Five More Advertisers Abandon Michael Savage’s Hate-Filled Radio Show

michaelsavage.jpgIn November 2007, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) kicked off a campaign urging “radio listeners of all faiths to contact companies that advertise on Michael Savage’s nationally-syndicated radio program to express their concerns” about the conservative radio host’s anti-minority tirades. Since then, Brave New Films and a coalition of interfaith leaders have joined CAIR in the campaign under the banner of Hate Hurts America.

Savage responded to the campaign by suing CAIR for copyright infringement and Fox News rose to his defense. But the advertisers have been paying attention to the Hate Hurts America initiative. On Friday, the group announced that five more advertisers have dropped “The Savage Nation”:

The Hate Hurts America Community and Interfaith Coalition (HHA) today announced that five more radio advertisers have joined a growing list of companies that have stopped advertising or refuse to place their ads on Michael Savage’s “Savage Nation” radio program.

HHA said the advertisers – ITT Technical Institute, Chattem, Inc. (owners of Gold Bond, Icy Hot, and Selsun Blue), Union Bank of California, Intuit (parent company of TurboTax and QuickBooks), and GEICO Insurance – dropped their commercials after being contacted by visitors to the newly-created “No Savage” website.

According to CAIR, “US Cellular, Sprint Nextel, Sears, Universal Orlando Resorts, AutoZone, Citrix, TrustedID, JCPenney, OfficeMax, Wal-Mart, and AT&T” have also stopped advertising on Savage’s show. Brave New Films has a list of contact info for advertisers who are continuing to advertise with Savage.

Here are a few examples of the hate Savage has spewed over the years:

- “90 percent of the people on the Nobel Committee are into child pornography and molestation.” — Michael Savage [12/12/07]

- “Notice what this double-talking slut just did, this mind-slut Barbara Walters. And I stick by those words. She’s an empty mind-slut.” — Michael Savage [3/16/07]

- Madeline Albright is “a traitor. In my opinion, she should be tried for treason, and when she’s found guilty, she should be hung.” — Michael Savage [10/9/06]

- The U.S. Senate is “more vicious and more histrionic than ever, specifically because women have been injected into” it. — Michael Savage [9/12/06]

- To “save the United States,” lawmakers should institute an “outright ban on Muslim immigration” and on “the construction of mosques.” — Michael Savage [11/27/06]

Hate Hurts America’s petition calling for advertisers to boycott Savage is here.

Frankly, the Madeline Albright sentiment is exactly the same as mine. Ok, substitute Bush for Albright.

Bush supporters use insults, smear and downright lies for their pandering. When the media does try to report truisms, they are labeled liberals. But who controls the licensing ? FCC. Who controls FCC, this administration. When the media can report without fear of reprisals we will have freedom of the press.

For someone who goes to such lengths to establish that he’s a macho, take-no-prisoners, tough guy, he certainly has a sissy little dog. I would have thought he’d parade around a Pit Bull or a Rottweiler.

What an apt metaphor for today’s faux conservatives.

Thats true, to a point, but people here dont broadcast it and profit from it, nor would I expect an advertiser to pay them either.

  16. Wayne A. Schneider says:

Michael Savage is a sick, sick man whose viewpoints are informed only by his ignorance and hatred for people not like himself. Any “success” that his radio program enjoys is proof that “the marketplace of ideas” does not always produce the best in humanity. And that’s why those free market capitalists should shut up, since they obviously have no idea what they’re talking about. Being “profitable” does not always make something “better”, and Michael Savage is proof of that.

Speak for yourself, X. I’m expecting my comments to bring big advertising doilars from George Soros any day now. Isn’t that the way it works on lefty blogs? That’s what the trolls said.

  25. BrianFL says:

This is a smart business decision by these advertisers. They can tell the country is rejecting the right-wing hate radio speech by the results in the state primaries/caucuses. They hear about exit polls just like everybody else.

When the so-called experts talk about “change” being so popular, they don’t like to put that in any context. I think what it means is the country is rejecting the old politics of hate and division and voting for the candidates who can unite our country again.

  26. texaslady says:

Savage’s slogan is To The Right of Rush…..sounds pretty conservative to me.

  27. Buckie Boy says:

You notice cancer seems to never strike these reichwing hate mongers.

    “Savage” was truly named appropriately.

His real name is Wiener and he sure is a big one.

gummitch, I wonder at times if certain comments get made here just for that reason… it’s called “a plant”, no?

I can’t believe Weiner/Savage ever had advertisers in the first place!

  44. 99Luf Balloons says:

Of course now he uses the courts to file his frivolous lawsuit against CAIR. ITs OK if you are a Repub. Copyright infringement. Grasping at straws much?

  45. slappy magoo says:

why would a story about Weiner mention Air America?

The phrase “apples and oranges” comes to mind.

Ooooooooooooohhhhhh… I get it… you’re acting foolish because you’re all dead inside! Sorry to interrupt your fun…please continue…and don’t forget to roll over once in a while to prevent bed sores!

  46. Margomac says:

Has anyone on this site seen the open op-ed letter regarding Hillary and the cozy relationship with Monsanto and frankenfood? I sent an email to her campaign asking for their response and all I got was a canned email asking for money. I am very disturbed by this information. I know the entire process has been corrupted by corporate interests, but to think that she would bed down with the scum that would sooner see people poisoned and starve then give up their profits is disgusting. Her coalition of Rural voters for Hillary is sponsored by Monsanto. I’ve tried searching the internet to debunk it, but I can’t find anything. I can not in good conscience vote for her if her agenda includes making GMO=organic foods.

  47. SgtCedar says:

For someone who goes to such lengths to establish that he’s a macho, take-no-prisoners, tough guy, he certainly has a sissy little dog.

Of course he has a wimpy little dog. How else can he feel like such a big shot.

  48. theWankler says:

    Lets see, who is worse.

    Savage or CAIR?

I put my money on CAIR. They are a hate filled front group who claim to be a Muslim Civil Liberties Group. So lets take a look at thier record, anybody?

  49. theWankler says:

For the Record: Government Reminds Court of CAIR/MAS Ties to Terrorists, Says The Investigative Project on Terrorism

    http://www.foxbusiness.com/article/record-government-reminds-court-cair2fmas-ties-terrorists-says-investigative_466898_1.html

So, if you back the movement from CAIR, what does that make you?

  50. srobins2 says:

Wankler, what is your point? This government “reminder” doesn’t prove a thing. The government says and says that CAIR is a terrorist organization, but they have never offered a shred of evidence to substantiate that accusation. Not one. They *say* such “evidence” was introduced at the HLF trial, but if it were real evidence, rather than more unfounded assertions, why haven’t they prosecuted CAIR? Because they can’t–because there *is no evidence.*

  51. theWankler says:

srobins2 – OJ was never convicted either.

Look at thier track record. Look at all the x-members who have been kicked out of the country. If I was to drive around with a blurb like such, “Death by stoning for two sisters in Iran, damn 14th century throwbacks”. Are you going to find me disgusting for writting that (Which I do) or the creeps that stone these girls? My point, Mike just brings awareness to people that have no idea stuff lke this even takes place. Two people stopped to ask me if they really stoned people to death in Iran. See me point?

CAIR has enough skeletons to fill a graveyard. They called the FBI on me for some alleged death threat I sent them. Well, I was never charged becuase there was NO DEATH THREAT. Islam and the wests freedom of speech do not mash.

    Regards,
    Chris King

Just your typical NEO-CON hate mongering at it`s worst. It is guys like him who make people very weary of the discrimination that still goes on in America today.People like these are not ,i repeat not represenitive of American values, morals and plain old american pie.How neo-con can call themselves American I just don`t understand the contradictions they cast upon this great country of ours.I can`t wiat till Nov!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I beleive that Gary Larson said it best (IMO, naturally)
    And I paraphrase….

You have got to make the choice, Dude… Is it the touchy, feel good god of the new testament, or is it that Dirty Harry, smite first, ask questions later kind of old testament god?

Personally, I think extremists from both sides could use a little of both…. Kind of a biblical tough love, as it were

  54. pasadenanewprogressive says:

We are inundated here in Pasadena, CA with hate blogs who use violent language all the time. The local hate-bloggers, a handful really, are a bunch of “bullies” and our local media has become enamored with them, finding them useful.

Its crazy. The community has grown numb to it – and this I find very dangerous.

  55. gregsolo says:

Looks like someone needs a $100 million contract. It’s all about rating and unfortunately most Americans love garbage like Savage…and Limbaugh…and Hannity. Hate sells big time. Just look at the past 7.5 years.
