A quick search of the Anti-war site yielded 4 pages of articles on Exxon-Mobil. None of them supportive!

www.antiwar.com/justin/?articleid=742 - 59k

This is only one example from that extreme Libertarian, Justin Raimondo ( with whom I have a great deal of disagreement in terms of politics)

That article is about Russian Oil, nothing about the middle east.

Wait one minute here! Savage(less) attacks a man, who suffered a horrific life of unforgivable memories, after he dies???
Did he ever attack this man when he was alive?
Kind of sums up the chicken hawks, doesn't it? Only attack when you are guaranteed of no counter!

Meanwhile, my thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Rep. Lantos. May he finally have peace.

I think there are a lot of Republicans voting for Obama on the Democratic side. They would rather face Obama than Hillary in the general election. Remember, the members of the “Free Republic” web site were celebrating when Obama won the Iowa caucus.

Comment by delafield — February 13, 2008 @ 2:16 am

That isn't possible in every state. Many have more stringent, lengthy requirements to switch which party you vote for in a primary. No last-minute sort of thing. Moreover, many of the Republican turnouts are average, but the Democratic turnouts are breaking records. This isn't just freak Republican spoiler votes.

If the Republicans ARE trying to vote Obama in because they think he'd be easier to defeat in the general election, I think they are making a horrific tactical mistake on the GOP's part. Hillary has topped out at around a 40-45% approval rating for years now, when in the White House and when in the Senate. That seems to be her popularity cap. Obama does not have the same problem. In this case, his "inexperience" (not politically, merely his inexperience at being in the public spotlight) is in all likelihood a strength, not a weakness. Hillary Clinton's existence in the public spotlight for 15+ years, and all of the accompanying vitriol she is endlessly subject to, is a weakness in her campaign, not the strength she no doubt wishes it were.

I live right next to Lantos district. I was glad he was not my representative because I didn't support him. I used to have a bumper sticker on my car against Lantos because he was a hawk. But I would not say that he was totally bad. On some issues, he voted right. The district is very Democratic and will be represented by Spier, a change for the better.

Barack Obama didn’t just beat Hillary in Virginia. He didn’t just get more votes than John McCain. In “red” Virginia, Obama got 142,000 more votes than all the Republicans put together.

Obama Beat the Republicans

Barack Obama didn't just beat Hillary in Virginia. He didn't just get more votes than John McCain. In "red" Virginia, Obama got 142,000 more votes than all the Republicans put together. And that was with Hillary Clinton taking 100,000 more votes than John McCain.

He kicked butt, took names, and did it with both hands tied behind his back.

Oh, and in Maryland, with 40% of the vote in, Hillary is beating all Republicans put together while losing by 27%. You could probably limit Democrats to only left-handed voters, or red-haired voters, or left-handed red-haired voters whose names start with 'Q,' and the Republicans would still be in trouble.

"Speaking of things creepy, the pattern with these neocons is always the same: backed up against a wall, they simply yell "fascist" as a last resort. While the supposedly "brownshirted" Buchanan deplores the humanitarian catastrophe caused by our ongoing war on the Iraqi people, "anti-fascists" like Stuttaford and Foreman can’t wait to unleash American hellfire on the Arab peoples of the entire region. It’s funny that all the cruelty, the lust for power and conquest is on the "anti-fascist" side – now why do you think that is?

By the way, what is so "undemocratic" about not excluding the military from the national debate? The neocons sure wanted those military votes during the Florida recount, going so far as charging that the anti-military Democrats were trying to disenfranchise the troops, and demanding that the voice of the troops be heard loud and clear.

What a difference a war makes.

Now they are supposed to shut up and send their soldiers to die – and for what? So that Exxon-Mobil and British Petroleum can pump oil out of the soil of a "democratic" Iraqi? So that every country in the Middle East can be transformed into a Jeffersonian republic at gunpoint? So that Israel’s enemies are smitten, one by one, with the blunt end of American power, and the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians can proceed under cover of the resulting conflagration? "

And the problem I have with antiwar is where they place the onus of responsibility for global conflict. See much criticism of Exxon-Mobil there? I haven't.

I'm not saying Lantos was above and beyond criticism or that some of his views towards that Arab? Israeli conflict were all that great. Actually, in some of his positions, he was relatively moderate towards the middle east situation in comparison with many. I'm just saying, all roads don't lead to a Zionist conspiracy. The US empire is far greater than any Israeli lobby. Israel is just a strategic hamlet for US interests, not the other way around.

You seem to want a straw man argument. You are arguing against Libertarianism as though someone was actually debating that subject with you. The subject being debated here is "non-interventionism", whether you are from the right left, or Pluto. The Anti-war site is by far the best news site regarding American interventionism around the world, that is available on the web. Then, some are happy sitting on sites like TP and waiting for the next juicy from the MSM, so they can comment as though they had someting interesting, intelligent, or different to say.

Libertarianism doesn't question authority, it's a psy-ops tool of corporate interests. Yes, they'll say you can smoke pot and proclaim themselves "non-interventionists" (read old school right wing isolationist) but you can't use the democratic instrument of government to regulate corporations in the public interest or organize effective unions. Try talking to a Libertarian about global heating or civil rights. You'll get the same right wing claptrap you get from Republicans.
