Torture advocate William Haynes resigns.

Torture advocate William Haynes resigns.

Defense Department General Counsel William Haynes, who was a “prime mover” in the Bush administration’s efforts to bypass the Geneva Convention, announced today that he “is returning to private life next month.” Already a controversial figure due to his torture advocacy, the negative spotlight on Haynes increased last week when former Gitmo prosecutor Col. Morris Davis told The Nation that Haynes had insisted that the administration “can’t have acquittals” at Guantanamo Bay. More on Haynes’ role in the Bush administration here.

If we let these people return to their “private lives” without paying for what they’ve done to this country the US won’t be the same until long after we’re all gone. We need to get the good name of this nation back.

  2. natisman says:

I agree about a 110%, but no trials until the the new crew gets in office, if it is done before January when Bush is still in office then they can mis-try the trials and Bush-ola can always send those guys home with a signature, if he wants to.

Then we will be look like real scmucks and the the constitution will look even worse.

This administration (for lack of a better word) is, from the top on down, full of sick, demented, delusional and sadistic people. I don’t think there is a single one that has had a passing relationship with anything resembling integrity and/or dignity in the last 20 years of their lives. Honesty? That was buried long ago.

    OT but worth it.

I find this comment highly offensive to marsupials.

Do we need our own PNAC? Do we need to crystalize the liberal/progressive agenda/plan for responsible/MORAL control of AMERICA for the next millenium? On paper for all to see, SANS the 911 plans like the PNAC.

Who else here wants to bet that this bag of bile was integral in the destruction of the torture tapes? There isn’t enough money in the deepest pockets of the GOP supporters that are left to fund legal defenses for all of the king’s men after the new Administration moves in and the old one begins to scurry like cockroaches when a light is turned on. They are all trying to make these quiet exits before the end comes hoping they will be forgotten but many of us have long memories and can’t forget all of the enablers that have offered their unfaultering devotion in aiding this criminal Administration to push it’s warped sense of ideals and lust for absolute power on our nation and the world.

Isn’t that kinda what the Center for American Progress does?

I mean, it’s a good idea in theory, but it may be more difficult to actually put on paper. There’s a lot of difference within the liberal/progressive community on what policies to pursue to solve all the economic and social and global problems facing our country.

It might be best to start with an agreement on baseline principles to strive for in all policies, and I offer a few suggestions of good starting points:

    Universal Declaration of Human Rights
International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights
    The Earth Charter

if we can agree on these basic principles of the unalienable rights of people, peoples, and the planet, we can begin formulating policy that protects all three.

Yep, anyone who studies the history of Washington over the last 30 some-odd years can see that pattern clearly.

  28. williamf says:

This guy, a lawyer, a purveyor of torture needs his law license yanked. To suggest torture, to specifically detail what can “legally done” in the torture tombs is an absurdity for an officer of the court. Much the same as it’s lunacy to employ “medical professionals” to participate in the killing of a convict. Surely the canons of ethics for the ABA don’t allow or give specific permission to lawyers to come up with ideas to hurt people! So, now he’s going to sneak back home and everything will be alright????
