Ahmadinejad Received In Baghdad By Honor Guard, Protested By Sunnis in Fallujah»

ajadArriving Sunday at the Baghdad airport, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad “descended the stairs of his presidential jet smiling and waving.” After being “greeted with hugs and kisses by top Iraqi officials,” Ahmamdinejad proceeded by motorcade to the home of Iraqi president Jalal Talibani, where the two men exchanged kisses on cheeks before “walking together down a red carpet to review an honour guard as a military band played the two national anthems.”

The pomp and ceremony surrounding Ahmadinejad’s two-day trip stood in stark contrast to the highly secretive visits of President Bush, which are never announced in advance, and have never lasted more than a few hours.

Ahmadinejad’s visit also laid bare the divisions which continue to stymie political progress in Iraq. While he was embraced by Shiites and Kurdish leaders, Sunni Vice President Tareq al-Hashemi did not meet with Ahmadinejad, and no Sunni politicians were present at the welcome ceremonies. Hundreds of Sunnis demonstrated against the Iranian president in Fallujah. Here’s what Sunni leaders had to say:

- Sunni cleric Abdul Kareem al-Samarai announced during a Friday sermonI have a message to the Arab leaders, where are you? Where are your ambassadors?” While several Arab states have missions in Iraq, none have sent permanent ambassadors.

- Sheikh Jabbar al-Fahdawi, one of the leaders of the Sunni tribal “Awakening” movement, condemned the visit, declaring Iran to be “the No. 1 enemy of Iraq.”

- Salman Abdullah Al-Hamad, another Sunni tribal leader, also expressed outrage. “How can we tolerate this? […] Today we live under the regime of the clerics. The Iranian revolution has been exported to Iraq.

Sunni tribal groups have been credited with helping to reduce violence, but they have expressed deepening dissatisfaction with what they see as the Baghdad government’s unwillingness to work with them. American officials have tried to present the Awakenings phenomenon as a revolt against al Qaeda, but many Sunni militiamen “say they joined partly to get support from the Americans so they can prepare to resist Iranian efforts to dominate Iraq.”

Bush and the neocons who pushed US into this illegal amoral war should move to Iran. The winner of the Iraq war is Iran. There is next to nothing we can do to help the Iraqi people. We have royally F-ed things up in Iraq for a long long time. Way to go, GOPigs. Couldn’t resist those no bid contracts and billions of US tax dollars. Even our Grandchildren are F-ed by this war. I hope to see Cheney pulled from his spider hole and held accountable for all the innocent blood and wasted lives money and energy.

It doesn’t take long to jam the latest “order” down some bodies throat.

And yeah, it would be secretive! Bush is a true coward who cringes at the reality that the real dislike and hatred of him would probably result in his death.

How much better it is to don a flight suit and codpiece radiating power and “sexuality” from a positioned aircraft carrier under a phony banner stating his success in Iraq. No danger there! Just “adoring” service people commanded how to act reverent!

I’ve always believed that the day Cheney and Bush walk the streets of Baghdad outside the Green Zone unprotected like Ahmadinejhad just did then they can claim..

Looks to me like Iran just rubbed King George’s nose in the dirt.

Now I get it. Bush/Cheney/Rummy destabalized Sunni-dominated Iraq and established a (friendly to Iran) Shiite government to draw in the (Shiite) Iranian government (which only morons like GooGoo would think are allied with a Sunni group like Al Qaeda — in Iraq or otherwise) to incite the Sunni minority in Iraq to rise up against Iran. Somehow this will bring peace and democracy to the middle east. Amazing what a brain damaged cokehead can do when his daddy’s rich friends decide to elevate him to figurehead status.

Good lord, but your ignorance surpasses even your fearless leader’s.

Al Qaeda, which is not even in Iraq, is a fervent Sunni organization that loathes and detests Shi’a. Not to mention the Iranian government offered help to the US in 2001 to fight the Taliban and Al Qaeda (the real AQ, which is not in Iraq). You really need to read something besides Drudge and newsmax — something that isn’t another wingnut blog.

Like I said, Al Qaeda is Sunni, and their main supporter is the Saudi Arabia Royal Family. Our supposed “friends”

And in the case of Iran, some intelligence officials and analysts are unconvinced that Al Qaeda operatives are being allowed to plot terrorist acts. 45. gummitch Says:

Yep, they’re buddies all right, goon.

    Chums.

And the goon has rushed to gobble up the pro-Republican propaganda. Again.

ERVAND ABRAHAMIAN: I think it’s partly some truth in it, partly fantasy. You know, I think the political impact of it is the fantasy part. I think where there is some truth is that Al-Qaeda people and other people across the border, because there is really no border. It’s a vast no-man’s land between Iran and Afghanistan. If Iran could, they would have built a fence there, but it’s just too wide a border. In fact, there are weakly armed clashes between Iranian authorities and smugglers. Iran executes something like 300 smugglers a year, drug smugglers coming across from Afghanistan. They have really no control over that border so, its possible Al-Qaeda people have crossed that border. But the fantasy part is that there is actually collusion between the Iranian regime and Al-Qaeda. This just doesn’t make sense. The Iran and the Taliban and Al-Qaeda were in a state of war. Iran accused Al-Qaeda of actually carrying out terrorist acts coming across the same border, blowing up mosques in Iran. Al-Qaeda and Taliban actually massacred a large number of pro Iranian people in Afghanistan, including Iranian diplomats. We forget that the afghan war was really a war by proxy. Iran was supporting the northern alliance against the Taliban and Al-Qaeda, and Iran was actually quite happy with the united states eventually invaded and got rid of the Taliban. So, to argue there is collusion between Iran and Al-Qaeda seems fantasy. I mean, its possible–anything is possible. It’s possible that people from outer space have come down to help Bin Laden, but it’s—unless one has really hard evidence, one can’t take that as a political fact. Here what I think they’re doing is taking some truth about people crossing the border and bringing it to a conclusion that there is really collusion between very unlikely forces.

Space people help bin Laden. Now that makes more sense.

  46. Above the Clouds Says:

golly you really should pay attention to what wayne and gummitch and just about everyone else is saying - iran has never supported aq - and this assassination of bush fear is obviously your own mind sparring with reality - after seeing his ’snatching defeat’ speech any sane person would believe that he is half f**ked already.

Obama is the only candidate that can properly deal with Iran. Have you seen this online poll? It’s asking us to vote for the candidate we would recommend undecided voters vote for tomorrow. If you’re an Obama supporter then vote here!

4000 dead soldiers, three trillion dollars blown away, Osama alive and partying laughing in Pakistan, and this is what pisswad repubs have to show at the end of it- a shiite radical government that embraces Iranian terrorists. Phucking losers. Convy, you’re just about the dumbest sack of shiite nazi traitor I’ve ever had to screw myself to read on this site. You wouldn’t know love of country if it reached down your throat, ripped your lungs out and threw them in your face. I’d love to see it though. Yippie-Ki-Yay, wingnut freak.

    >GG can’t be VV/MA, as a number of posters here allege.

don’t be so sure. both have displayed moments of incredibly idiocy. gg thinks shia clerics like al-sadr want the us to stay in iraq.. the mighty hermaphodite megan mocked murtha for his lack of military experience when a simple google would show how idiotic that line of attack would be. that vile ugly little troll has been called out so many times by myself and others, using so many pseudonyms, I wouldnt be surprised if it had changed its speech patterns substantially to avoid being called out for the horrid little scab she is..

So you’re obviously very bothered by the fact that we’re making millionaires out of Sunni chieftans with american blood on their hands, and your also deeply bothered that we tiptoe around the Shia cleric al-Sistani who advocates killing homosexuals. These people we deal with disturb you, right?

  94. Evil Spaniard Says:

You know what will happen in the future with these “allies” that are being bribed to not attack the USA?

Well, these suicide pacts tend to be made by treasonous people that changes strategies as soon as it fits to their plans. I’m speaking of both sides here, the only that will matter is who will be the first one performing the treasonous scheme, be it real or perceived by the other side. If the bribed ones feel that the USA has withdrawn their backing, even if they’re pursuing really odd objectives (not a very strange success, look at UBL, or the talibans), they’ll turn against the USA. If the USA feels that the bribed ones are no longer useful, be it for a change of political background, or an economical one, or anything else, and decides to stop the bribing, even if it means that the bribed ones will be swipped off the map, the bribed ones will turn against the USA, and not without reason.

It’s a lose-lose scenario, only for using dishonest methods and a failed policy from the beggining.
