Waxman: Baghdad embassy seeing ‘critical’ problems.

The U.S. embassy in Baghdad remains plagued by”major deficiencies in the infrastructure,” according to a letter to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice from the House Oversight Committee. The finding raises “questions” about the State Department’s December decision to certify that the embassy compound was “substantially complete.” Waxman plans to subpoena Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte if the department does not provide documents related to the embassy’s construction.

hey waxass, STFU! THE USA IS SEEING CRITICAL PROBLEMS FOR THE PAST 7 YEARS… what cha’ gonna do about it assclown?

  2. ForTruth says:

    Oooh boy another subpoena.

  3. Theresa says:

Ooooh, Goody. More claims of executive privilege, national security, etc.

  4. Wayne says:

Is there going to be another letter? With lots of exclamation points?

    Oh, yeah, that always works.

    Got Table, Congressman?
    Didn’t think so.

  5. rogernyc says:

Can’t this administration do anything right? I mean really… I think the above comments are out of line, Waxman is an honorable man.

  6. IgnoranceIsNotBliss says:

It’s not that Waxman isn’t an honorable man, it’s the fact that all he does is write letter after letter after letter and he is totally ignored and he does absolutely nothing to hold anyone accountable. That’s the problem.

  7. OptimisticMF says:

We can piss and moan about the ineffectiveness of the ‘Democrat’ party since the ‘06 elections, but Waxman is not the problem. He has been all over most of the substantive issues (and even some of the lame ones, as GG pointed out). Without the backing of the rest of the party, there isn’t much he can do.

Can we get him elected Speaker for the next session?

  8. Zimzone says:

    Hmmm,
Rep. Waxman is asking Condi to be prompt & honest? Good luck!

  9. rastaman says:

    hahahahahaha

that place will be a $740 million SMOKING HOLE after Iran gets its nukes.

the most expensive bullseye ever built by slave labor.

hey…..want a diplomat position in Baghdad?

  10. Buckie Boy says:

Well they keep saying that there are no permanent bases in Iraq, so I guess the embassy is designed to last a couple of years by the sound of the quality materials used.

Sounds more like alot of Bush/Cheney cronies got rich from this fiasco.

    Buck Fush

    .

Ever watch the movie Money Pit?

It’s been updated to the 21st Century and built in Iraq.

In fact, this whole Iraq incursion is one huge money pit…
To the tune of $3,000,000,000, give or take a few Billion.

    .

  12. Max-1 says:

    .

    Oops…

    Forgot a few 000’s
A Trillion has a lot of ‘em, NO?

    .

  13. DieNowForPeace says:

We can leave it to the Iraqi’s right now (it’s still in better shape than Saddam’s so-called “palace”), or we’ll eventually be leaving under a hail of bombs and gunfire.

It’s best to leave our Middle East meddling to a third party (SEE: Israel)

  14. Bluestocking says:

Somebody please tell me that Kellogg, Brown, and Root were not the ones who were awarded the contract to build the embassy! After all, they’re the ones who’ve been building those internment compounds right here at home. You know…the ones which have ostensibly been built as a precautionary measure in case of an exponential increase in illegal immigration or a large-scale natural disaster, but which some people believe have been built in preparation for a declaration of martial law to imprison American citizens who resist the suspension of civil liberties.

    Comment by OptimisticMF

You missed something in your statement. It should read “Without the backing of the rest of the party and without the constant obstruction by the Republicans…”

  16. bilbobaggins says:

What I would like to know is why none of the contractors who are working on the embassy, doing shoddy work, have been held accountable for their shoddy work. They have been paid and are still being paid for work that will have to be redone. But, they are all FOB’s so that’s ok. We can just keep paying them and paying them and paying them until they finally get it right.

  17. fletc3her says:

I’m sure they’re all cost plus contracts so we guarantee them that if they go over budget, not only do they not suffer any repercussions, but they actually make more profit! It’s a great gig if you can get it.

  18. Nevar says:

Are you sure you have time for this, Waxman?
Baseball season is just around the corner, sure wouldn’t want any delay with that, would we?

    sarc/off

  19. hmbnancy says:

Bring back Bunnatine Greenhouse- the whistleblower who lost her job with the Army Corp of Engineers for complaining about the no-bid contracts given to Halliburton in Iraq.

If anyone could sort out that quagmire it’s her.

  20. squidbilly says:

Substantially complete in construction industry speak means occupiable with minor items to complete. Life safety (fire alarm, sprinkler systems) items as described in the letter are not minor items.

    It probably isn’t even occupied.

Just more BS rhetoric from the Iraq boondoggle and its corroborators.

  21. williamf says:

Shit in and shit out. All kinds of problems, nobody to do nuttin’ about ‘em. Nobody will do anything about nuttin’ ’cause they’re a bunch of chickenshits. Where are the guns? Who gives a rat’s ass about the embassy. GAO says there are thousands of guns missing and nobody knows where they are. I guess they’re just somewhere in Iraq. Huh…where are the GD guns?!!

  22. Lefty Patriot says:

You mean Waxman isn’t too busy with Roger Clemens? Did his staffers get all the autographs they wanted?

    Comment by good_golly — February 29, 2008 @ 3:51 pm

Clemens couldn’t sign autographs, he was too busy getting blow jobs from Bush and friends.
