Kristol: ‘I Recommend The Politics Of Fear’»

This morning on Fox News Sunday, New York Times columnist Bill Kristol recommended that Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) employ the “politics of fear” to attack Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL):

KRISTOL: [Obama’s] riding a wave of euphoria. She [Clinton] needs to puncture it. The way you puncture euphoria is reality, or to be more blunt, fear. I recommend to Senator Clinton the politics of fear.

Kristol explained that his fear-mongering political strategy would focus on Iran. He recommended that Clinton say the following about Obama: “He wants to negotiate on January 21st with Ahmadinejad. Here’s what Ahmadinejad has said about blowing up Israel.” Watch it:

Kristol has invested heavily in a strategy of convincing policymakers to bomb Iran. Here’s some examples of what Kristol has advocated:

– “We could in a military confrontation with Iran much sooner than people expect.”

– The Iranian people would embrace “the right use of targeting military force.”

– President Bush “could easily build political support” for an attack on Iran “at the beginning of 2008.”

Because the concept of engaging Iran is a threat to Kristol’s agenda, he appears desperate to do all he can to delegitimize the idea of negotiation. As Kristol’s Fox News colleage Juan Williams has said, all Kristol wants is “war, war, war.”

Ah, yes. Another pithy, insightful comment from Little Billy Kristol — the Eddie Haskell of the Sunday morning talk shows.

Gotta admit, though. When it comes to the politics of fear, Little Billy is an expert.

What a defective intellect! What was the NYTimes thinking?

  6. fletc3her Says:

Oh yes, of course, Hillary Clinton should adopt the policies of an extreme right-wing ideologue. That will help her during the Democratic primary. At the same time she might want to endorse the Iraq War, deny global warming, pledge to ban abortion, promise to torture everyone she can get her hands on, deport every immigrant, and hell why not deny the Dinosaurs existed and commit to teaching theology in the public schools. I’m sure the Democratic primary-goers will go for it.

  7. Ditch Mitch KY Says:

Good idea, Billy. Sounds like you want to bolster the failing Clinton campaign — with the politics of FEAR. Nice touch.

So do ya think that when this man gets up from underneath his rock, he says lets go down to and get some onion rings with lots of fear sauce on top. It seems to be the common condiment that about all these neocon BS artists

And he LAUGHS when he says it!

It’s a political tool that has worked for the rethugs, and the smug Kristol takes perverse glee in exploiting the fear that they create.

  12. Xisithrus Says:

Dear Demented Billy Kristol, Fear is a tactic used by terrorists.

  13. Cal Malenky Says:

Billy K would love to see Hillary as the Dem nominee, so he’s working up the Obama fear factor. He’s counting on what he sees as the widespread loathing of Ms Clinton to keep the GOP in the WH. Kristol Lite is afraid of Barack Obama.
So the Iranians would “embrace the right use of military force” if the bombs start dropping in Persia.
Tell us, Bill, how well that worked in Iraq.
It’s baffling how someone who’s been wrong on EVERYTHING for the past 8 years still gets a forum in the national media.

Stassen was later best known for being a perennial candidate for the Republican Party nomination for President, seeking it nine times between 1948 and 1992 (1948, 1952, 1964, 1968, 1976, 1980, 1984, 1988, 1992) but never winning it or, after 1952, even coming close. He did receive votes at the Republican National Convention as late as 1968 when he won two votes for president (one from Minnesota and the other from Ohio).

I was so hoping that she had decided to go out gracefully after her ending to the last debate. But, it’s beginning to look like that isn’t going to happen. I suspect that is Bill’s influence over her. I really do think that Hillary Clinton is, in her heart, a good person. I think she allows Bill too much influence over her. Nader just can’t get over himself. He is all ego and nothing else. But, I suspect that his 3rd party candidacy is going to tank really quickly. There’s no way that any Democrat or Independent is going to vote for him knowing that they are giving a vote to the Republiscum party by voting for Nader.

  55. bilbobaggins Says:

Has anyone besides me noticed that the trolls are getting uglier by the minute? Why does TP allow this? Why don’t they institute a rule that if you post simply to incite, you are gone. I get the idea that their moderation is spotty at best and non-existent on the weekends.

But he refuses to acknowledge that it was our governments intervention in other nations, always to the detriment of their people which created all this. And Iraq exasperates all prior US screwups a trillion fold. Bush and his rogue admin have created thousands of extremists who want to hurt us. And they will succeed at some point. And Bush et al will be responsible. But I forgot Bush knows nothing about responsibility.

We are so screwed and it’s the likes of te chairman of PNAC, Bill Kristol that did it to us, our children, and our grand children.

  64. bilbobaggins Says:

God yes! VOTE NADER! He’s going to suck those few McCain indies who still buy into the straight talk express nonsense. For once his running is a good thing.

I disagree. I think that Nader will pull many more Independents who are leaning Democratic than those who are leaning Republican. Everything that Nader has to say is the complete opposite of McCain. So why would anyone leaning towards McCain vote for Nader? The only reason why I can see them doing that is because they can’t vote for Obama because he is Black. It’s sad how much racism we still have in this country.

  68. CDM Says:

The “Protocols of Zion” are supposed an anti-Semitic myth? So why are these Jewish neocons then so intent on on proving them entirely correct….?

    PROTOCOL No. 7

    1. The intensification of armaments, the increase of police forces - are all essential for the completion of the aforementioned plans. What we have to get at is that there should be in all the States of the world, besides ourselves, only the masses of the proletariat, a few millionaires devoted to our interests, police and soldiers.

    2. Throughout all Europe, and by means of relations with Europe, in other continents also, we must create ferments, discords and hostility. Therein we gain a double advantage. In the first place we keep in check all countries, for they will know that we have the power whenever we like to create disorders or to restore order. All these countries are accustomed to see in us an indispensable force of coercion. In the second place, by our intrigues we shall tangle up all the threads which we have stretched into the cabinets of all States by means of the political, by economic treaties, or loan obligations. In order to succeed in this we must use great cunning and penetration during negotiations and agreements, but, as regards what is called the “official language,” we shall keep to the opposite tactics and assume the mask of honesty and complacency. In this way the peoples and governments of the GOYIM, whom we have taught to look only at the outside whatever we present to their notice, will still continue to accept us as the benefactors and saviours of the human race.

    UNIVERSAL WAR

    3. We must be in a position to respond to every act of opposition by war with the neighbors of that country which dares to oppose us: but if these neighbors should also venture to stand collectively together against us, then we must offer resistance by a universal war.

    4. The principal factor of success in the political is the secrecy of its undertakings: the word should not agree with the deeds of the diplomat.

    5. We must compel the governments of the GOYIM to take action in the direction favored by our widely conceived plan, already approaching the desired consummation, by what we shall represent as public opinion, secretly promoted by us through the means of that so-called “Great Power” - THE PRESS, WHICH, WITH A FEW EXCEPTIONS THAT MAY BE DISREGARDED, IS ALREADY ENTIRELY IN OUR HANDS.

    6. In a word, to sum up our system of keeping the governments of the goyim in Europe in check, we shall show our strength to one of them by terrorist attempts and to all, if we allow the possibility of a general rising against us, we shall respond with the guns of America or China or Japan.”

  69. Ms_Joanne Says:

Why? Because people who pay attention know just what you said. That’s what…20% of the dumb a$$ citizens of our fair land.

WE know. WE pay attention. Most don’t. Those who see McNutbag in the light of indie - but who lean towards goopers will be turned off by the war for generations thing. I think he’d give up more votes to Nader than any del. And I think Obama is pretty solid from indies who want something other than the same old same old. Those on the fence at this point are goop ers.

The biased media against Hillary Clinton has swayed voters to Obama. Biased media has shifted poll numbers in favor of Obama. Her campaign has made a number of tactical errors as well, including their decision essentially to ignore the caucus states and concentrate on the big delegate counts - but even in the big states that she won, she only got a slice of the delegates.

It’s up to a majority of the American people to do that… but teenagers are Americans, too.
Alot of Americans seem to like Obama and want him to be president- that’s why he keeps winning Democratic primaries with numbers 3 times as large as those of all the Republican candidates combined…
IF he gets the nomination I predict he will win, but then I expect either of them to win, and to be better for America in the first 7 months than the last 7 years of Republican rule…

That’s a good argument but you’re omitting what the ‘adults’ in the White House have done the last 8 years….from the moment they took
possession when they lied about vandalism and theft committed by the outgoing administration, you remember that …..except that when an outraged Republican demanded the General Accounting Office tabulate the damages……oops..THERE WAS NO DAMAGE OR THEFT.. we never heard much about that part in the press.

It’s too long a list but I’ll give you a partial list of what else the ‘adult’ administration accomplished the last 8 years……
1.) took a record budget surplus and turned it into a record deficit
2.) Conned the country into invading a country under false pretenses
3.) We have one adult in the White House (Safavian) convicted of theft
and another convicted for shoplifting at Target’s.
4.) Had a VP accidently shoot a man in the face after having “just one beer” and waiting hours to speak to police.
5.) The adults outed a CIA agent and then lied to a grand jury and the F.B.I. during the investigation.
6.) The adults had a gay male escort pose as a reporter to ask fluff questions at White House press conferences(White House regular Jeff Gannon).
7.) The adults also posed as reporters to ask questions at their own press conferences(Homeland Security)
8.) The adults lied at Congressional hearings and ignored Congressional subpoenas.

I could go on and on but I can’t sit at the computer all day typing maybe someone else can continue the list.

I agree teenagers can lack maturity, but I think most teenagers would take something as working in the White House pretty seriously and they would be hard pressed to top the current “Animal House” bunch occupying the White House in irresponsibility, laziness, dishonesty and lack of respect for Government traditions and institutions.

The truth is the Republicans are afraid of politics, afraid of honest debate and open, honest elections. They are afraid because when we have them- they lose. All Republican election strategies revolve around reducing turnout and participation, because larger turnouts equal Democratic victories.
Both Kristol and Delafield are afraid they’ve created a monster in Obama and now wish that they had backed Hillary in the primaries as they think that McCain has a chance of beating her- what they don’t realize is that they have already had an effect on this year’s election…
8 years of neo-con mismanagement has convinced a majority of Americans, including more young people than in recent memory, that they have a stake and a say in this years election-
THAT participation is what scares the Republicans- and they are right to be afraid- they are over.
Pakistan’s recent election proves that when turnouts are large even electioneering and ballot-stuffing doesn’t work- that’s the politics of fear on the Republican side.
We will not be distracted, and we will work to elect Democrats in every district and precinct and the Democrats will win with such a large majority that all the Republican’s tricks and treachery will be useless.
No one is afraid of you cowering cowards or your boogey-men…

DAYTON, Ohio — Sen. Hillary Clinton ratcheted up her attacks on Sen. Barack Obama today, comparing his campaign tactics to those of George W. Bush and urging Ohioans to see past his momentum.

“Enough with the speeches and the big rallies and then using tactics that are right out of Karl Rove’s playbook,” Mrs. Clinton told reporters at a press conference today.

She clutched two negative fliers sent to Ohio voters by the Obama campaign that she says make false claims about her position on health care and trade agreements. “Shame on you Barack Obama. Uh oh, Dela- did you see this?

“McCain staffers concerned as Montgomery Burns announces presidential bid.”

A source close to the campaign revealed on the condition of anonymity, that the unpopular and decidedly un-sexy Simpsons character has them worried. ‘If he’s as boring and as evil as he is unappealing, we could be in real trouble come November. People who take these elections seriously will recognize that unpopularity as a sign of real strength and leadership. A Burns administration could supplant Bush as the least popular of all time- and if that is food for thought, I don’t know what is…”

Well, that didn’t work very well either. we invaded, and now they’re collecting. $1.2 million a week to stop them from shooting at us. Pallets of hundreds flown into Iraq, disappearing without a receipt in sight.

There are evil people out there wishing to do us harm. Most democrats and liberals seem to be oblivious to this. They’d rather live in the Obama-cult where everybody’s a friend and people can sing Kumbaya and hold hands. Wake up. The world is not like that. Either they get us or we get them. Your choice. It’s not fearmongering when it’s based on reality.

    Like father, like son….

“Irving Kristol (born January 22, 1920, Brooklyn, New York City, New York) is considered the founder of American neoconservatism. He is married to conservative author and emerita professor Gertrude Himmelfarb and is the father of William Kristol.

Kristol was born into an Orthodox Jewish family, and had a bar mitzvah. However, he maintains that belief had nothing to do with his family’s observance. He earned his B.A. in History from the City College of New York in 1940, where he was an active Trotskyist. Before graduating, he met Gertrude Himmelfarb at a Trotskyist meeting, and they married on January 18, 1942…

    Kristol suggests of himself, “Ever since I can remember, I’ve been a neo-something: a neo-Marxist, a neo-Trotskyist, a neo-liberal, a neo-conservative; in religion a neo-orthodox even while I was a neo-Trotskyist and a neo-Marxist. I’m going to end up a neo-that’s all, neo dash nothing.”

In July 2002, President George W. Bush awarded [Irving] Kristol the Presidential Medal of Freedom…”

  167. blutopie Says:

Resistance to the Neocons is Antisemitic - that’s the scam the Neocons have been running

Why is there little to no serious discussion about the catastrophic neoconservative foreign policies and the wars this Bush’s neocon regime and warmongers like William Kristol have instigated? Why no public discussion regarding the greatest strategic blunder in American history?

The reason is thus - any such serious discussion or education of the public of regarding the neocons or their disastrous policies brings rubble-bouncing charges of antisemitism down upon one - as happened with Jimmy Carter with the publishing of ‘Palestine: Peace not Apartheid”.

Result - no discussion of the Neocons and no ability to defend ourselves against them let alone stop them or remove them from power.

Thus the Neocons have created the perfect defense for themselves - any resistance to the Neocons is Antisemitic - which is why the general public cannot get past Bush’s inane explanation of ‘Why they hate us’. William Kristol is a mass-murderer and should be on trial for crimes against humanity along with 3/4’s of the nazi-neocon regime running our country

Cakewalk Resolution of the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict - or - ‘How to Melt the Wicked Neocon Witch William Kristol’

Everybody knows the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is at the core of problems in the middle east - the Baker-Hamilton Iraq Study Group knows this, Jimmy Carter knows it, Pat Bucanon, Obama, Edwards, Kucinich, Ron Paul, Nader, Hagel, Feingold all know it and as a matter of fact everybody knows it. It is simply uncontested by any sane person that resolution of this conflict is at the very heart of peace in the middle east and the wars America is currently fighting and will be fighting in the coming months.

Guess what? - the solution was just sitting there in front of our faces all along and it’s a cakewalk - what America needs to do first is to exert tremendous and overwhelming political pressure on Israel - America needs to LEAD the international effort to put this UN-violating country back in it’s pre-67 box as demanded by the UN time and again rather than time and again VETOING that very pressure from the international community. Sure - conforming to these UN Sec Council Resolution 242, 194, 338, the Geneva Conventions, and International Law will be a pinch for Israel and just exactly what the Israel Lobby, AIPAC, and the neocons don’t want to happen - so what?

So what’s stopping us putting this pressure on Israel? - could the Israelis, her Israel Lobby, and her Neocons be stopping this pressure which is
