AP reports:
The House ethics committee said Thursday it was beginning an investigation into the conduct of Rep. Rick Renzi, R-Ariz., who was indicted a week ago on conspiracy, extortion and other charges.
The panel said in a statement it had created a four-member subcommittee to determine whether Renzi violated any laws, rules or standards of conduct with respect to any of the matters for which he was indicted. [...]
The ethics committee can issue a report that rebukes a member for violating laws or standards of conduct or can recommend that the full House consider expulsion.
Um, shouldn’t that say, “came less than a week….?
February 28th, 2008 at 5:02 pmMay I respectfully recommend expulsion, then shoot him from a cannon, all the way back to Arizona.
February 28th, 2008 at 5:10 pmCue the witch hunt trolls in…3…2…1…
February 28th, 2008 at 5:11 pmUh, he is a repukian so finding wrong doings should be pretty easy to find, although they can be really good at covering up their crimes sometimes.
February 28th, 2008 at 5:12 pmAnd William Jefferson in Louisiana is still a congressman? I hope the case against Renzi happens faster than Jeffersons, otherwise this means nothing except he has an (R) after his name.
So, why haven’t the Republicans started an ethics investigation into Jefferson’s actions? I’m sure that the Democrats wouldn’t mind. At least they asked Jefferson to step down from his committee assignments. I haven’t seen the Republicans ask anything of Renzi.
February 28th, 2008 at 5:18 pmIt’s good to know picking on ballplayers isn’t the only thing the have the guts to do. Maybe they might screw up and get a legitimate impeachment process going.
February 28th, 2008 at 5:19 pmHmmm. This ethics investigation needs to explore Renzi’s relationship with McWhore.
February 28th, 2008 at 5:23 pmGod, Ms_Joanne, you are absolutely prescient!
February 28th, 2008 at 5:23 pm“…whether Renzi violated any laws, rules or standards of conduct with respect to any of the matters for which he was indicted.”
He did.
February 28th, 2008 at 5:27 pmI have often wondered why the Jefferson indictment has stalled the way it has and why the ethics investigation was never completed (it was referred to the ethics committee last year).
Then I read this in Wikipedia:
I wonder if what Jefferson is saying is true and they are not pursuing the investigation to avoid embarrassment to the FBI?
February 28th, 2008 at 5:28 pm6. Why don’t you try reading the news bobobaggins. Renzi was asked to step down, and did in fact step down from his committee assignments.

Perhaps this moronic troll would like to link to something that proves his point. This is what I found:

February 28th, 2008 at 5:31 pmHey,S&M let’s ask Don Seigelman how it feels to be rail-roaded just because he had a (D) behind his name.
February 28th, 2008 at 5:33 pmSouthern Man, Jefferson should be attacked with the same conviction as Renzi and others that stain our govt.

I agree completely. But they are not pursuing Jefferson for some odd reason. It makes no sense unless there is the possibility that Jefferson is really innocent and they know if they pursue his indictment, they (meaning the Bush Justice Department) will once again be proven to be frauds.
February 28th, 2008 at 5:38 pmbilbo brings an interesting twist to the Jefferson story. I want resolution and bring the truth to light. It makes no difference what side of the aisle they’re from.
I didn’t know about the FBI link and I’m going to search for more on this.
Good Golly, does Renzi believe he’s innocent? If so, let him fight. But the rest of congress should not just side with their party. They should search for the truth.
February 28th, 2008 at 5:40 pmEnough for you bobobaggins?

February 28th, 2008 at 5:40 pmMs_Joanne beat me to the punch with what I was going to say. :-)
February 28th, 2008 at 5:41 pm“Agreed 100%. And yes, Renzi has stated that he is not guilty, as has William Jefferson. They should both have their days in court.”
Then they can both join the predomently corrupt republicans in jail.

Alas, no such skills are needed when you are speaking of the most predictable of the predictables…they are just so darned, well, predictable!! If it’s not Clinton did it! Clinton did it, too!, The dems have lower ratings than this god forsaken president, Dems can’t get anything done, etc., etc., etc., ad naseum, it might be prescient.
But please continue thinking me as such. I’ll take any compliments I can get. ;-)
February 28th, 2008 at 6:00 pmMs_Joanne,
Those are all examples of “tu quoque” as I sure you know.

Having an (R) after his name is crime enough. After all, you rightards think that anybody named Hussein is a Muslim extremist. Hypocrites.
