Yesterday, Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson (R-TX) — who is being suggested as a possible running mate for John McCain — said that Sen. Russ Feingold’s bill to begin an Iraq withdrawal within 120 days puts “a bullet right in the hearts of our troops who are there.” Politico reports that Hutchinson’s staff backtracked from her comment, arguing that she meant to say “bull’s eye.” Accepting that claim, Hutchinson meant to say Feingold’s bill puts a “bulls’ eye in the hearts of our troops,” a statement which makes no sense.
UPDATE: McJoan has more.

Yeah Yeah Kay. Weren’t you the one who said there was no crime in the Scooter Libby case, and then you ate crow due to all the crap you said about Bubba? STFU Kay!

February 27th, 2008 at 10:30 amHey, know what else puts a bulls eye in the heart of our troops?
Invading a country for no reason.

February 27th, 2008 at 10:36 am“WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD”…
Are we still talking about Iraq, shouldn’t that already be a foregone conclusion? Why can’t we talk about REAL ISSUES like prison reform, education, and the reduction of poverty! I’m happy that we’re finally talking about Health Care, but Health Care, Iraq, and Immigration are not the only issues that warrant discussion!
Instead we are subjected to pictures of Obama in Muslim clothing, fliers about Hillary Clinton’s health care plan, rash accusations of plagiarism, and all kinds of shady political gamesmanship.
February 27th, 2008 at 10:37 amAnother ex-cheerleading texas politician. Hey, Kay… don’t you have a couple of daughters that should be fighting your good fight?
Well lookie here.
Kay Bailey Hutchison is a top Senate recipient from the following industries for the 2005-2006 election cycle:
Oil & Gas (#1)
Livestock (#2)
cheerleading all the way… hey,Kay?
February 27th, 2008 at 10:37 amDo you REALLY want to know what DID put a bullet in the heart of our troops?
Sending them into an illegal, immoral, and completely unjustified war based on lies in the 1st place, and keeping them in a quagmire.
February 27th, 2008 at 10:38 amRight Senator Hutchinson, it is better to leave our troops there to be kept in harms way. And when they are injured you Republicans do your best to deny them care, throw them away because they are no longer useful fodder for your lies. And you could care less about the ongoing hardships the families of the troops are suffering. If the troops aren’t brought home, your should serve out your term in Iraq. On second thought, that would not be fair - to Iraq. It would be nice if someone would find the rock you crawled out from under and put you back under it!
February 27th, 2008 at 10:39 amLast time I checked, real bullets do a little more damage than figurative ones.
February 27th, 2008 at 10:40 amIsnt a troop reduction, standing down as they stand up, a form of withdrawal?
I find that paying no attention to politicians words sure makes issues easier to understand. This is just more rhetoric designed to use the troops to garner votes.
Stop it.
February 27th, 2008 at 10:41 amHutchinson would have a major breakthrough if she made any sense.
Ever.
I hope McCainiac chooses her…
No Country for Old Men.
February 27th, 2008 at 10:41 amAccepting that claim, Hutchinson meant to say Feingold’s bill puts a “bulls’ eye in the hearts of our troops,†a statement which makes no sense.
February 27th, 2008 at 10:41 amAnd since when has any Republican ever made any sense whatsoever ?
More gloom and doom from Hutchinson.
February 27th, 2008 at 10:41 amBy removing our troops from harms way we are putting bullets in their hearts. This is the type of logic that will be the undoing of the republican party.
February 27th, 2008 at 10:42 amWait, maybe she meant ballot box! Or bugle call! Or Bangladesh!
February 27th, 2008 at 10:44 amIsn’t she late for a hair appointment?
February 27th, 2008 at 10:44 amBull’s eye means they are going to be shot at. Bullet means they have been shot at. Rhetorically, I don’t see a lot of difference. The end result would be the troops being dead.
Given that troops stationed in America have a lower death toll than troops stationed in Iraq, this statement seems rather far off the mark.
I would label it as inflammatory rhetoric designed to derail the honest debate about the use of our military.
February 27th, 2008 at 10:44 amIt sounds to me like Kay thinks we are doing the troops a BIG favor by keeping them in a hell hole where they get shot at daily and drive inadequately armored vehicles over land mines.
HEY KAY, IRAQ AIN’T NO 5-STAR BERMUDA RESORT!
We aren’t really supporting the troops by keeping them there and away from their families. If the Republipukes really supported the troops, they would find a way to bring them home. Instead, the Republipukes really support their friends in the defense industry who won’t have anything to sell if the war ends - that’s why they don’t like the Feingold bill.
February 27th, 2008 at 10:45 amWould someone remind this ancient and senile twit that our soldiers can’t get ammunition unless they steal it from the Taliban. Remind her that we sell as many weapons to the enemies that kill our troops as we provide to our troops.
February 27th, 2008 at 10:45 amany one listening?
That light at the end of tunnel was just the flash of an IED:
“Iraq’s presidential council rejected a measure Wednesday setting up provincial elections, sending it back to parliament in the latest setback to U.S.-backed national reconciliation efforts.”

Hey alpuz3-aside from being a cheerleader who is in the oilco’s pockets she has another piece of history that directly compares her to our current group of criminals in the WH:
In 1993-94 she was indicted for using Gov’t computers and staff to work on her re-election campaign and ordering the deletion of all digital evidence. Although the Treasury dept in TX managed to obtain this computer evidence, the judge would not allow this evidence in the trial. The DA was then forced to drop the case due to the judge’s ruling. Gee, using gov’t computers and staff to forward Republican goals, deleting e-mails…she should fit right in! Go right ahead, McCain. Put her on the ticket!

That was done in 2000 because the President and Vice President must come from different states and Cheney grew up in Wyoming and has a home there but he was living since about college age in Texas and in DC. to the best of my knowledge he voted out of Texas untill 2000.

Cheney was a five term Representative from Wyoming. He was either in Wyoming or DC for most of his adult life, except from 1995 to 2000, when he was CEO of Halliburton, and most likely in Texas.
February 27th, 2008 at 12:19 pmWayne, sorry to see you upset over a little Texas-bashing. My state, Connecticut, tends to get bashed a lot thanks to Lieberman, but, let’s face it, Bush has done even more damage than Lieberman!
Most of my ancestors can probably be considered economic refugees because they came over as a result of the Potato Famine in Ireland that began in 1845.
My understanding is that the Irish were not allowed to own land and about a half a million of them were evicted during the famine by their English landlords.
