Wash. Times cuts right-wing rhetoric from style guide.

When the Washington Times named former Washington Post reporter John Solomon as the paper’s new executive editor, ThinkProgress criticized the decision due to Solomon’s controversial record. But, to Solomon’s credit, he is updating the Washington Times’ style guide by removing some of the “hard-line conservative rhetoric” that was common in the paper:

1) Clinton will be the headline word for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.

2) Gay is approved for copy and preferred over homosexual, except in clinical references or references to sexual activity.

3) The quotation marks will come off gay marriage (preferred over homosexual marriage).

4) Moderate is approved, but centrist is still allowed.

5) We will use illegal immigrants, not illegal aliens.

The only possible use for the Washington Times is to wipe one’s ass, but extreme caution is advised, it may give you a rash.

  2. Wayne says:

The Times is another moonie paper, which follows Rev Moon’s doctrine of “heavenly deception”.

  3. RUCerious says:

So they’re reserving the word ‘aliens’ for moonie UFO visitors?

  4. ralph the wonder llama says:

Perhaps the Moonie Times sees approaching the end of the NeoCon era, and hopes to be taken seriously by people other than the discredited losers in town?

  5. bobcat_grad says:

Those steps seem stragely rational and a step in the right direction. Quick, someone check the thermometer in hell.

  6. kassandrasduplex says:

Now they only need cut about 7/8ths of the actual printed material in the paper and it would be near perfection…

what’s with the righties gettin’ all “politically correct” on us?

Republicans worried about being labeled bigots

The Republican National Committee has commissioned polling and focus groups to determine the boundaries of attacking a minority or female candidate, according to people involved. The secretive effort underscores the enormous risk senior GOP operatives see for a party often criticized for its insensitivity to minorities in campaigns dating back to the 1960s

    *laughs*

That’s awesome. It’s OK to be a bigot, just not to be labeled as one.

It’s all in the message, right?

    More neutral ‘newspeak’?

Something like that. My theory – they want to keep their circulation numbers up after the coming neocon exodus of November 2008.

    good point, joe…

we should always give credit where it’s due…
we don’t do that enough… no one does, really… and we all need it…

  13. The Dogfather says:

Despite this apparent moderation, we in the DC metro area still won’t use the Times for anything other than (a) wrapping fish, (b) lining the bottoms of birdcages, and (c) starting a fire in the fireplace.

  14. dictatortot says:

I’m glad there are no style guides ruling the blogosphere, though there are still speech codes infringing on the First Amendment in colleges around the country. Political correctness is BS, whether leftist or rightist.

And language above all things should be free and democratic.

I don’t understand, trying to make it appear less insane is somehow good? This means people on the edge of reason are going to be fooled into thinking it is less than a religion of money that owns the rag.

this is compromised thinking? You would help legitimize a company that is based on crime? I can’t believe my eyes here, this is not the normal Think Progress would say something good about such a fraud?

I hope this story gets re valued and some explanation of it is forthcoming?

  16. dbadass says:

This is really funny. I hope someone more amusing than I really takes this to a higher level. I can see a lot of funny options especially with the creative (yet moderate) use of quotation marks or better yet gay illegal immigrant Clinton quotation marks.

  17. Leftside Annie says:

Wow. That’s mighty …white of them.

  18. dbadass says:

Now we need to work on the New York Times. If you cite one side, you need to cite the other to be intelectually honest.

So why are there all those weird ules about which countries we will talk openly with and which we won’t? Is it that as a nation we are “intellectually dishonest”?

  19. Marie says:

But the WT will instead pay pseudo experts to slime Democrats.

  20. Lefty Patriot says:

, then we can begin open talks. Until then, we are wasting our time.

I can’t decide which is more foolish, your stupidity or naivete. Your understanding of diplomacy and foreign policy is nonexistent.

In case you weren’t clear on what a classy lot this wingnut bunch is, Malkin’s site has published (a) the email address of the person who sent round this email; and (b) the all Times employees email address.

I won’t post the link to the relevant page here, but the homepage is http://michellemalkin.com and it’s pretty clear after that where this wingnut terrorism can be found.

I’d be interested to see if someone can follow-up on the unhinged email that I imagine is flooding into the Times. Whilst I have little time for the Moonie outfit, Malkin is a total jerk for publishing what she did, though it’s obviously not the first time she has done this.
