I think it’s safe to say that Islam Karimov counts as someone who has “suppressed human rights and human dignity” — and not only did Bush sit down and have his picture taken with Karimov, he formed an alliance with Karimov so that we could use an airbase in Uzbekistan for the War In Iraq. Bush is insecure and his response to things that scare him is to belittle them. He knows that if he tries to negotiate with someone with even a little bit of smarts, he’ll be leaving that negotiation in just his underwear.
