Pentagon pushes for more contractor immunity in Iraq.

As the Bush administration prepares to “renegotiate a long-term bilateral security agreement” with Iraq, a “deal-breaker for the Iraqis is contractor immunity” of the type that allowed Blackwater guards to escape punishment after killing 17 Iraqis in a Baghdad shoot-out. But “in interagency discussions arranged in preparation for the start of negotiations, the Department of Defense has said it wants to ask the Iraqis to maintain status quo.” The State Department “has argued strongly against that position.”

Because if they have to start worring about the threat of lawsuits they would never get ANYTHING done! Oh, wait…

  2. katy says:

don’t need immunity if there is no crime.

    pretty simple.

must be some crime going on there…

Yes, lets get that immunity bill for the last 8 years going, don’t want to have to spend my Halliburton money for lawyers.

Iraq has a long and storied history of litigation… They brought us the concept of law… its only right that we return the favor and introduce the concept of being “above the law”

  6. VerbalKint says:

Both FBI and Army investigators concluded that Blackwater was not provoked in the shooting referenced in this post. It was simple homicide committed by mercenaries out of control, probably suffering from ‘roid rage. The Bush administration has done everything possible to allow these murdering, raping thugs to operate outside of the law.

Why don’t they just do away with ALL laws and be effing done with it??

looks like Shock and Awe, doesn’t it, chuck? War crimes on both sides, how nice. And I didn;t see the Al Qaeda insignia, either. Funny how that is ignored by the antiAmerican clowns like Napier.

They have: they are called “signing statements”. Nobody seems to have the balls to call BushCo on his Constitutional power grab. So, basically they have torn up our way of life because one man – or in Bush’s case, one chimp – can disregard the passed laws of the US Congress. The US as you used to know it, is gone forever.

Now, explain the difference between what you have posted and “Shock and Awe”. Both burned people alive; one was provable, boastfully American, one was…???

  30. bilbobaggins says:

    Comment by Charles James Napier

Fool tool troll Napier thinks that we are idiots because we don’t buy the lies this Administration tells us. It has no proof that these people are AQ. It believes it’s authority figure because without believing, it has no reason for being. It is incapable of independent though.

Interesting point – bush has Secret Service training more people than any other prior President to protect him after leaving office. Now why would he feel so threatened ? It is showing its ability to project with the best of them. It is going to be in big trouble when the Democrats are in charge. It will no longer have a reason to live. And it is the its like Napier that I fear when Obama becomes President. I certainly hope that Obama hires and trains his own Secret Service agents. If I were him, I wouldn’t touch anything that Bush touched with a ten foot pool. Everything Bush has touched is tained beyond redemption.

  62. bilbobaggins says:

And we wonder why there is an Insurgency????
    Comment by Badger

Well, that’s what happens when you invade and occupy a country against it’s will.

What the Iraqi’s are doing is pretty much what we would be doing if they had invaded our country and were currently occupying it.

  63. VerbalKint says:

Wow. Looks like we got a real live one on this thread. Well, Chuck, your extreme version of moral relativism takes the cake. Two wrongs make a right, Chuck. They murder, but hell, we can murder too. That’ll show ‘em, eh Chuck? Tell me, Chuck, do you pretend to be a Christian? Because if you do, I want to let you in on a little secret: you aren’t. Not even close, Chuck. No, Chuck, you are a total war type. The type who sanctions war crimes, who sanctions crimes against humanity. Think about that the next time you advocate enabling the enemy by proposing that our country sink to their level.

  64. VerbalKint says:

You gonna go domestic terrorist on us if Obama or Clinton wins, Chuck? You seem like the Travis Bickle type to me.

  65. texaslady says:

Well it might not be so bad if someone came in and removed King George and Cheney, I would have to think about which side to fight on.

  66. bilbobaggins says:

I really do wish that TP would add to their rules the following:

You will be in violation of the rules of TP if you post to a thread simply to disrupt the thread. If this happens and five TP posters flag you, your comments will be deleted from the thread. If you are flagged and deleted from five threads, you will be banned from TP forever.

And then, I wish that they would follow through. I can’t believe how they allow people like napier and his ilk to post to threads simply with the intent of disrupting the thread. It happens every day and it is very irritating.

But, I must commend the regulars for getting better at not getting sucked into their rants. I would like to see everyone here refuse to validate their existence by talking to them directly. If enough people did that, they would probably leave. I truly believe that most of them are here to get an ego boost and you give them the boost when you respond directly to them. It’s sad how small they are to need to spam a blog to get their ego boosts.

  67. Chuck U. Farley says:

What is a “bilateral security agreement?” Does that mean America will assure Iraq’s security and Iraq will assure America’s? That sounds like a deal Bush would fall for.

Dumb Question: of our other bases in other countries (as we know they aren’t permanent bases. HA HA): How many of these countries extend blanket immunity to our actions ? If we rape a girl in Korea is that just fine with the Koreans ? If we rape a girl in Germany, is that just fine ?

So why now in Iraq (which we, by WH statement are not there permanently) do we have to have this legal “get out of jail free card” which appears to be unprecedented ?

  70. Marie says:
