One year later, EPA still hasn’t regulated CO2.»

Last April, the Supreme Court ruled that the EPA had acted unlawfully in “its refusal to decide whether greenhouse gases cause or contribute to climate change,” and now must regulate carbon dioxide. Yet nearly a year later, the EPA has failed to act, as agency official Robert Meyers reported in a letter to environmental groups yesterday:

As a result, at this time, the agency does not have a specific timeline for responding to the remand. However, let me assure you that developing an overall strategy for addressing the serious challenge of global climate change is a priority for the agency, and we are taking very seriously our responsibility to develop an effective, comprehensive strategy.

Sierra Club attorney David Bookbinder said, “Unless EPA owns up to its obligations immediately, we will be forced to take the administration back to court.”

This is an absolutely brilliant response! It should be put in the text books of political science majors!

It reminds me of that old statement that began:
In promulgating esoteric cogitations, beware of platitudinous ponderosity. Let your statements and dissertations possess a clear lucid conciseness… etc.

    Could it be…

I have a question for you, Muckdog. On any given day we have millions of cars and trucks driving or sitting in traffic all over the world. Everyday planes carrying millions of people and tons of cargo fly every day. Factories and Plants generate millions of tons of emissions every day. All of these machines spewing out millions of tons of benzene, toluene, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and methane 24-7-365. All known toxins, greenhouse gases and/or carcinogenic. So I ask you, where do you think all of that shit goes once it escapes the exhaust pipes, engines or smokestacks? Does it just magically disappear? It increases every day with more and more trucks and cars. More planes. More shit in the air. Tell us, where does it go, Mr. Know-it-all?

  49. Ms_Joanne Says:

Xisthrus, it’s not demise. It’s justice. There’s a big difference.

I’m sorry but no one should be allowed to get away with what this administration has gotten away with. And I think that if the US is (or was) a moral compass to the world (which, of course, we no longer are), we should be held to AT LEAST the standards as to what that moral compass once meant.

It’s sad for us that no justice is served for Americans. The precedent has been set allowing any future elected official to run rampant over our society. That is more dangerous to our way of life than anything. But we aren’t a country in ruination - right now at least. Who knows what future presidents will do. But America invaded a sovereign nation - and hurt millions. THAT should be addressed by the world court.

  51. Mr. Evil Says:

Nuclear power is unsafe simply because of the massive amount of damage an accident (Chernobyl), instant death, altered DNA, permanently unusable land masses. What do we do with the waste that no one wants “in their backyard?” We’re very smart when we want to be. We can use the endless wind and the 5 billion years of solar power we have left (before it burns itself out and goes nova). All new homes should have solar panels and a small wind turbine of some sort. We can revamp our sewer systems to capture more water and runoff so we can save more water from our lakes and rivers instead of drying them up. We’ve already proven we can make electric cars that will perform well in the cities. We can do better. Dirty fuels with dirty and dangerous waste is not the answer.

  52. Mr. Evil Says:

oops: left out “can cause” after accident. sorry.

Nuclear is the answer that most developed countries are going to. Yet, dolts like you prevent it here. If you want the US out of the Middle East, support nuclear power.

That allows you to have electrical power during, here it comes… Night Time!!! If you want to see a perfect example of how photo-voltaic cells work in their simplest form, which I’m sure even you can understand, go and get that little calculator that cost about $3 and uses NO batteries but, will run on ANY light source. Do you see where I’m going with this? You don’t need direct sunlight for them to work!!! Did you know that even on a cloudy day you can get a suntan?!!! No direct sunlight there either. 88. Bush Cover Ups Says:

Despite Antiwar Rhetoric, Clinton-Obama Plans Would Keep US Mercenaries, Troops in Iraq for Years to Come

Obama also has no plans to sign on to legislation that seeks to ban the use of these forces in US war zones by January 2009. Despite their antiwar rhetoric, both Obama and Senator Hillary Clinton have adopted the congressional Democratic position that would leave open the option of keeping tens of thousands of US troops in Iraq for many years.

I discovered is that both of them intend to keep the Green Zone intact. Both of them intend to keep the current US embassy project, which is slated to be the largest embassy in the history of the world. I mean, I think it’s 500 CIA operatives alone, a thousand personnel. And they’re also going to keep open the Baghdad airport indefinitely. And what that means is that even though the rhetoric of withdrawal is everywhere in the Democratic campaign, we’re talking about a pretty substantial level of US forces and personnel remaining in Iraq indefinitely.

In the case of Barack Obama, I wanted to focus in on what his position is on private military contractors, particularly armed ones like those that work for Blackwater. And the reason I focus on Obama instead of Hillary on this is because Barack Obama has actually been at the forefront of addressing the mercenary issue in the Congress. In February of 2007—this was way before the Nisour Square massacre, where Blackwater forces killed seventeen Iraqis and wounded twenty others—in February of 2007, Barack Obama sponsored legislation in the Senate that sought to expand US law so that—

I just love it when right-whiners complain about climate change, and attempt to spin the truth to show nothing is happening at all.

Right-whiners refuse to believe that encouraging alternative energy will open new jobs to support the technology.

Right-whiners love being enslaved to the middle east and (mostly) islamic nations for the oil which we currently depend upon.

Right-whiners will only face the reality of climate change when they have no other choice. I hope and pray they wake up to the truth sooner rather than later.

I’m always amused by right-whiners such as Bert who makes wild assertions with no proof at all whatsoever to back up his claims. If he had proof, he’d offer it. Since he offers nothing, that’s exactly what he’s got: nothing.

  90. VerbalKint Says:

Okay, let’s just fess up and be done with it: muckdog, GG, and Bert Convy know more about climate than all the climate scientists in the world put together, even though none of them is a scientist of any kind.

What you know about science would fit on the point of a pin. wny you continue to embarrass yourself is a mystery, unless you just can’t help following in the lead of your embarrassingly stupid presidunce.

  95. Democrat Soldier Says:

    Hey, VerbalKint!

It looks like Bert is selectively reading information from the U.S. National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) to fit his pre-concieved notion that Global Warming is a “myth”.

    http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/ oa/ climate/ research/ 2007/ aug/ national.html

    Inconvenient (for Bert) highlights:

For the contiguous United States, the average temperature for August was 75.4°F (24.1°C), which was 2.7°F (1.5°C) above the 20th century mean and the second warmest August on record, based on preliminary data.

A severe heat wave persisted throughout much of the month across southern and central parts of the nation. More than 30 all-time high temperature records were tied or broken and more than 2000 new daily high temperature records were established.

Raleigh-Durham, NC equaled its all-time high of 105°F (40.6°C) on August 21, and Columbia, SC had 14 days in August with temperatures over 100°F (37.8°C), which broke the record of 12 set in 1900.

The warmest August in the 113-year record occurred in eight eastern states (West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, the Carolinas, Georgia, Alabama, and Florida) along with Utah. For the Southeast, the length, severity and area of the heat wave led to comparisons with events in 1983 and 1954. The nation’s August REDTI was the highest August value in 113 years and was 16 percent above the mean energy consumption for the month. Alaska was 3.28°F (1.82°C) warmer than the 1971—2000 mean in August.

Many areas in Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Georgia, and South Carolina had more than ten days of triple digit temperatures in August. It was, by far, the hottest month on record in Tennessee, and the average high temperature for the month was a remarkable 82.9°F (28.3°C), more than 6.6°F (3.7°C) above the monthly average and more than 2.8°F (1.6°C) above the previous record set in 1936. More information about the exceptional heat in August can be found at the special August heat wave page.

Drought severity worsened during the month of August in the Central and Southeast regions and in parts of Montana, Idaho, and northern Wisconsin and Minnesota, the northern plains, the Midwest, and the mid-Atlantic. The most severe drought in the nation was concentrated in a large portion of Alabama, Mississippi, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, the western Carolinas, and in small portions of Arkansas, Virginia, and Ohio. Extreme drought conditions also persisted or intensified in the southwestern states of Arizona, California and Nevada, as well as in Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. For more information on drought during August, please visit the U.S. Drought Watch page.

In the tropical Pacific Ocean, La Niña conditions were developing. By the end of August, sea-surface temperature (SST) anomalies remained positive in the western equatorial Pacific and became more negative in the eastern equatorial Pacific. Most dynamical models are forecasting the strengthening of the La Niña conditions in the next couple of months, while some statistical models are forecasting the return of El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO)-neutral conditions. A developing La Niña may result in wetter than normal conditions in the Pacific Northwest and drier than normal conditions in the southwestern U.S. in the fall. For additional information on ENSO conditions, please visit the NCDC ENSO Monitoring page and the latest NOAA ENSO Advisory.

I guess ‘ol Bert believes that having one of the most extreme winters equals “Global Warming is a myth”. Record breaking weather extremes are a sign that the global climate is changing for the worse, not the better.

Rising global temperatures does not mean that winter is less harsh, it means that extremes become even more extreme. Higher highs, lower lows worldwide.

I suggest that Bert should do some unbiased research on his own, and not just reguritate the talking points that oh-so conveniently support his prejudices.

Poor Bert seems to hate our veterans simply because they refuse to swig the kool-aide that he;s been blindly drinking.

I used to be a Republican, until I opened my eyes to how much they have been screwing the US and lying about theiir ulterior motives.

I’m sure that, one day, you’ll exercise your brain and wake up to the failure that is the right-whiners.

Thatks for proving that Pres. Bush is fiscally irresponsible!

It’s nice to know that you realize that Pres. bush is responsible for the largest national debt in the world, and the fastest rise in the national debt EVER!

it’s going to take a Democratic President to address the continuing failures of the Republic President and his failed Republic Congress!

#123 - “George Bush Has Done More to Combat Global Warming than Al Gore” Comment by BERT CONVY — February 29, 2008 @ 11:48 am

“What Bush did not explain – and what the press did not deign to find out – was that Bush’s claim about the Internet’s energy use came from a study commissioned by a coal-industry group that endorses the view that more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is good – not bad – for the earth.

Also not mentioned by Bush was that the coal industry’s Internet study concluded that the United States must undertake a $1 trillion investment in new power plants to meet energy demands supposedly created by the Internet and other new technologies.

Though Bush cited the 8 percent figure as fact, the estimate is vigorously challenged by many energy experts as a wild exaggeration of the Internet’s energy requirements and as a gross distortion of the underlying reality that the high-tech New Economy has achieved significant net savings in energy use.”

    http://www.consortiumnews.com/2000/100900a.html

‘Will Bush Stop Congress from Creating a New Energy Future?

After six years of rhetorical puffery from President Bush about making the United States “less dependent on foreign oil,” the new leadership of the 110th Congress took the initiative last weekend and passed a pair of “far-reaching,” forward-looking energy bills that “will increase the use of renewable energy, reduce America’s dependence on foreign sources of energy, and decrease global warming pollution.” In a rare Saturday session, the House approved the New Direction for Energy Independence, National Security, and Consumer Protection Act, putting the nation on a path toward greater energy independence and security. Congress also passed a companion tax package totaling nearly $16 billion to help transition to a new energy economy. Bush has threatened to veto the bills. In 1986, the United States imported 27 percent of its oil; today, it imports 60 percent. Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) heralded the bipartisan legislation as “just the ambitious first phase in what will be a series of revolutionary actions for energy independence.” Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) said the bill’s passage moves America away not only from our “over-dependence on fossil fuels, but from our dependence on fossilized ideas.”

    http://www.alternet.org/environment/59387/

Pres. Bush doesn’t care anything about our environment. He’d rather sell out to oil & coal industries rather than invest in alternative sources of energy.

The truth will se you free, but first it’s going to tick you off!

Why does Bert refuse to support his country by serving in the military? Is he afraid of being patriotic?

Well, since Bert’s head is way up in the clouds, I’m sure that makes him think he’s qualified to be an “expert” on the climate. ;-)
