If you are an advertiser you are for the most part not going to touch anything that is so clearly negative and/or controversial, period. Even in a broad sense, if I were an advertiser I would consider it much more risky to advertise on a cable network that airs programming like this, so I might be inclined to spend my money elsewhere.

The other consideration is that virtually no one watches programs like this. The ratings for most asus s5000a battery, asus s5a battery HBO documentaries are generally extremely low, but HBO doesn’t really care (they have so much money that they don’t really pay attention).

> Why wouldn’t any mainstream media outlet air a very popular movie? Probably because they are all corrupt…

No, it's simpler. MSM is funded by advertising. If they go for such movie, significant part of advertising will be pulled. Unlike jake1234, I did not work for the media, but it's obvious even for me.

> Why does Discovery think we don’t deserve to know what is going on in our name?

Discovery does not think that. As they said, this has nothing to do with the public or journalism, but instead with their stock offering. It's pure business decision, and most likely it's right decision, i.e. they would indeed lost money. If public company acts not in the best interest of shareholders, the shareholders can sue it. From the moment media organization becomes public, you can't expect them to be driven by public interest, or journalistic ethics and so forth.

Let's have a wager, how soon HBO will announce that it pulls the film because it's too controversial, or anti-semitic, and they received so many calls expressing concern. I say, in two weeks from now. Quite likely, there will be some apologies forthcoming for offending the feelings of victims of 9/11, or of Holocaust survivors, or something else.

Sorry, almost all of you guys are clueless. I've worked for both Discovery and HBO....

Discovery is an ad-supported cable network. HBO does not have advertising.

The ratings for most HBO documentaries are generally extremely low, but HBO doesn't really care (they have so much money that they don't really pay attention). Similarly documentaries are very cheap to acquire (typically less than $100K), so it just doesn't make much difference to HBO either way.

Freedom of information. How can people make decisions on things if they don't have the necessary information? Go HBO for not censoring...

Not that it matters, but Citizen Kane also BOMBED in the theater... it is now considered the greatest film of all time...

Box Office equals quality and importance only in the twisted minds of those who believe that "Armageddon" and "Titanic" were among the greatest stories ever shot on celluloid.

They're admittedly fun but hardly "essential."

When you're only shown on 14 screens nationwide it's kinda hard to post million dollar numbers... considering that this is a documentary and cost a pittance to make I think that they did fairly well...
How much has Hillary- The Movie made? Farenhype 911? what did that one pull down?

I hope this is the beginning of the end for McCorpse. Do I hear Schmuckabee chuckling in the background?
Comment by Exit Stage Left

I'm kind of hoping it's not the end for him. I want him to be the candidate. If he drops out now, we will probably bet Romney back or end up with Huckabee, even though I think they would both be easy to beat too.

Yes, this is the same man who has been pretending to have changed his evil ways. He’s conned some of the people with his POW war hero stuff and that’s about to be scrutinized now as well. Evidently, he’s not quite the self-proclaimed “war hero” he purports himself to be.

Here's the war hero the right is talking about:

At the Academy, aside being known as a "rowdy, raunchy, underachiever" who resented authority, Midshipman McCain became infamous as a leader among his fellow midshipmen for organizing "off-Yard activities" and hard drinking parties. Robert Timberg wrote in his book, The Nightingale's Song, that "being on liberty with John McCain was like being in a train wreck."

McCain's grades were "marginal." He drew so many demerits for breaking curfew and other discipline issues that he graduated fifth from the bottom of the class of 1958. Despite his low "class standing," and no doubt because of the influence of his family of famous Admirals, McCain was leap-frogged ahead of more qualified applicants and granted a coveted slot to be trained as a navy pilot.

McCain Lost Five Military Aircraft - McCain, the "below par" pilot, eventually lost 5 military aircraft, the first during a training flight in 1958 when he plunged into Corpus Christi Bay while trying to land. The Navy ignored the crash and graduated McCain in 1960.

At the Academy, aside being known as a “rowdy, raunchy, underachiever” who resented authority, Midshipman McCain became infamous as a leader among his fellow midshipmen for organizing “off-Yard activities” and hard drinking parties. Robert Timberg wrote in his book, The Nightingale’s Song, that “being on liberty with John McCain was like being in a train wreck.”

McCain’s grades were “marginal.” He drew so many demerits for breaking curfew and other discipline issues that he graduated fifth from the bottom of the class of 1958. Despite his low “class standing,” and no doubt because of the influence of his family of famous Admirals, McCain was leap-frogged ahead of more qualified applicants and granted a coveted slot to be trained as a navy pilot.

McCain Lost Five Military Aircraft – McCain, the “below par” pilot, eventually lost 5 military aircraft, the first during a training flight in 1958 when he plunged into Corpus Christi Bay while trying to land. The Navy ignored the crash and graduated McCain in 1960.

We are proud that Taxi to the Dark Side will make its basic cable debut in 2009 on Investigation Discovery, the network dedicated to providing in-depth programs that challenge viewers’ perceptions on important issues shaping our culture and defining our world as long as it doesn't offend any of our rich patrons and as long as it isn't before the election. There, I fixed it for them.

What a bunch of cowards the people at Discovery are. I am very disappointed in them and will be letting them know what I think of their cowardice. Good for HBO for having the balls to show this important film BEFORE the election. It is especially important because McCain supports the things that Bush has done which means that he is quite likely to do the same.

sorry OT:

But message to any fellow Texans not familiar with the primary process. You must go to your voting location on March 4 and sign the Caucus petition.

Simply voting is NOT ENOUGH.
