Right Wing Anoints Mitt Romney The New ‘Face Of Conservatism’

romneyf.jpg Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney may have dropped out of the GOP presidential race, but the right wing hasn’t given up on him.

Immediately following his resignation speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference on Friday, Romney met with “50 stalwarts of the political right” about a possible new role: “becoming the face of conservatism.”

The right wing must be in dire straits if it is turning to Romney as its leader, a man best known for his hypocrisy and flip flopping. Apparently though, they are hoping to use these qualities to Romney’s advantage:

Jay Sekulow, a Romney volunteer and chief counsel of the American Center for Law and Justice, told attendees that Mr. Romney is the “turnaround specialist” the conservative movement needs.

“The movement needs someone of Ronald Reagan’s stature and Romney could fill that role,” Mr. Sekulow told The Washington Times yesterday.

Romney has changed positions on immigration, abortion, Iraq withdrawal, his opinions on President Bush, greenhouse gas emissions, and even the Spanish language.

Not all the attendees at the meeting were sold on this “turnaround specialist.” Political strategist Paul Erickson, who worked on Romney’s campaign, admitted, “You could tell everybody at the table sitting with Romney was asking himself: ‘Is he the one?’ Some concluded yes and others could say only that it is too soon to tell.”

Unclear how receptive the American public will be to the new Ronald Reagan of the 21st century, considering the majority of GOP voters rejected him as their nominee for president.

Digg It!

thats awesome, mitt failed. now right wing has another face to add to the wall of shame.

    the new face of conservatism/

    I’m gonna PUKE!

  3. whatevah says:

They should just photograph a flipflop as the new face of conservatism. This shows how pathetic the GOP has become. They can’t get behind McBush so they’re canonizing Romney who is no longer in the race.

These delusionists would rather hang on to a dream which could have been but clearly IS NOT than to unite and back WHAT IS.

  4. Fritz says:

Looks like the face of a LOSER to me. Very similar to McCain’s and Hucka-chuckle.

  5. whatevah says:

And when it’s obvious that McBush is too old, too tired, too much like 4 more years of a failed presidency to be continued, they will also realize that it’s a lose/lose proposition for them for at least the next decade.

The GOP’s recent division over McCain will take what’s left of this pathetic gang of 28 percenters and demolish them entirely. In terms of relevance and sheer numbers, the GOP is already our third party.

  6. whatevah says:

By hanging onto the image of a snake oil salesman like Mitt it pretty much says it all. Losers and they know it.

  7. missmolly says:

Apparently the “new face of conservatism” is someone quite malleable; someone who can be trusted to mold himself to whatever the conservative stance is for the day.

A perfect role for Mitt-flop Romney.

  8. whatevah says:

Even Coultergeist compared McCain to Hitler. Wow.

  9. whatevah says:

missmolly – the stance of the day or the lie of the day. The perfect chamelion.

    And just in time!

Oh, wait — he dropped out, didn’t he?

Ah well, a cut-and-runner as “the new face of conservatism”? I can see that.

Who hasn’t she referred to as “Hitler”? I think odds are pretty good that she’s even referred to Snoopy in “Peanuts” as Hitler at some point in her long, meandering cocktail-dressed career.

  12. tarazan says:

He fits the criteria…1. Son of a politician..(governor)
    2. Worth millions of dollars.
    3. Willing to pour more tax money to help the military industrial complex, and that means more wars.
    4. He panders to Right religious groups.
    5. Promised big tax cuts, regardless whether we are broke or not.
    6. He worships Reagan.

    7. He passed the test., now he is the new face of Conservatism.

    Unlike a conservative.

“The movement needs someone of Ronald Reagan’s stature and Romney could fill that role,” Mr. Sekulow told The Washington Times yesterday.

How disappointing. Mr Sekulow got the Reagan mention in there, but failed to slip in a reference to 9/11 or how the Democrats, if elected, will allow the terrorists in the front door so they can dine on our children. Opportunity lost.

She doesn’t refer to everybody as Hitler — she refers to many as being gay (often accompanied with appropriate slur). There are probably some who she has called “gay Hitlers”.

  22. zuch says:

    “turnaround” (n): 1). Flip-flop….

Mittens has already crapped his “Special Underwear” and those super secret “Golden Plates” didn’t help much either.

Mr. Sekulow is dreaming, the progressives warned of Mitts cult like “religion” and the Republicans listened and rejected him.

Sekulow himself is a “Jews for Jayyyzzzuuuusss” cultie. Cults doan scare him none.

    Cheers,

  25. marlow says:

I guess the “new face of conservatism’s” kid are free now to ship out to Iraq.

  26. Bobwurst says:

It’s telling that they use the term “face”. The image is what’s important to these people. They don’t “need” brains, or ideas, morality, all they need is a “face”.

And what a face, the babes want him, and the guys want to be him. He’s got the chisled good looks of an actor in an ED commerical (my apologies to letterman if he used that one already).

I would like to know more about this august group of conservatives. I would be willing to bet that they have strong corporate/economic ties.

haven’t read any comments here… just wanted to put this out:

i’ve heard a very logical theory, between here, C&L, and
AirAmericaRadio, most recently yesterday listening to SAM SEDER…
that mcCAVE is a sacrificial lamb… the repugs know they can’t win
this election and so have resigned to that and have offered up
    mcCAVE to take the fall…

they will regroup and gather strength for ‘12, no doubt…
    and here’s their guy… Quittens…

  32. Yankeluh says:

So when can we expect him to advocate selling weapons to Iran?

If it was good enough for Reagan…

  40. Uncle Ho says:

Since Mittens has “suspended” his bid for prez, his sons can REALLY serve their country by enlisting in the army. Campaigning for daddy does NOT equate to actual combat service.

Romney boys, are you ready to enlist?

    crickets chirping.

Boy the reich-wing sure loves good looking men. That’s McCain’s problem, he fugly. Ronald Reagan, now Mit, the right can’t bend over fast enough.

  42. rantingraver says:

it could be MUCH worse, they could have named Huckabee the new face of Conservatism… is it just me, or does “conservatism” get closer to “theocracy” with each election?

I gotta admit, it’s not bad. Could have been worded a little more skillfully, but not bad.

  49. Badger says:

If Romney is such a great Turnaround Specialist, why didn’t he Turn Around his losing Campaign. With all his wealth, good looks, happy marriage, and support from Conservative activists and celebrities…He couldn’t Get a majority of REPUBLICAN VOTERS to vote for him.

This comes as a shock to the delusional Conservatives….but apparently Lots of republicans weren’t buying what he was selling.

Too bad….with him as the Republican nominee, the landside would have been even greater.

  50. scytherius says:

Good. They hitched themselves to a perennial loser. This all keeps getting better and better and better. I’m so loving the destruction if conservatism and the Repug Party. I just can’t decide if I want it quick, or slow and painful.

  51. katy says:

    Bobwurst mentioned LETTERMAN above…
i think it’s a hoot that david has that picture of Quittens on the wall,
and makes a big satirical deal out of the guy… it’s funny…
but i haven’t seen his reaction since the drop-out…

“YEA! LOOK AT THAT GUY! ISN’T THAT GREAT?!”

  52. Repunklicans says:

There’s gonna be a landslide alright!!! HilDog or Obamarama is gonna ROLL over the REPUNKlican candidate with ease!!! THE REICH-WING REIGN OF TERROR IS OVER!!!! John McPAIN-IN-MY-ARSE is gonna look like such a FOOL when this election is over!!!!!!!

  53. Repunklicans says:

Hahaha! MUTTONCHOPS PROMNEY PIMPING his kids out to work on his campaign. What a loser to resort to using his CHILDREN as PAWNS in his ENDGAME for the presidency. What kind of a loser would that?? BUTT ROMNEY, that’s who!!!!!

  54. Dirty Hippie says:

Did he just pull that finger out of Reagan’s ass?

  55. natisman says:

They really are doing this thing with St Ronnie of Reagan to the hilt. Ronnie didn’t make it the first time around when instead of running he had to sit back and watch while Ford turned in the wind.

It’s too bad they didn’t tell him all he had to do was a little speech at the convention this year instead of coming up with all the cash he and his Church did.

I wonder what happened to his dog?

  56. Carly Corday says:

That photo of Romney…hey, it really IS the face of conservatism!

  57. Carly Corday says:

  59. tombaker says:

Rep. John Shadegg (R-Ariz.) will announce this evening that he will retire from the House upon the conclusion of his current term, according to a well-placed Republican source.

That makes 29 R’s surrendering from Congress.

Mitt’s face is going to get awfully tired – it’s got a lot of slack to pick up.

  60. GL2814 says:

Here’s the new face of conservatism:

  61. Dagoril says:

Mitt is the perfect poster-child for conservatism. Insincere in all things, and not remotely conservative in the traditional sense. Compassion does not know him.

  62. williamf says:

Can you say empathy Mitt? Where did you serve in the military? Will you bounce your grandkids on your knee and when they ask you what did you do in the war grandpa, you’ll say, well I made a ton of money because war is good business for us rich folks.

  63. A Patriot Acting says:

“the new face of Conservatism”? Looks like Ronnie Raygun had a rendezvous with Morrisey in some men’s room long ago and spawned some kind of flip-flopping mutant Conservatron. It’ll be good to see Mittens run again in 2012. His sons can watch their inheritance dwindle away even further.

  64. Jericho says:

Nobody could conserve a good set of hair as Mitt did. As for our values, reasons and our true spirit, I guess Mitt has already proven himself uncapable of gathering useful intelligence.
