During his press conference today, a reporter asked President Bush what his “advice” would be to the “average American” who is “facing the prospect of $4 a gallon gasoline.” Bush replied, “That’s interesting, I hadn’t heard that.” Yet a few minutes later, Bush wouldn’t answer a question regarding donations for his presidential library because, he claimed, “I, frankly, have been focused elsewhere, like on gasoline prices.” Watch it:
Transcript:
QUESTION: What’s your advice to the average American who is hurting now — facing the prospect of $4 a gallon gasoline, a lot of people facing –
BUSH: Wait a minute. What did you just say? You’re predicting $4 a gallon gas?
QUESTION: A number of analysts are predicting $4 a gallon gasoline this spring when they reformulate.
BUSH: That’s interesting. I hadn’t heard that.
QUESTION: Yes, sir. [...]
QUESTION: Any restrictions on who can give? Will you take foreign money for this?
BUSH: Yes, probably take some foreign money, but don’t know yet. We just haven’t — we just announced the deal. And I, frankly, have been focused elsewhere, like on gasoline prices and, you know, my trip to Africa, and haven’t seen the fund-raising strategy yet.
And so, the answer to your question is really I can’t answer your questions well.
yeah, focused on how he can help his oil buddies get it up to $5.00 a gallon…. it used to cost me $15.00 to fill up my 95 saturn…. now it costs over $40.00.
impeach this assclown already.

probably.
February 28th, 2008 at 11:59 am1999 gasoline around $1.00/gallon
After 8 years of Bush and his oil connections $4.00/gallon.
Let’s see he’s let the dollar drop to new lows so the oil producing countries raise the price to keep up, or to advance, since the price of oil uses the dollar as the standard.
Of course all of those Texas wells that were all closed because the price was too low are now pumping at capacity.
Think there’s a connection?
February 28th, 2008 at 11:59 ambush is trying to say that the media speculating gas prices will be $4 is not accurate. he is being a dick about it though and he makes himself look like a moron because of his poor communication skillz…
February 28th, 2008 at 12:00 pmYeah, gg thats good logic… With those massive tax cuts for the oil industry that Bush put in place, gas prices really went down.
Oh wait…

February 28th, 2008 at 12:24 pmIt’s kind of comforting to see that most of you feel like I do (except of course for the resident idiot troll goo_goo). I really don’t like feeling so much hate for someone – it only winds up hurting me because the jackass “decider” is too stupid and uncaring for me (or any of us) to waste so much energy on. I wish it were 01-20-2009 – unless Mcbushcain should win. The thought of that happening is just too depressing to even think about.
February 28th, 2008 at 12:25 pm“And so, the answer to your question is really I can’t answer your questions well.”
…probably as close as were ever going to get to a truthful statement from this idiot.
February 28th, 2008 at 12:27 pmIf Congressional Democrats get their wish with the massive tax increase on the oil industry, that tax increase will be passed on to the consumer, and we will likely see higher gas prices as a result. Democrats want high gas prices so that they can use it for political gain, but will scream “fix†when the prices start to come down in August – November.
The moronic troll is right. If we either tax the oil industry or take away their tax breaks, they will just increase the price of gasoline to punish us for being so audacious as to think they should pay their fair share of taxes. They have to make sure that their obscene billions of dollars of profit per month stays the same. The only way they can do that is to pass on any taxes or rescinding of tax breaks to the consumers.

February 28th, 2008 at 12:31 pmTransportation economists tell us that the decision to take mass transport is a function of how we value our time, with an additional variable of how much we value the freedom to be able to drive our own car while at work.
February 28th, 2008 at 12:34 pmIt would take me 1.5 each way to get to work via mass transit. If I carpool it takes me 35 minutes, but I’m still in a car, chewing up gas.
If I could take a 45 minute bus ride, I’d do it in a heart beat.
So the question is, why don’t I live closer to work? Price of housing near work is 1/3 higher than where I live, can’t afford it.
If we reduce the demand, prices will go down, somewhat, and slowly.
But the kicker is the investment in mass transit that would need to be ramped up… and the time and political will to do that.
(1.5 hours)…
February 28th, 2008 at 12:34 pmI suppose Fox news failed to cover the gas price stories so the psychopath in chief had no way to know of these predictions.

The lack of political will is the kicker. So many places have no interest in even giving it a shot. I live just north of Atlanta, and I find it stunning how bad the mass transit system is here. I suppose what makes it worse is that before I lived in Boston, and their system is top notch.

February 28th, 2008 at 1:15 pmOf course good_golly wants this to happen. The neocons are already lieing in the woods waiting to scream that it’s the Dems’ fault. If the Dems don’t remove the oil industries tax cuts, then good_golly’s masters, the men whose boots good_golly licks, will be happy because they managed to ‘beat the Dems’, whatever that means. If the Dems do manage to remove the insane tax breaks the oil companies are getting in today’s economic climate, then any downside of that decision, no matter how slight, will be crowed out loudly by the Neocons.
Win-Win scenario, good_golly thinks.
What good_golly doesn’t get, however, is that the Oil companies have no friends in the rank and file of American consumers…

February 28th, 2008 at 2:20 pmI thank TP once again for wanting lower priced Oil. I can only hope that you will join with many others by asking we open up more Oil drilling in America to help reduce the price. You can’t be for lower gas prices and not for more Oil production.
February 28th, 2008 at 2:22 pmNow we know Cheney is President no one is that stupid. Why in the world would Bush care about what the cost of gas is anyway, as he doesn’t care what problems the American people are facing.
I look forward to seeing McCain become our next President. Hillary and Obama were wrong big time when they said this election was about a woman or a Black man. First we know American Woman don’t support woman in anything. Next yes Obama is a Rock Star but when the KKK joins forces that Star will fade. Now the History will be made by John McCain as he will be the first President of the United States who isn’t a Natural Born Citizen. Yes this leads the way for others who weren’t born in the US to become President. Putin might come here and get his US citizenship as he can’t be President of Russia again but he can become President of the United States. Now Gov. Arnie in California just might be our President one day if you can understand what he says since he doesn’t speak English well. Oh well Bush doesn’t know English even with the College Degree he was given as a favor to his Father.

February 28th, 2008 at 3:21 pmI’m sorry, but sometimes this is way too easy.
February 28th, 2008 at 3:24 pmPresident Bush is an idiot!!
RrOoGgEeRr alot of the rise in oil prices is because of the devaluating dollar. The U.S. must import about 66 million gallons of refined gasoline because our refineries can’t make enough.
We need more refineries.
February 28th, 2008 at 3:25 pmRoger_Roger @ 74:
Bullshit!
The current high prices are not due to our lack of capacity – our current reserves and our production is high. No, problems are due to artificial “speculation” in the market and not basic supply/demand issues. Our ability to produce matches or exceeds that of the Saudis and we do have a strategic reserve for a reason. No my friend, the issue here is and has been for 8 years “Windfall Profits”. You can’t whine about losing money and needing tax breaks when you are raking in the money hand over fist. Each quarter, Exxon, Shell, etc post “record profits”…..this is not due to gas taxes or the need to make more refineries.
Another issue is that the oil companies are too cheap to upgrade their refineries and maintain their pipelines.
Take your talking points elsewhere!

February 28th, 2008 at 3:34 pmHa ha! the bubble boy needs a teleprompter chyron running across his podium so he can see what he said thirty seconds ago.
If he was so focused on gas prices, he lied when he denied hearing about the predictions of $4/gal.
I just love his pressers; despite my unsettled stomach when he is on TV — there are so many opportunities to laugh at him; just think of what the late night hosts will do with the fresh ammunition.
If we aren’t able to get the satisfaction of impeachment, criminal charges, indictment, trials and imprisonment for him – it’s not so much to ask that he be given opportunities to make an a$$ of himself, and see him leave office to the catcalls, sneers, jeers of a public happy to be rid of him. He will be the butt of jokes for years, as the undeniably worst president in history.
Unfortunately, the hell he has brought to tens of thousands of families of soldiers is no laughing matter- but one for which he surely deserves prosecution.
February 28th, 2008 at 3:44 pmI missed some of the presser today – did he accuse the Democrats of staying the course in Iraq because they haven’t changed their minds about getting out?

You can’t be for lower gas prices and not for more Oil production.
Comment by Roger_Roger — February 28, 2008 @ 2:22 pm
actually, you can be, if you take the oil executives out back and execute them for war profiteering. gas prices would become reasonable very quickly.
February 28th, 2008 at 4:42 pm“1999, $1 a gallon”…”the future of $4 a gallon”…
I hate to burst your bubble of anger, but you ought to be reminded that that US prices weren’t realistic in 1999 and they aren’t now. As in: way too low.
I live in Amsterdam and if I would have a car, the average price I’d be paying for a gallon of unleaded petrol would be $8,55.
It’s a bit unfair, I know, since it has taken Europe decades of heavy taxation to change society’s mechanics (attitude) towards more transport (public) and fuel efficiency, AND our dense cities were not created solely around the automobile, but hey, just to give notice.
February 28th, 2008 at 6:15 pm“I can’t answer your questions well”
Bush has finally come to realize this? It only took him 7 years?
The cluelessness on the gas price issue was priceless. It reminded me of his dad when he first confronted a price scanner in a supermarket. Cluelessness must run in the family, especially while they are occupying the Whitehouse.
February 28th, 2008 at 6:48 pmwe went to war in iraq and afganistan over oil and we are declaring the rights to something like 65% of iraqs oil wells yet prices are through the roof. the permanent military bases we are building in iraq are to safeguard our oil interests in the region and are strategically placed nearby them. this administration are a bunch of criminals plain and simple. bush and cheney have made hundreds of millions since taking office but thats not enough. they have to ruin our economy. 3/4 of the aid money going to afganistan and iraq have gone missing. I don’t need any experts to tell me we are headed for $4 per gallon gas.
We knew we needed to get off of oil in the “70’s.
We have other ways to power vehicles and could be pumping up our economy with those technologies.
We could be leading the world in renewable energy sources right now if we were trying, just like we have led in every other technology in our history.
Oil companies have used their money and power to keep us on oil and our past presidents have played along.
We don’t have to give up personal vehicles, we have to learn how to properly power them sustainably, just like we learned how to travel in space.
Bill Clinton’s stupidity helped put W in the White House.
W is playing everything for his buddies at the country club, not the American people.
This video makes the show Lil’ Bush seem real…
The Bush administration has all government officials scared for their jobs and lives… ie… Valerie Plame and Federal Prosecutors, and National Parks Employees, just to name a few, “If you don’t agree with W then we will hurt you.”
