Beck: Deniers conference is like ‘2nd coming of Jesus.’

On his radio show today, conservative talker Glenn Beck compared the Exxon-funded Heartland Institute’s global warming skeptics conference in New York City this week to “the second coming of Jesus.” Claiming that “the press just won’t cover” the conference, Beck declared that “tonight we’re covering it as if it’s the second coming of Jesus.” Listen to it:

Despite Beck’s claims that “the press won’t cover” the conference, Fox News trumpeted it this morning.

If “the press” means the news media, Fox doesn’t count.

  2. JMOHR says:

People like Beck are just dangerous to Democracy and the survival of mankind. We need to adopt the Repuglican/Conservative view of the world. Decisive, violent action must be taken against these people. They are far more dangerous than Saddam Hussein. They should be removed with great rapidity and no fan fare. Just pile their bodies in the gutter where they belong.

Yep denialists usually use cold days as proof global warming is bogus. But on warm days they suddenly get struck by reason and argue correctly that one warm day does not a trend make.

  27. Pernell says:

You will notice that the cult of conservatism gets in such a tizzy when the “media” does not report the out of touch with reality horseshit being fed them by their handlers.

So, if the media does not cover their reality-free EXXON paid for propaganda fest then theit cult leaders tell them they are being persecuted. They accept this because they are conditioned to eat any turd their handlres throw them. Moonies function like this.

If you will watch conservatives this happens all the time. They think if you don’t give equal time to their lies and blatant propaganda you are persecuting them. Moonies think like this.

Conservatism is a national security problem. It can only thrive if they have Moon’s WT and Rush to tell them what and how to think.

Cult members cannot see what they are doing, how they are controlled, neither can conservatives. They have come to believe treason is a good thing and shatting on the constitution is their duty.

They are really very frightend people. Trained like seals to fear those Boogymen, Commies, environmentalists, people who think the constitution should be followed, and people who expose their fraudulant movement – these things frighten conservatives that is why they grasp for any lie Rush tells them – it soothes their conditioned minds. Just like a cult.

  28. dasm says:

Beck is a dolt. Pure & simple. Well, maybe not pure. He grabs at anything he thinks might be controversial & runs with it, but really, he has proved time & again he has absolutely no smarts, no knowledge, no class. He belongs on the Spike Chgannel. (Sorry to insult Spike, but there you are.) He wants to be cute. He fails.

  29. pete says:

    Comment by Pernell — March 3, 2008 @ 7:26 pm

While the cult analogy is valid, I’m not sure one can call what they do “thinking”.

I’m no expert on religion (being a Secular Humanist) but I seem to remember that Armageddon, the battle between good and evil, with all the horrors that will bring, happens before the second coming of Christ. Whether it will be hot depends on whether BushCo uses napalm.

  37. zathrus says:

It’s just like how the press never seems to cover all those events when the “Flat Earthers” get together, or the “astronauts” assemble to reminisce over how they pulled a fast one back in 1969.

The fact that there are 2 opposing viewpoints about an issue does NOT make them of equal value. It’s like the very common case where the press assumes that because group A vehemently claims X, and group B vehemently denies X, that the “truth” must somehow be in the middle. The fact is that sometimes folks are just plain WRONG. Giving “equal time to nutjobs” is a prime example of FARK (www.fark.com).

    Comment by zathrus — March 3, 2008 @ 8:24 pm

Yep media portrays each “side” as equally valid but opposite extreme ends of the spectrum.

And so when someone like Bjorn Lomborg “the sceptical environmentalist” comes along his ideas seems very reasonable (that is climate-change is real but we shoudnt worry because its not that bad and we cant do much about it anyway so lets just adapt and focus on more important things) because hes in the middle of the portrayed “extremes”.

But in reality neither Lomborg or the denialists are reasonable at all. Their facts and arguments are flat out wrong and not supported by science, which is what media should be focusing on. Not debates between clowns and professionals.

This can’t be the second coming of Jesus. Obama already has that covered.

Another brilliant observation, GG! Your McBush will be blinded by the light of Obama in November.

You know its a good thing you have anonymity and can change your handle easily. Means you won’t have to own up to all you have said when reality finally sets in.

  41. sectionop92 says:

Glenn needs to talk with his daughter on how to ignore science unless it’s funded through the neo-con government or church they believe in, if she’s going to be a teacher. Can’t be a teacher if you ask questions or draw conclusions based on facts that might not support what you believe in. Daddy Glenn will lock you in the box for that kind of thinking in the summer home in the Utah badlands, while seeking “moral clarity” with a girl with the initials D.P.

  42. Marie says:

Beck says the “press” won’t cover it, implying that Fox is not the press.
Wallace claims that if Obama won’t be interviewed on Fox –
“if he can’t face FOX, how can he face Ahmadinejad?” – also implying that Fox IS the enemy.

So their own words have betrayed them – they are not the “press” and they are the “enemy.”

  43. Xisithrus says:

Global cooling would be worse than global warming to crops and would result in even higher need for oil which would further raise oil prices.

  44. Sabyen91 says:

Xisithrus. I would like to see a study on that. I doubt that global cooling would be worse on crops than global warming.

  45. Bluestocking says:

Perhaps it’s a little arrogant of me to speak on behalf of Jesus of Nazareth…but at least to my way of thinking, Beck’s comment goes far beyond insulting (and not just to Jesus, but to Christians in general) almost to the point of being a desecration.

  46. sectionop92 says:

Beck thinks that voice inside his head needs to be spoken aloud each and every day. Much to the dismay of his nation, religion and just about anyone with practical, common and ethical stances…he makes Yosemite Sam look like a rank-and-file member of the Sierra Club.

Can’t wait until Glenn comes to San Diego and does his show from the border. Not only do we have pissed off Latinos, we also have quite the Arab and Muslim community which I hope will go down and show Glenn that we don’t want him here. Because it’s already hard enough to get across the border on a daily basis. We don’t need angry white guys congregating and then crossing the border to get some tail. It’s always the moralists that clog the Tijuana strip clubs and I think Glenn needs to get laid!

  47. Dirty Hippie says:

Your check is in the mail, Glenn. And they won’t publish those pictures of you with a bottle of Jack Daniel’s and a sheep.

  48. Keith says:

Heartland Institute’s major meeting is in NEW YORK CITY?! NYC is not part of our glorious Heartland. It’s on the coast! Bunch of elitists on the Upper East Side with white wine and Volvos!

What exactly is the Heartland Institute, anyway? I know Exxon is the largest funder of The Hoover Institute. I know Exxon has about $40 Billion per year in spending money.

  49. toasterhead says:

    Comment by Marie — March 3, 2008 @ 10:25 pm

I’d pick Ahmedinejad over O’Reilly any day. Somehow I don’t see Mahmoud abruptly ending peace talks by telling President Obama to shut up or having his producers cut President Obama’s microphone or calling him a Nazi.

Hospitality is very important in Persian culture. Fox culture not so much.

  50. MapleStreet says:

Anyone else old enough to remember when one of the Beatles remarked on the irony that more people had heard them than had heard Jesus (followed by massive record burnings, etc. Even though Lenon was philosophically oriented and remarking on the irony of it all).

Now Beck is comparing the No-Global Warming conference to Jesus. When do we get to start burning Beck and Faux News in effigy ?

  51. Dino says:
