The State Department has stopped processing visa applications from Iraqi and Afghan translators who have risked their lives assisting U.S. military units because “the current legal quota of 500 visas for the program this year is about to be reached.” A bill sponsored by Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-MA) and signed by President Bush last month raised the quota for Iraqi translators to 5,000, but it has yet to be implemented.
This is sheer criminal incompetence.
February 29th, 2008 at 3:05 pmWelcome to the wonderful world of red tape. At least, Kennedy either discovered the problem (or had it brought to his attention) in time to do something about it. Now that Congress has done its thing, and Bush has done his, it’s time for the State Department to get on the stick and do whatever has to be done to get it working.
I certainly hope that this isn’t being shuffled off to a back burner because it has to do with scary brown people.
February 29th, 2008 at 3:13 pmOf course the State Department won’t process the visas. Republicans need to prove that government doesn’t work. If they did something responsibly it would shatter that myth.
February 29th, 2008 at 3:15 pmThe administration can’t do anything right. Department after department is being destroyed by their incompetence. The FDA, the USDA, FEMA, the passport office, customs, airport security, not to mention all the minor SNAFUs that are passing below media attention.

Shayne, it’s frightening how many government fu(kups can be adequately explained this way.
Are they really incompetent, or is it just part of their evil plan?
February 29th, 2008 at 3:31 pmNice. They risk their lives for us …and in return, they get …what?
Screwed? Killed? Tortured? Imprisoned?
Yeah. That’s a great way to win hearts and minds.
February 29th, 2008 at 3:31 pmAnother “heck of a job” moment in the incompetant crony-packed state department. Stay tuned for more heck of a job moments from the EPA, the FDA, the TSA…
February 29th, 2008 at 3:36 pmHey folks read up on what we did to the Laotians at the end of the Vietnam war.
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/17/world/asia/17laos.html?ref=asia
February 29th, 2008 at 3:42 pmOh yeah, we also encouraged the Shite population of southern Iraq to rise up against Saddam and then let him fly helicopters over their villages and destroy them after Gulf War I This seems to run in the family.
February 29th, 2008 at 3:44 pmFirst, they kicked out all the Gay translators, even though we had far too few.
Why should they even need a visa? I mean, freedom’s on the march, right? How can we invade more countries illegally w/o translators?

Seriously, these folks have saved lives while risking theirs & their family’s. I guess doing the right thing is so foreign to Bushlickers that it becomes impossible.

We’ll have to wait until the dems take over. It’s not that govenment is bad, it’s republicans can’t govern. bush and company have proved this once and for all.
February 29th, 2008 at 3:55 pmIf I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times……Republicans.Cannot.Govern. They have absolutely no clue wtf they are doing.
February 29th, 2008 at 4:05 pmOf course it is, and if evil Bushco had let these people in right away most of these MOONBATS would have been calling it an impeachable offense to add to the rest of their made up crimes.
Comment by Gin — February 29, 2008 @ 3:51 pm
No, actually we wouldn’t have. I do have to wonder how many Little Green Football wingers would’ve been worried about letting so many Muslims into the country.
February 29th, 2008 at 4:12 pm.
And it’s only Feb. 29
That leaves 300+ days to continue to refuse visas for people who have assisted Bush’s war of terrorism.
.
February 29th, 2008 at 4:59 pmI wonder what assurances and promises our Military made these Iraqi translators. These Iraqis put themselves and their families in Great danger to help us. When they need help, they get red tape.
Shame on the State Dept. Who’s going to help us, when word of this gets out. Condalezza Rice should be asked about this.
February 29th, 2008 at 5:12 pmWay to show support for people who have put their lives on the line to support the United States. Thanks so much for your help, now please go away and leave us alone.
February 29th, 2008 at 5:21 pmOf course it is, and if evil Bushco had let these people in right away most of these MOONBATS would have been calling it an impeachable offense to add to the rest of their made up crimes.

It’s not the “moonbats” who are afraid of these brown people, it is the Republiscums like yourself. We would have been amazed that Bush actually kept his promise and would have given him kudos for doing so.
I’m wondering why this moronic troll thinks that spying on the people in the United States without a warrant is a “made up crime”. I’m also wondering why it thinks that torturing prisoners is a “made up crime”. Both those crimes have a valid existence in written law and treaties. So how is that a “made up crime”?
February 29th, 2008 at 5:25 pmHey, gin – why don’t you and and your girlfriend goony get yourselves a room…?

no, everybody knows a republican-infested government can’t run anything but away. A real government would save Americans billions and also save thousands of lives. sort of the anti-right.
