In an interview with The Young Turks this week, Newsweek senior editor Michael Hirsh said that if Karl Rove is proven to be “legally” involved in the political persecution of former Alabama governor Don Siegelman, the magazine would “second guess” its hiring of him. Hirsh added that many journalists were “not happy” with Newsweek’s decision to bring on Rove. Watch it:
He should definately be fired…from everywhere!
February 27th, 2008 at 9:55 amHe shiould be in prison, forever. His crimes against the Constitution really deserve the death penalty.
February 27th, 2008 at 9:56 amYe reap what ye soweth.
Live like a snake, die like a snake.
February 27th, 2008 at 10:00 amWhy even answer? Yes, He should be fired / never should have been hired.
Why do we care anymore. Middle class , liberals lose every vote….we cant stop Bush, Corporations. This is just another example of the corruption were powerless to slow down, let alone end.
February 27th, 2008 at 10:01 amWhat does “legally” mean? Even if it was legal, or involved in a legal context. It sounds like Bush talking about Plamegate.
February 27th, 2008 at 10:03 amWill Newsweek fire Rove?
We can only hope so.
February 27th, 2008 at 10:03 amSo, exactly how much proof to they need? They have a whistle blower, a former Republican, who has testified under oath that he was involved.
Way to cover your butts Newsweek. BTW, they lost a customer over the hiring of Rove. I didn’t renew my subscription and I let them know why.
February 27th, 2008 at 10:06 amRove should be IN JAIL!!!!!
February 27th, 2008 at 10:08 amRove is NOT a journalist. Hence, he should have never been hired in the first place. Rove is an uneducated hack. Why he is considered a genius I’ll never know. It takes no great skill to appeal to the worst instincts in people and lie and cheat in the process. It is much harder to appeal to the better angels in folks and get them on the same page to work for a common and noble purpose where sacrifice for the greater good is in order.
Of course, I will give him this. Somehow, he duped a large number of Americans into believing that an Andover, Yale, Harvard LEGACY alumn, who “summered” in Kennebunkport, Me. was an average Joe when in reality it does not get more elitist than GWB if you put a crown on top of his head. Of course, I think it says more of the fools who fell for the charade than it does Karl Rove’s skills. Frankly, I’ll take those who earned their way up the ladder e.g., Hillary Clinton (she was no legacy entrant at Wellesley/Yale), Barak Obama (same for Columbia/Harvard) or Michelle Obama (same for Princeton/Harvard).
February 27th, 2008 at 10:13 amRove in Newsweek.
Krisco in NYT.
Rupert in WSJ.
Yeah, that damn liberal media; it’s all their fault.
February 27th, 2008 at 10:13 amFire T-blossom ??
There’s no way that’s going to happen, not if they want to keep their head attached to their shoulders and their family members above ground.
February 27th, 2008 at 10:20 amAs evidenced by the ‘accidents’ that just happened to surround the lady that testified T-blossom pressured her for the dirt.
would that include rove’s dance card girl — david gregory?
somehow i doubt that line that journalists were unhappy with the newsweek decision to hire rove.
February 27th, 2008 at 10:24 amThe question should be: Will Newsweek (and every other media entity) fire Rove for ANY of the immoral, and possibly illegal, things he’s done – going back to outing a covert CIA operative?

February 27th, 2008 at 10:44 amIn an interview with The Young Turks this week, Newsweek senior editor Michael Hirsh said that if Karl Rove is proven to be “legally†involved in the political persecution of former Alabama governor Don Siegelman, the magazine would “second guess†its hiring of him.
February 27th, 2008 at 10:45 amHow about 1st guessing why you would ever hire an unqualified propoganda pushing skid mark to begin with , NewsWeaK ?
hell, if traitor bush didnt fire him for outing a covert cia agent, you think newsweek is gonna do anything?
laughable….
impeach, convict, imprison, execute.
February 27th, 2008 at 10:46 amHirsh’s comments are evasive (politically correct?).
February 27th, 2008 at 10:55 amI can only hope that Newsweek recognizes their error in hiring Rove and cancels his contract. In fact, any respectable publication should put a red line through Rove’s name. If they have any doubt about doing so, they will be vindicated when the lying criminal finally goes to prison.
So why don’t you folks ask FAUX news as well? I mean after all he gets a paycheck from them and can go and profess his innocence at the same time.
I haven’t read Newsweek or Time for quite some time. I felt they lost my interest when they got away from somewhat middle class values and started giving us wall to wall drug ads. if I have to sit in a waiting room I look to Childrens Highlites for better writing.
But there is this new thing called the “internet” developed by that guy umm umm you know the guy who should have been President back in 2000.
This gets me back to Rove and whether he should be working for anybody or sitting in the 5th tier of of a Federal Prison.
Perhaps if the Supreme Court had not decided that Bush-boys rights were infringed by Mr. Gore beating his ass in the election, we would not have this and a whole host of problems that have happened.
Perhaps Re-education camps for maybe the top 1000 of these non belivers in constitutional government.
I can’t think of anything else can you?
February 27th, 2008 at 10:56 amWell said -#8 – Nomorebush.
February 27th, 2008 at 10:57 amMy guess would be no.
When has a Republican EVER gotten fired for anything??
February 27th, 2008 at 11:02 amThe good people at Newsweek have neither the balls or the smarts to fire Rove. Ain’t gonna happen.
But just supposing they did, it wouldn’t matter at all to Rove. The Weekly Standard would offer him a nice juicy gig right on the spot, and there Rove wouldn’t even have to maintain the pretense of journalistic integrity. To a Turd Blossom, any warm pile of crap is as good as any other.
February 27th, 2008 at 11:11 amI buy Newsweek a few times a year. No wait, not anymore I don’t. Rove isn’t just a former political guru, he’s an unindicted co-consirator. A man who has tried to undermine democracy, the rule of law and common decency. A man who actively promotes hatred of his fellow Americans.
Yeah, I bet the reporters are real proud to have their names associated with Rove’s.
February 27th, 2008 at 11:31 amHave you seen this guy on TV . The only televised job he could get was on Fox , thats because as a TV pundit he just isnt very good.
February 27th, 2008 at 11:51 amIts hard to spew those lies in person. He ’s not crediable.
And mostly just trips over his own verision of reality.
Karl Rove is a pig!!!!!!!
I just stopped my subscription to Newsweek as well.
February 27th, 2008 at 12:32 pmThey don’t need more righties when they have George Will.
They should fire him anyway… he is tainted with the stink of the sleazy underhandedness of what the Republican party has become. Yes, politics have always been messy, but Rove and his ilk have taken the politicization of all facets of government to such lows that it will be years undoing the damage that has been done. Using the Justice Dept. to target Democrats in order to win elections is unconscionable. Bring back the rule of law – it is what our nation was founded on – it is what has set us apart all of these years.
February 27th, 2008 at 12:50 pmHe must be set on fire, better than fired.
February 27th, 2008 at 1:51 pmI had a Newsweek subscription for 15 years until they hired Rove. Now, I wouldn’t wipe my a.. with that rag.
February 27th, 2008 at 3:10 pmHe must be set on fire, better than fired.
Comment by Evil Spaniard
hmm, waterboarding is good for an inquistion, and burned at the stake is cool for Rove. It’s all so Catholic!
February 27th, 2008 at 3:13 pmHere’s an interesting FACT: Newsweek.com’s search engine reveals no reference to “Siegelman” since 2001, and no reference to his bizarre conviction, ongoing imprisonment, and denial (to date) of an appeal.
Does this mean that Newsweek has made an editorial decision not to cover this story?
If they do, they’ll have a problem: their new columnist is a big player in the story. Whether it’s “legally” proven, Jill Simpson, a credible witness with phone records and other evidence to back her claims, has testified under oath to put Rove at the center of a multiple-felony conspiracy. A house committee is holding hearings. Rove is defying a subpoena and refusing to testify.
The fact is, that’s news, any way you look at it.
Whether Newsweek is going to fire a “journalist” linked to multiple criminal acts is one question. Whether their decision extends to refuse to cover the investigation of those crimes, and their “journalist’s” refusal to cooperate with the investigation, is another.
Check out good background at the is five-part series on Jill Simpson in the local Alabama media at

February 27th, 2008 at 3:16 pmAny opinions about Newsweek’s hiring of Karl Rove as a columnist, or their refusal to date to report on the Siegelman conspiracy in Alabama?
Perhaps you’d like to share them with the staff at that publication?
remember that respectful, non-vulgar letters have more impact.

February 27th, 2008 at 4:22 pmWhy would they fire him? Regardless of his culpability or proven culpability in the administration employment of the Justice Department to “Get” thorn-in the side Democratic Governor Siegelman, he will still be lauded and read by the Bushevik lemmings he was hired to attract.
Why would Newsweek stop pandering to the Busheviks for circulation. The Busheviks and Newsweek haven’t cared if he was a crook for years, so why would Newsweek jeopardize the Bushevik circulation they’ve gained. They are just practicing the over-riding policy of the Bush administration, lie, lie again and then lie some more. It’s O.K . . . we’re Republicans, just ask Gonzales.
