Military contractor rewarded for shortchanging troops.

VoteVets’ Brandon Friedman writes that the company that provided over 2 million substandard Kevlar helmets to U.S. troops was also awarded one of three U.S. government contracts to provide armor for the new Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles (MRAPs). Earlier this month, the military contractor — Sioux Manufacturing — agreed to pay a $2 million fine for producing bad helmets.

IT’S Okay as long as Sioux Manufacturing makes a huge profit. This administration supports making a profit off the troops…

  2. ucsbclassics53 says:

I mean it’s the republican way, say you support the troops, but do nothing as our troops die from defective equipment and such…

  3. Merlin says:

Hey look, they have to get their two million bucks back, don’t they?

  4. McWars says:

You screw up, you move up.

  5. McWars says:

We all have to understand, we can’t just remove any troops beyond reversing the surge. The contractors need their business model, their cash flow to remain intact.

What are we, loons? What are we, defeatocrastinators?

I wish my employer rewarded incompetence – I’d be a hero!

  7. celtic cynic says:

They agreed to pay a $2,000,000.00 fine (two million dollars, USD). How nice.
And their contract is worth how much?
And the company contributed how much to Bush and his cronies?
    How nice.

In the future you’ll see sweetheart rip-off deals like this heavily scruntinized. Starting about Jan. 20, 2009.

With yet another increase in defense contractor spending proposed by shrub, they’ll have their fines returned.

  10. zathrus says:

Actually, they paid $2M to settle a whistleblower suit, admitted no wrongdoing, and really just wanted it to go away. The implication that they paid t his as some kind of “fine” for shoddy product is at least misleading, and possibly just plain wrong. I am totally against war profiteering, but I don’t think that is what at work here. This smells more like a disgruntled former employee who was let go for an improper relationship with a coworker.

So, were the substandard helmets made by the disgruntled employee?

  15. Bobwurst says:

And if mcain’s kid gets killed because he’s wearing one of those defective helmets?

  16. ucsbclassics53 says:

apparently, the vast left-wing conspiracy took some of the soldiers’ helmets, and made them look like substandard…*sarcasm

at least they’re not defective, toxic helmets from China…

…but I hear DoD is hard at work to find a way….

#17… Nope. But, I have known about this issue for a few days, and spent a couple hours reading through the available material abut it.

I’m glad to see this side of the story getting more play. It went all but unnoticed when it first broke two weeks ago.

Damn whistleblowers they ruin everything for the war profiteers. Can’t we all just get along and be ripped off together. Support our dead troops.

McCain wants this to go on another 100 years. Unfortunatly I don’t think the country has that kind of cash. We might have to hit Cheney for a loan. He has all that oil profit money.

I agree. I live close to this plant. It’s owned & managed by Native Americans. Two married white managers were caught having sex, (not married to each other), at work. They were fired, so now have begun to retaliate with a several claims about workmanship.
Sioux Mfg does not make shoddy or substandard equipment.

Let’s see what the Court says before rushing to judgment…

  29. GOTONEGOD says:

My response to zathrus and zimzone.
Both of you are way off. I also live close to Sioux Manufacturing. I know the person that made up the sexual story of the two whistleblowers. He wishes he hadn’t. I’ve read a lot of actual SMC documents, and secretly taped transcripts on the net. I wished it wasn’t true but it doesn’t look good for SMC. There is talk about congressional hearings. Maybe they can get to the bottom of this, so I geuss I agree with you on not rushing to judgment.
