How to catch a monkey. Hollow out a gourd. Tie the gourd to a tree. Leave a hole in the gourd just barely large enough for the monkey to get his hand in. Put a nut in the gourd.

The monkey will reach in the gourd for the nut, but won’t be able to get his hand out of the gourd with it clenched around the nut. Monkey will be caught and killed hp presario r4000 battery,hp presario pp2100 battery before he lets go of the nut.

Rove’s Republicans are that greedy little monkey, the nut oil, and the gourd Iraq.

Riiiight…because it couldnt possibly be two different reasons because nothing ever happens for more than one reason right?
In other words, if someone gets shot and thrown out a window, it must have been the fall that killed him?…. someone needs to dig up anna nicole smith and tell her that her death couldnt possibly have been the results of multiple factors…
as far as Heir Rove:
Welcome to the 2009 republican meme: anything bad that happens is the result of the democrats running the show. I’m almost glad Kerry lost in 2004, because everything thats going wrong now because of years of bush idiocy would be getting blamed on kerry…

Comment by Chocolate Jesus — March 2, 2008 @ 11:33 pm

Sure there could be other reasons. In fact, there are other reasons. But the article gives no indication that the war is one of them, and they emphasize the dollar aspect. The point is that, if you take this article for what it's worth, you should not be given the impression that the Iraq war is having a substantial impact of oil prices. These prices would be high anyway.

U.S. Rep. David Davis (R-TN) in our local paper yesterday blamed the Democrats for the high gas prices, stating that House Leader Nancy Pelosi promised to fix the energy problem when the Dems won control in 2006. He said that increasing taxes on businesses (in this case, the oil industry) doesn't work, because he's "never seen a business that pays for a tax increase." His reasoning is that companies raise their prices to cover any increased taxes, thus passing along the tax payments to their customers.

Davis conveniently ignores the increases in oil and gas prices since Bush took office (6 years of which Congress saw the Republicans in the majority).

Comment by FearandSmear — March 2, 2008 @ 10:21 pm
Good comment. Same with Iraq. Take the disastrous invasion/occupation, amplify it into a terrorist conflagration if the disaster is addressed by a withdrawal and throw it in their opponents lap.

>It’s also interesting that TP’s own linked story actually suggests a >different reason for the oil price hike than the war; to the authors, the >dramatic price increase is a reflection of the falling dollar.

This is one irrelevant human. Mainstream media just pee all over themselves when fat boy comes around. He has done more damage by using the power of the presidential office and done a shredding gone job on the Constitution. Bush nursed him all the way. Let's see what this bottom feeder does on his own. We'll be watching.

"Well, we were not involved in the world before 9/11, and look what happened. Look at the cost to the American economy after a terrorist attack on the homeland. We lost a million jobs in 90 days after 9/11.... "

after each of those sentences i wanted to hear rove add."...on george w. bush's watch with me as his advisor..."

Klassic Karlâ„¢:

Take a massive Republican shortcoming = +$100/barrel oil

Amplify the problem massively with a fear trigger tied to not getting what they want.

Result: Real, original problem pales in comparison to the conjured image of the problem, thus mitigating the immediate, real problem and making the opponent now defend against a scenario which isn't real.

$100 oil is old news, what to do about $200 oil, THAT is the question we're facing now...

Karl is keeping busy creating reality again...

C’mon, now. Who ya gonna believe? A Nobel Laureat economist, or a political skank who had the ‘math’ in 06? Huh?

Bush says he thinks he got a 'C' in Econ 101.
Rove is a college dropout who probably didn't pass any economic or business courses.
I'd love to see that losers college transcripts.
His area of expertise is lying, dirty politics, gaming the system and breaking the law.

Only in Republican America can we put two "oil men" in charge and still see gas prices double since they have been there.

It's also interesting that TP's own linked story actually suggests a different reason for the oil price hike than the war; to the authors, the dramatic price increase is a reflection of the falling dollar.

First, I can report that Dr. Stiglitz reads Think Progress, as I recently saw him at an event holding a printed copy of one of the stories here.

Second, I think it's a matter of great debate just how much the war has impacted oil prices. I would contend that prices would be much higher with or without the war. Since correlation does not mean causation - it is a logical fallacy to suggest so. There really is no good way to determine just how much impact the war has had on oil; it has had some, but not enough to change the fundamental problems of supply and demand we are facing currently.

As I've pointed out before, there are liberal economists who agree with me.

Going there was supposed to make oil prices drop to $20/barrel. How has that worked out, Karl?
