A new Zogby poll finds that 67 percent of Americans “believe traditional journalism is out of touch with what Americans want from their news.” Forty-eight percent say that their primary source of news and information comes from the Internet, an increase of eight points from a year ago. The public also views citizen journalism (77 percent) and blogging (59 percent) as important for the future of journalism.

GOOD!
wipe out the MSM
viva la internetS
(it’s not just a bunch of big trucks anymore)

February 27th, 2008 at 4:14 pmNo wonder the MSM is so scared

Since when is the MSM scared of huge profitability, and the amount of influence they have in Washington? The American public’s opinion doesn’t count. Just look to the 2006 election for proof of that.
February 27th, 2008 at 4:26 pmMSM is so wound around the axle trying not to be given the ‘haze’ of having a liberal slant they have become a mouth piece for Bush’s talking points. There have been a few individuals, such as Helen Thomas, that have tried to hold this lying administration accountable but for the most part, MSM caved in. And the joke Fox News (ugh, it even hurts to use that name) spews hate and falsehoods. No wonder people are turning elsewhere. The rest of America is finally waking up and getting tired of hearing lies and fluff pieces over real news.
February 27th, 2008 at 4:30 pmWow. What a surprise.
For the last 7 years, the media has been humping the leg of the Bush administration and serving up pre-digested Republican talking points and attempting to palm it off on us as “news.”
Gee, I wonder why we think they’re “out of touch”…pffft.

Its not a dump truck. Its a SERIES OF TUBES
February 27th, 2008 at 4:36 pmNot so much out of touch as out of mind.
February 27th, 2008 at 4:38 pmAnd the award for most obvious poll results….
“Traditional Journalists are out of touch”
My God.. Next they’ll be telling us that politicians have the brains of retarded slugs.
February 27th, 2008 at 4:48 pmUh ho….that doesn’t bode well for the MSM. Perhaps this is part of the reason why they are starting to actually report the news. They are afraid they will be marginalized and eventually put out of business if they keep up their tilt to the right once our government and country is in the hands of the Democrats.
February 27th, 2008 at 4:48 pmHit ‘em in the pocketbook! Don’t patronize their sponsors!
February 27th, 2008 at 4:49 pmYou mean Glenn Beck isn’t what we want?!
NO! You don’t say!

Because their profitability depends on the people. And with the people of this country leaning left, the MSM is going to have to change their ways if they want to remain profitable.
Because….there’s that free outlet for the news readily available to anyone with a computer. You know, the internets!
February 27th, 2008 at 4:51 pmThere is a solution.
Advertisers merely need to poll their customers on their party affiliation.

Been there, done that and will continue to do it as best I can.
February 27th, 2008 at 4:52 pmThe MSM has long ago turned into mouthpieces and shills for their corporate masters. They can only rarely be trusted to report the truth.
February 27th, 2008 at 5:00 pmWhat amazes me so much is how many MSM journalists have proven to be thin-skinned crybabies when subjected to any scrutiny. They publish utter garbage, then pout when bloggers point out the weakness of their work. Of course intellectual dishonesty is often a factor.
February 27th, 2008 at 5:03 pmYou may be taking a big leap of faith assuming the “out of touch†refers to a conservative bias in the MSM.
Comment by jdc — February 27, 2008 @ 5:04 pm
Corporatist, conservative, what’s the difference?
February 27th, 2008 at 5:17 pmOnly 67%? That plus Bush’s base leaves about 15% who probably didn’t understand the question.
February 27th, 2008 at 5:23 pmIf one today depends on MSM news alone, he will be for sure blind to what’s around him, manipulated, and ignorant.
A major network like Fox ,for example , offers nothing in way of truth, knowledge and unbiasness.
People begin to see this when they see what the internet has to offer.
Anybody who limits himself to these major tv news or newspapers, then he is learning little or basically nothing.
Televisions now good for political gossip labled as news offered by selected and small number of talking heads, to bring dollars to the stations but of
February 27th, 2008 at 7:35 pmno benefit to viewers.
The coporate MSM is just a money making operation.
Keeping the public informed so they can make intelligent decisions in the voting booth is not good for profits.
Doing that would be working against their own interests.
I can’t wait for the audience for Chris Matthews and Russ Potatohead to dry up. Can’t happen soon enough for me.
February 27th, 2008 at 8:21 pmI think the only MSM outlet that leans right is actually doing quite well.
Comment by jdc — February 27, 2008 @ 5:04 pm
NBC? ABC? CBS? which or the many right-leaning outlets are doing well? You can’t be talking about FOX, because the discussion is about news outlets, not fascist lie outlets.

Gee…ya think?!?!
Maybe it’s because traditional journalists have been seriously neglecting their responsibilities to the American people over the last several years. One of the reasons why our Founding Fathers included freedom of the press in the First Amendment of the Constitution is because they had an understanding of just how important and powerful the role of the press is in a free society — the press have the ability to protect the people by acting as a watchdog and exposing corruption, whether in the private or the public sector. However, freedom almost never comes without at least some responsibility — and when the press choose to report only those stories which are “safe” in response to pressure from the government or from corporations who want to keep their skeletons and those of their friends locked up in the closet, they are taking their freedom for granted and neglecting the responsibility that accompanies it.
February 28th, 2008 at 12:22 amThe surprise is that it is not more than 67% that think MSM is out of touch. Russert’s “performance” in the Ohio Democratic debate certainly drove home that point. If MSM journalists want to find out what the American people are thinking they simply need to get out of their ivory tower, get down on the street and start asking. What a concept.
February 28th, 2008 at 12:46 amThe other 33% are in the military (where they’re only allowed to access mainstream media web sites), or those who simply don’t have access to a computer.
