Springsteen, Young, Pearl Jam make anti-war soundtrack.

“Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young and Peal Jam have contributed tunes to the anti-war soundtrack for a documentary about a U.S. soldier paralyzed in Iraq. The 30-song, two-disc album ‘Body of War: Songs That Inspired an Iraq War Veteran’ will be released March 18 via Warner Music’s Sire Records label. All proceeds from the sale of the album will benefit Iraq Veterans Against the War.”

  4. Johnnie.Flea says:

It’s always been fashionable for pro-preemptive war, hawkish Republicans to only report the number of American military deaths in Iraq, currently 3973 brave volunteer men and women, and not report the number of wounded and amputee soldiers, currently 28773. Also, it’s fashionable that pro-war Americans justify a war based on 3000 deaths in New York, without any regards to the estimated 81,000 to 88,000 Iraqi civilian deaths directly resulting from George Bush’s and the Republican establishment’s decision to invade Iraq. So how many civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan have to die in order for pro-war Americans to feel they have retribution for 3000 deaths in New York?

WASHINGTON — Governors of both parties strongly objected on Saturday to a half-dozen new federal Medicaid regulations that they said would shift billions of dollars in costs to the states, forcing them to consider cutbacks in services.

The whole thread. I’ve probably listened to much of what you posted. The thing with me is, I have trouble recalling whether I listened to certain music by the title.

I like Phil Collins and The Police, though.

  21. impeachcheneythenbush says:

This is off-topic, but I just registered on Taylor Marsh’s blog (new requirement) but can’t get in to refute a statement they are running. I was not allowed to post previously (not banned…my posts just never appeared at all). They have a video of an anti-war protest and other footage of civil rights marches, obviously meant to remind Clinton’s supporters of the generation that participated in these actions. The focus of the story is Obama not attending the Annual State of the Black Union forum in New Orleans. My point: That website suppresses opinions other than those they support (in other words, support Obama and you aren’t allowed to be heard), and that video….please! I am a member of that generation and marched in the 60’s and 70’s for both civil rights AND against the Vietnam war. The Clintons are trying to associate themselves with that time, and perhaps they were involved. But if they were, they lost their idealism a long time ago. These people are Centrist Democrats….NOT the true left, as they are frequently accused by the Right. Complete joke.

And now Clinton is attacking Obama on CNN, stating that his campaign is imitating the worst of the Republican campaigns. Frankly, if Clinton wins the nomination, I have every intention to vote for her, because I don’t want a Republican to get the Presidency. Now, and perhaps forever. But she (and/or her campaign) is threatening to tear apart any ability to strengthen and unite the Dem party. That’s what we need…not another Republican majority in the Congress within a short time again.

    d) she had a planted ‘reporter’ lobbing softball questions at her ala Bush-style. I expected better of her than that
e)she is ‘republican-lite’ The only good Republican is the one that’s dead
    f) unleashing Bill in with some less-than-flattering digs at Obama
    g) NO phucking way will I vote for her if she gets the nomination because of a-f. I will vote Green or Communist before Billary.

You are correct. I came of age in the Vietnam era. I remember the assassination of JFK, the civil rights movement in the early 60s, etc. In some ways, I really do miss those times, even though there were a lot of bummers going on.

I guess what I miss the most was that we felt like that we really could make a difference. And in some ways, we did succeed beyond our wildest hopes.

But today, I see a lot of apathy. More people would rather stay home and watch American Idol than march in the streets against an unjust war and a rogue administration.

Most death, destruction, war and opression has been forwarded to us by completely useless male-dominated religions all around the world.

Especially the abuse of women and children at the hands of most all mainstream religions!!!

While I will not disagree on the basic premise, Sky God Religion is now the front office for the Rich Fascist-types, who sit in the back rooms and conspire on how to hoodwink the public. Religion is completely useless, in my opinion, in a combination compassionate and technological society. As long as people FEAR, then Male dominated religions will exist. Of course, on the flip side, I have seen some insane female Pagans, who maybe were not real Wiccans, but really hated men.

  35. DieNowForPeace says:

On a clear, cool morning in Dallas, a slow flying aircraft was towing a banner which read:

STOP THE WAR BOYCOTT EXXON MOBIL SHELL

    Seems there’s a movement afoot:

Texans, Iraqi oil workers partner for campaign

“The main goal we hope for is to raise awareness among the consumer public that these oil companies are in large part responsible for the Iraq war,” said Trish Major, communications director for the Dallas Peace Center. “We hope to put a dent in their profits with our boycott. It would be a way to show our elected officials how we feel about the war.”

The groups are encouraging people to buy oil from companies other than Exxon Mobil, Shell and British Petroleum.

In Dallas, demonstrations are planned at 11 a.m. Feb. 23, with the primary gathering spot being the intersection of Preston Road and Royal Lane.

The Iraqi Federation of Oil Unions is the country’s largest assembly of oil workers, formed in 2003 in peaceful opposition to the U.S.-led invasion.

Honestly, I felt proud and electrified when I looked up and saw that small plane.
