PolitickerNJ reports that U.S. Attorney Christopher Christie and former attorney general John Ashcroft will not testify in front of a House Judiciary subcommittee next week about a lucrative federal monitoring contact Christie gave to Ashcroft. The Justice Department is refusing to say whether or not it barred Christie from testifying. The hearing has been postponed until next month.
UPDATE: Marcy Wheeler has more.

How about a litte more “contempt of Congress” fellas?
It’s about time for another Repuke walkout.
February 20th, 2008 at 4:56 pmIs there a statute of limitations on these investigations? Can the new Congress pursue these criminals in January 2009?
February 20th, 2008 at 4:58 pmCan you spell “Contempt”?
February 20th, 2008 at 5:01 pmIs there no end to this buffoonery?
Arrest them now!
February 20th, 2008 at 5:02 pmCan Bush claim “executive privilege” in this situation? Will he try?
February 20th, 2008 at 5:03 pmCmon congress, so you been blackmailed, lets get it out in the open so America can heal itself. Its not like white collar prison is all that bad, Ney is already about to be out.
February 20th, 2008 at 5:03 pmCome on Congress the chimpster is down to 19%, we want you to UPHOLD THE LAW.
Use your Inherent Contempt Law, and get your Sargent at Arms and go ARREST these Bush Toadies that are giving you the finger.
Oh, you’re gonna write a stern letter, well that’s so much better then.

Bloomberg: New York count ‘fraud’
Wed, 20 Feb 2008 23:07:12
New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg
Mayor Michael Bloomberg says the results for the New York Democratic presidential primary suggest that ‘fraud’ has been committed.
The New York mayor was pointing to unofficial results in which Senator Barack Obama reportedly recieved no votes in nearly 80 New York State districts.
“If you want to call it significant undercounting, I guess that’s a euphemism for fraud,†said Bloomberg.
Election officials have claimed that the result was but a mere ‘error’.
Unofficial tallies have given the rising Democratic presidential hopeful no votes in 78 out of more than 6,000 election districts.
February 20th, 2008 at 5:05 pmGet out the tin foil hats and limbaugh truth detectors!!!
February 20th, 2008 at 5:06 pmWhere is a US Marshall when you need him/her?
Did Congress forget to fund the service?
Oh, I forgot, they’re building the Great Wall of Texas and riding planes! - The routes to the South must be especially sought after this time of year. ……………….

Comment by Bush Cover Ups — February 20, 2008 @ 5:05 pm
The most telling, not one vote tallied for Obama in Harlem’s districts where estimated 80% supported Obama.

February 20th, 2008 at 5:15 pmDid anyone expect these either of these bozos to waltz into a committee without being subpoenaed? Gumless/gaumless Conyers knew better. What game is he playing?
February 20th, 2008 at 5:23 pmGive a call to the GAO, I’m sure they’d love to send an audit team to review the contract.
February 20th, 2008 at 5:59 pmremember that Ashcroft is now a private citizen…..he cannot claim executive privilege (not that he could have anyway….). If he refuses to testify (or at least plead the ‘fif’), then he’s really screwed (at least until the pardon).
And for all the trolls….its stuff like this that causes the 19% approval rating….so yeah, its pretty legit despite your claims!
February 20th, 2008 at 6:03 pmShould these jackasses be subjected to extraordinary rendition to a secret location in Eastern Europe, to have enhanced interrorgation techniques applied until they spill their guts?
All in favor?
February 20th, 2008 at 6:04 pmLet’s show Ashcroft some Inherent Contempt, and see how he likes the DC jail.
February 20th, 2008 at 6:06 pmHearing postponed because Ashcroft and Christie refuse to testify? What sort of investigative system is that? The more obvious and corrupt, the greater opportunity to slip through the cracks of the system. Instead, call for an immediate hearing telling the possible criminals that they must appear and have the ultimatum delivered by the Federal Marshall’s Office.
February 20th, 2008 at 6:10 pmActually, its impeachment time!
February 20th, 2008 at 6:11 pm“I don’t want to.â€
I don’t want to? Did they say, “I don’t want to?â€
Since when is answering a summons a choice?
These clowns need to be hauled before Congress in chains, have their bank accounts seized, and then be taken to a secret location for at least a year with no access to family, lawyers, or anyone else.
Goddamned criminals.
February 20th, 2008 at 6:11 pmMarcus (6:11pm),
Actually….answering a summons is ALWAYS a choice. The named party can ALWAYS refuse service……but there are ALWAYS consequences. Well, at least for the rest of us normal folks.
The worst part of Congress’ lack of action is the precedent it is setting by not performing its constitutionally mandated duties…watch, in the future every defendant will simply say, “I chose not to comply because in the case of Congress v. Ashcroft, Meirs, Bush, Cheney, etc, the courts held that defendants may use a subpoena or summons as toilet paper.”.
February 20th, 2008 at 6:23 pmThe lawlessness of this administration knows no bounds. Time for Inherent Contempt. It’s the only thing that will work. If Congress allows them to throw this stuff into the court system, they will run out the clock.
I really want to see these people put into handcuffs by the Sargent at Arms and frog marched down into the jail in the cellar.
February 20th, 2008 at 6:30 pmremember that Ashcroft is now a private citizen…..he cannot claim executive privilege (not that he could have anyway….). If he refuses to testify (or at least plead the ‘fif’), then he’s really screwed (at least until the pardon).

Harriett Meiers is a private citizen and Bush claimed EP for her.
February 20th, 2008 at 6:33 pmNot to be an apologist, but to postpone is not refusal. TP, lets not jump the gun.
February 20th, 2008 at 6:44 pmThe former Attorney General of the United States has put himself in contempt of court.
February 20th, 2008 at 6:46 pmEvery one of these Bush cronies feels he is above the law.
Of course, the laws are written only for us peons, not the elite.
Can’t they just “plead the Fifth” and be done with it, so we’ll know what kind of a maladinistration you gte when you elect Rethuglicans?
Cheers,
February 20th, 2008 at 6:49 pmDid somebody say “Letter time”?
February 20th, 2008 at 6:57 pmIf the dems in congress don’t start to enforce these things, they are not doing their job of oversight.
Screw the letters…send in the US Marshals and get that jail cell in the congressional building all prepped for all of these damned criminals.
This is getting old.
DO SOMETHING!
February 20th, 2008 at 8:14 pmIf any Senator who voted to confirm Mukasey believes he is “independent,” I have an island in New York they might want to buy. Would that be you, Senator Schumer? Oh, what a mess we are in. I continue to believe there is some kind of stupid juice chemical weapon being given to members of congress. Can’t anybody do anything?
February 20th, 2008 at 9:00 pmI really want to see these people put into handcuffs by the Sargent at Arms and frog marched down into the jail in the cellar.
