There’s a huge difference between an individual who contributes to a politician’s campaign and a lobbyist who is representing an entire industry and doing it with huge amounts of cash. If I make a $25 campaign donation to a politician because I would like him to work hard for the environment, do you think that politician is likely to change his thinking or his vote? Then think about a lobbyist for the telcom industry who will funnel $100,000 into my next campaign. Now, do you think that I am likely to tell that person, “no”?
