Rove wanted dirty details on Siegelman.»

On Sunday, CBS’s 60 Minutes will air its long-awaited report on the Bush administration’s political persecution of Alabama’s incarcerated former governor Don Siegelman. In the piece, former GOP operative Jill Simpson alleges that Karl Rove personally told her to find evidence that Siegelman was cheating on his wife:

According to the CBS statement, Simpson says Rove approached her at a 2001 meeting, when Siegelman was still governor.

“Karl Rove asked you to take pictures of Siegelman?” reporter Scott Pelley asks.

“Yes,” Simpson replies.

“In a compromising sexual position with one of his aides,” Pelley says.

“Yes, if I could,” she responds.

Rove refused to speak with 60 Minutes for the piece.

    Silence implies consent!

  3. flavorino Says:

Why does Rove get to apparently break laws and ignore Congressional subpoenas?
What if everybody did the crap that he did?
What kind of nation would this then be?
When is Congress going to grow some cojones and set some standards for the out-of control juveniles that are the Bush gang?

  4. dixie blood Says:

Rove = Lying, RePugniScum, useless, scumbag POS!! Nothing new here!

  5. Merlin Says:

I am sure, that even as we blog, there are folks out there who are writing books about the inside dirty tricks Rove pushed. Bush’s Brain will not only be shown to be about as smart as Bush’s brain, but a lot sleazier (if that is possible.)

His place in the history books will do him the justice that he so richly deserves.

  6. alpuz3 Says:

Rove has a a huge hard-on for scandalous sex - or anything that remotely resembles it. Look for it in the smelly slime that bubbles forth in the next 9 months or so.

He’s still on the payroll, doing what does so well, wallowing in the sh*t and flinging it on everyone.

  7. Jackie Says:

Nice to see Thinkprogress is now getting up to date with his case. Governor Reilly was put in the position for political reasons. The Judge who heard the case got kick backs to his person company to make sure Siegelman would go to jail for fake information. The real deal is the US Attorney in the case is under investigation for lying under oath in many former cases. Now she gave the case to her friend to make sure the case went forward. This is going to be made in a movie for sure. Who will play criminal US Attorney Alice Martin, corrupt Judge Fuller and of course the Republican self appointed corrupt Governor Reilly. These people would make Hoover and Al Capone proud. You’ll see why we have no Justice System anymore after what what these crooks do. No worries the new Attorney General knows all about it and he approves of all the government criminal acts.
Karl Rove was a very busy man in the selective prosecution cases as to remove Democrats from office.
I must say it worked well as American have no idea the US was invaded by the worse criminals of our time and are sitting in the White House.

  8. natisman Says:

Well, give Rover the benefit of the thing, perhaps he just wanted to hetro sex instead of the old boy on boy thing.

Old Rover would never do anything uncopestic, now, would he?

Old mushy butt Karl just needed a new challenge. A new opportunity to ruin someone’s life again. He was getting tired of the kiddie porn Mark Foley was sending him.

  13. flavorino Says:

    Rove is freak.
Like most of the neocons he has to have his revenge on the world for what the world did to him during his adolescence.

Let’s face it these guys were not dating the hot girls(in Rove’s case probably ANY girls), were not the star athletes, don’t seem to have much style, or ability to deal with people unlike themselves.
Many of them seem to be somewhat effeminate, in fact seem like closeted homosexuals (not that there’s anything wrong with that in itself, it’s not a choice). They must have been picked on at some point. We know kids can be cruel.
Neocons are mostly baby boomers, going to school in the Vietnam/Nixon era. Most of them were members of the Young Republicans and like organizations during their school days.
That must have been an isolating experience during that era.
Not exactly the thing that would make you a big man on campus.
None of them have seemed to served in the military, they avoided the draft and Vietnam (McCain is not a neocon, he’s a garden variety politician). This further isolates them from the experiences of their peers.

Rove’s father came out of the closet when he was in high school and left the family.I believe his Mother eventually commited suicide.
This is a guy with some serious baggage from his youth.

I think what this country has been subjected to the last 8 years by the Bush gang is basically the revenge of the troubled, maladjusted nerds and dweebs of the ’60s and ’70s who in late middle-age finally achieved the power they’ve been seeking all their lives.

Yeah, it does seem like one big “in your face/ F- you” to everyone outside of the bubble. Hell, just look at Cheney.

  17. Zooey Says:

Rove wouldn’t talk to 60 Minutes?

    Imagine that….

  18. Above the Clouds Says:

Rove should be complimented for his nearly single-handed destruction of the Republican Party. He has forever cemented his place on the top of the GOP losers scrap heap.

  19. Ms_Joanne Says:

The thing he so richly deserves, which he has gotten, is the decimation of the gooper party…and for that I thank him.

Other than that, he could easily stop breathing and I wouldn’t mourn.

this in my inbox, in part, from PFAW:

The Senate passed a FISA reform bill last week that not only falls short on adequately protecting Americans from warrantless surveillance, but also shamefully grants retroactive immunity to the telecommunications companies that may have aided the Bush administration’s illegal domestic wiretapping.

The House, which is showing encouraging signs of spinal fortitude in recent days, can still stop this. That is why we are launching an emergency petition to STOP TELECOM IMMUNITY. Please be one of the first to sign.

    http://www.pfaw.org/go/StopImmunity

Americans are speaking out — thousands have taken action, hundreds have participated in our collaborative multimedia project with the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) and have sent us video testimonials and pictures expressing their opposition to telecom immunity and warrantless spying. Please watch the video compilation we have just finished and get inspired by these activists (then sign the petition).

  25. Ms_Joanne Says:

    Signed with pleasure, Katy!

  26. Dr. Matt Says:

KKKarl Rove probably wanted pictures to see what heterosexual sex looks like.

These are the people snarling at Woodstock, The 60s, Hippies, Beatniks, Peace, Love, Anti-War, and hated Rowan and Martin’s Laugh In. Karl Rove is a degenerate bastard, and I would not doubt he is at the bottom of the McCain sex scandal, so as to get Mutt Rommel back in the race.

  29. ForTruth Says:

What is more telling is that he is a coward. I mean, you could be a dirty sob, but there is honor in not doing it behind anyone’s back.

    No, these people are cowards.

  33. Marie Says:

Rove does whatever he wants and doesn’t do whatever he chooses.
He personifies everything about Bush&Co - above the law, in-your-face-arrogance, chip-on-the-shoulder defiance, and absolutely unlikeable, disgusting and repugnant.

  34. Theresa Says:

Can someone please explain to me how a “GOP operative” would ever be in a personal situation to photograph the married Governor of Arkansas in a compromising sexual position with one of his aides, who is not their wife?

Now, in light of this weeks’ news about McCain’s possible tryst with a TELECOM lobbyist and the Repubs crying foul about what happens in your personal life is personal, how is what happens in a Dems personal life NOT personal?

Oh, I get it. If you’re a Dem President: impeach, if you’re a Dem Gov: go to jail; if you’re Repub: go the head of the class and get the nomination.

We’re talking hypocracy at its finest…

  35. 99Luf Balloons Says:

    Teresa,
If you are REpub, it is go to the first stall on your left. ;)

Would it not be OK to perform a citzen’s arrest being that he is a fugitive from Congress subpeona?

  36. 99Luf Balloons Says:

I am sure Rove does not enjoy Secret Service protection anymore, being that he is no longer a gov employee.

  39. americangoy Says:

    Wow - incredible story.
Why isn’t this woman in a court, swearing on a bible, and telling this story?

Oh yeah - this is America, and since Ford pardoned Nixon, politicians cannot be held accountable.

  40. Shayne Says:

Thanks TP for NOT putting a picture of Rove up with this post.

  45. araratararat Says:

Are these the same criminal bastards who have been tapping America’s phones, reading their e-mails and opening the mails. We are supposed to believe fascist political criminals like rove, alberto gonzales and prick cheney would never listen in on members of the Democratic Party to gather some political damaging dirt ? Any doubt as to why or the reason the Democratic Party is always behind the eight-ball ? This type of illegal conduct to use the DoJ attorneys general to maliciously prosecute political opponents was the key to the rovian scheme of 100 year Republican Party majority rule.

  46. Vanthomas Says:

Now that he is in the private sector, someone needs to “deal” with him in a violent manner.

  50. Tstatguy Says:

    Hey Hendler,

This thread is about Karl Rove. Why do you think we care what Peggy Noonan thinks about anybody?

  51. gummitch Says:

And TP takes this and falsely spins it into: “Rove refused to speak with 60 Minutes for the piece.” Shameless.

    Comment by good_golly — February 22, 2008 @ 8:39 am

And goon_golly is dumb enough to believe that 60 Minutes didn’t attempt to fact check with Rove prior to finishing the piece. Gormless.

  52. 99Luf Balloons Says:

I want ROVE dangling from a noose.

  53. gummitch Says:

In its statement, CBS said Rove declined to speak with “60 Minutes.” from the AP and others.

    Goon_golly owes TP an apology.

This isn’t the first time Rove has pulled the same stunt, refusing to answer questions from a reporter and then claiming that no one had contacted him. He’s made a career out of lying, but the Bush apologist troll is still trying to spin Rove as an honorable person.

  54. 99Luf Balloons Says:

  57. Art Says:

Rove didn’t want the pictures for any official action.

He just wanted the pictures for his private collection.

  58. The Republic of Stupidity Says:

Just a thought here. Is this why Botch was so desperate to get the telelcomms immunity last week? That he knew 60 Minutes was going to run this piece this week, and once it did, his chance of getting Super-extended Spy Powers and immunity for all involved would officially become a cooked goose?

Is this the sort of unrestricted domestic spying Botch & Co wanted to do?

  59. Evergreen2U Says:

I feel a wave of hideous revulsion when I think of this creature called Rove.
