.

  288. Sabyen91 says:

Patty, you have NEVER had an accurate response. You still think Naziism=Socialism. Kinda stupid if you ask me.

  289. pat3 says:

“Havent’ lots of innocent Iraqis, including children, already died during Bush’s republican rule?”

Innocent Iraqis were dying long before Bush was president. He’s trying to stop the terrorist killers. Democrats are trying to impede him.

  301. Mr. Evil says:

  302. Jeremy in Denver says:

Sabyen91, you bring up a good point. Here you can only be banned for launching personal attacks. The Mods here are pretty hands-off, in fact, sometimes TOO hands off (as Southern Man’s continued ability to post on the site shows). There, you so much as suggest that the Appointed High Powers of the Republican Party are in the wrong, you’re gone in a flash. Hell, whatever you do….*looks both ways, then whispers conspiratorially* don’t mention Ron Paul.

*jumps as Red State utters a howl of righteous indignation at the mention of the most Hated Foe of their Annointed One, Rudy Guillani…err, Mitt Romney….err, John McCain.*

Basically, if you’re a liberal there, you might as well sign your post with ‘in b4 b&’, because you’ll be gone as SOON as one of the mods stumbles across that thread.

Oh, coincidence that RedState usually has threads with single digit posts and the same 10 posters on average? I think not…

  303. Mr. Evil says:

So pat3, what would you do if another country invaded your country and started blowing up your town or city and killed your neighbors and possibly your family members too. Would you fight them or would you hand them candy and flowers? They went to Iraq to use it as the international front for fighting terrorism. By that ridiculous rationale it would mean that terrorists would have to go to Iraq first to confront the U.S. Military and if they got through them then they could go to another country and blow something up. How do you set up a front in one country to combat international terrorism? I guess it’s easy if you believe the dog and pony show of Bushco.

Can any of you REICH WINGERS out there tell us on the left what good has the BUSHCO crime family done the children and less fortunate of this country.and I mean good programs that he has not robbed from to continue raping of our once great nation???????????????????????????

  311. barfly says:

Evil, our taxes should pay for the federal government to carry out those powers enumerated in the Constitution.

Comment by pat3 — See how funny these dorks are?

Pat claims that the president has unenumerated constitutional powers, while saying the government should only carry out those things listed in the constitution. It’s “strict constructionism” for legislators, and “unenumerated powers” for his hero. The first rule of conservatism is a requirement to believe in conflicting positions, I guess.

  312. bilbobaggins says:

Congratulations folks on getting Pat2 banned, but shame on you for allowing the worthless troll to get this thread up to 400+ comments. Haven’t you learned your lesson yet?

BTW, did anyone figure out which of our banned trolls Pat2 was? I don’t want to read all 400 posts to find out.

  313. bilbobaggins says:

Wow, I see by reading backwards that pat2 magically became pat3 when pat2 was banned.

Think Progress: Wake up, this is proof positive why you need to ban trolls by their IP address and not by their e-mail address. It’s way too easy to get a new e-mail address.

  314. katy says:

    patrick/patrick1/2/3/michael/etc…

what is MOST annoying are the posters who feed…

there would be minimal trolls if they weren’t fed…

    but, you all know that…

  315. RUCerious says:

Wishing that Democrats all across the country call these obstructionist pigs out for the November election.

Sweep them into the dustbin of history, then set fire to it.

  316. RUCerious says:

katy, I hereby give notice that I’m going to make one and only one post about the troll, instead of to the troll, then go on my merry way…

  317. GL2814 says:

Come November, payback will indeed be a B*TCH for the American Nazi Party (i.e., the G.O.P.)

  318. flavorino says:

Wow, the troll did a good job
    what was this thread about?
    Oh yeah…
“Blunt brags about blocking health care ‘for more kids.’”

I’d like to make an observation:
It seems when money is to be spent on America’s children’s health, the GOP thinks it must be stopped….but if the war profiteers charge over $900,000 to ship 4 screws to Iraq (look it up)…or 8 BILLION DOLLARS just vanishes without a trace in Iraq(look it up), it’s “nothing to see here, folks..just move along….nothing going on that you need to know about, no oversight necessary just go on about your business.” That’s the GOP.

The Dems are not completely innocent and need to be monitored also, but the GOP seems to have completely lost it over the last few years…like an alcoholic turned loose in a distillery, they have become blind drunk with money and power to the point where you have to question their sanity.
Look at the GOP rats who have fled the Senate and the House, they are not there to serve, they are completely addicted to power and money. The right wing leaders and their pundits have become addicts, whether it is money, power, deficits, young boys, illicit sex, viagra, drugs (oxycotin, meth, alcohol), gambling (can’t remember the name of the fat slob that lost millions on slot machine…oh yeah Bill Bennett) etc. etc.
But, spending money on kid’s health care…oh how awful it MUST be stopped.
