One of the reasons why our Founding Fathers included freedom of the press in the First Amendment of the Constitution is because they had an understanding of just how important and powerful the role of the press is in a free society — the press have the ability to protect the people by acting as a watchdog and exposing corruption, whether in the private or the public sector.
