Beck: ‘Is Obama the Antichrist?’

By Amanda Terkel on Mar 4th, 2008 at 9:31 pm

Beck: ‘Is Obama the Antichrist?’

Today on his CNN Headline News show, Glenn Beck asked Pastor John Hagee whether Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) is the embodiment of evil:

There are people — they say this about Bill Clinton — he might be the Antichrist. Odds that Barack Obama is the Antichrist?

Watch it:

In 2006, Beck also called Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) the anti-Christ, stating, “I think we may have found our Antichrist and our next president.”

As opposed to the grinning , braying , stupid jackass that has fouled the Oval Office and our reputation throughout the world , Glenn Speck(of shit) ?

Jesus friggin’ Christ ; what exactly is it that these morons actually see in Chimpy the Wonder Monkey that all others are insignificant at best , and make them laughably and hysterically view a moronic , colossal absolute FAILURE as the 2nd Coming ?

  9. Mr. Evil says:

These kooks amaze me! Just how many “anitchrists” are there. They keep looking for one everywhere. And have you ever noticed that it’s always a democrat or liberal. If there are “antichrists” they are all the total idiots that believe that an antichrist exists.

To Glenn Beck; if you need an antichrist so fu(king bad pick me. I’ll gladly be your anitchrist. I’d love to rain down upon you pestilence, famine, blight, hellfire and eternal damnation. You are a pathetic excuse of a human being. I guess you’ll have David Motari, the puppy killing marine, on your show soon to congratulate him on what a great man he is. You suck!

I challenge CNN to produce those e-mails and reveal their sources. (After all, when you write to them, you agree to allow your name and home town to be used.) Then I look at someone like Glenn Beck, and realised how far we’ve fallen.

    Comment by JaneaneTheAcerbicGoblin — March 4, 2008 @ 11:04 pm

I think Glenn Beck is just the end result of the fall of TV journalism in this country. Coincidentally, it also started with CNN.

They started the 24-hour news cycle, and soon realized that 24 hours is a lot of air time. Filling all that time with actual news is expensive and unprofitable, so they had to fill the air time with more and more fluff. “Newsworthy” soon began to mean “visual” rather than “important,” and objectivity soon began to mean “get the two loudest voices on either side of this issue and let them at it.”

And that’s where we are today. Network TV news has long outlasted its usefulness. Luckily, blogs, independent radio, and YouTube are picking up the slack a bit and actually help keep people informed with the stuff that’s unprofitable to Viacom, GE, and Time-Warner-AOL.

  60. Jane E. Schneider says:

Ah, toasterhead, my fellow Terry Pratchett fan. Only Pratchett could make the Apocalypse hysterically funny.

Closer to ‘on topic’: I can’t help feeling that someday those two (Beck and Hagee) are going to open their mouths and cockroaches are going to come spilling out.

Actually, what Headline News used to be is a far cry from what it is now. Some network executives looked at ten too many focus group suggestions and decided to cut the “News” from the network header and put all the emphasis on the “Headline” part. That whole bloc of Glenn Beck, Nancy Grace and Showbiz Tonight starts at 7 p.m. ET and goes until 3 a.m. So the network basically puts a third of a days worth of programming behind this utter crap. Then before that, the news anchors will interject opinion into stories that run in a display or start a confrontation with a guest that borders on the ridiculous. They don’t report the news, but they are satisfied with making it as they go. And that is a total lack of journalistic integrity.

Um, just so you all know, Beck wasn’t remotely serious in asking that question. Call him whatever you want, I’m all for verbally beating down those who I think deserve it, but the guy wasn’t even close to serious. He was actually making fun of the question itself.

Anyone who thinks he WAS actually serious needs to be publically flogged for being to amazingly stupid.

  103. HonestOpinion says:

First, what is wrong with all of you!? I’ve read through most of these 100+ comments and almost all of them agree with the HEADLINE – very few called attention to the fact that he is making fun of the people who really think that way. . .

Second, this site is called THINKprogress.org – have any of you stopped log enough to THINK for yourselves before hopping on the bandwagon? Just because you criticize others for being sheep, doesn’t mean you aren’t one on the other side of the fence. . .

Finally -Just a word of advice – when criticizing someone as “stupid” – it helps if you use correct grammar, spelling, or at least make an effort at clarity.

  104. you bloggin fools says:

They are more like lemmings….. Wake up people ! Glenn would not be on CNN if no one agreed with his views… or better yet how does a book make it to the best sellers list ?

  105. CodeZombie says:

To all the people who are up in arms about what Glenn said: did you actually watch the friggin’ video? Do you have a sense of humor? To recap the video for all the idiots who can’t be bothered to actually watch the video and just follow along with the rest of the lemmings: Glenn said that he gets e-mails from people who think that Obama is the anti-christ. He then asked in jest if the preacher thought that Obama was the anti-christ. But I guess conservatives aren’t allowed to have a sense of humor or to make jokes. Jeesh!

By the way, everyone knows Obama isn’t the anti-christ (665, 667 maybe). Now, as to Hillary…

Lighten up, people! You’ll give yourselves an ulcer!

  106. lnoonl says:

Most of the bloggers did not watch the video with Glenn Beck. Research before communicating; I would like to see the percentage of people who do this. I’m guessing less than 10%.

  107. Benge says:

What the?!?! did you guys even watch the Clip?! First of all the he didnt even say ‘Is Barak Obama the Antichrist’ he said (with an extremely sarcastic tone) “Odds that Barak Obama is the AntiChrist”

Beck isnt looking for an Antichrist people wise up.

  108. Benge says:

Reading these comments all i can think is

    you ‘progressives’ are freakin zombies!

do you people even know where progressives come from?!?!

WANNA KNOW WHATS COME OUT OF THE PROGRESSIVE PARTY?!

ill tell you FASCISM NAZI NATIONALISM SOCIALISTS REVOLUTIONS pretty much everything and anything Totalitarian. Seriously guys?

  109. blcartwright says:

Beck was frakking making fun of people who would call anyone the anti-Christ.

Paraphrase: “I’ve got lots of idiots writing me saying Obama’s the anti-Chrsit. Pastor, what do you think?” “No chance” “Whew, that almost had me worried there”

For those who didn’t actually watch the link, here is the complete, unedited transcription

[Beck] Let me ask you, I just get so much email on this, I think a lot of people do, and I’ve only got a couple of seconds

[Beck, in hysterical voice, gesturing with hands] They say “Glenn! you in the media! You’ve got to wake up! Barack Obama’s making people faint and cry and everything else and he’s drawing people in”

[Beck] There are people, and they said this about Bill Clinton, that actually believe, that he might be the anti-Christ. odds that Barack Obama is the anti-Christ?

    [Hagee, smiling] No chance

    [Beck, laughing] No chance!

[Hagee] He has a lot of charisma

    [Beck] Whew!

[Hagee] The media have a love affair with him right now, he is a very formidable political person

    [Beck] Pastor

[Hagee] But i believe the best leader for America in the future is John McCain

[Beck, laughing] Thank you very much Pastor, back in a second, that’s good news, at least were I stand

  110. mrtibbster7 says:

i JUST WANT TO SAY IT was a freaking joke because other poeple emailing him thought he was the anti christ and glenn was sarcastic about the whole thing people take things way to seriously and yes i am gonna say it liberals take things way to seriously

  111. J.R. Ash says:

Please, pleeeeeassssssse, do yourselves, and everyone else for that matter, a favor: before you fly off the deep-end on anything that is posted, be sure that it is acurate. I have read the transcript, and it is sooooo far from what it is being portrayed as. Ralph Waldo Emerson said it best: “The root and seed of democracy is the doctrine Judge for thyself…” Hmmm, that may sound like a strange doctrine, what with political polarization, self-righteousness and correctness (which sounds a whole lot like something from Orwell’s book 1984), but if you give it a try..you just might find that you can actually think outside any box. Hmmmmmmm, another strange concept, evidently.

  112. One says:

You were all asking where the trolls were to defend Beck, well, we’ve been here for a few days now and not a SINGLE post of a rebuttle to one of us trolls’ comments. I’m shocked. It’s like there’s a bunch of 14 year old posting on this site. I love it.

  113. NoObama says:

How hillary is losing to a guy that gets endorsements from the likes of The New Black Panther Party and ‘Ludacris’ is beyond me. This is pretty funny – http://nationalsquib.com/index.php/barack-obama-ludacris/

  114. outback says:

As I began reading these posts, I got to about 36 and had couldn’t take it anymore. Thank god there are some people who really saw it for what it was. It was a joke!! He is definitely making fun of those who ARE calling Obama the anichrist. Sheesh, if any of you actually WATCHED the video, and came to any other conclusion, (1) you need to have your ears checked, and (2) you take things WAY too seriously.

  115. samiller1980 says:

For those of you that jump all over Glenn Beck and his comments about obama being the anti-christ. It would serve you well to research all the facts before you are so quick to judge. You automatically take what the media says as truth, that is your first mistake, it rarely is. If you would have happened to actually watch the entire episode you would know that at the end Mr. Beck stated that media matters would probably jump all over him joking about obama being the anti-christ, distort the truth, it would be picked up by other liberal media centers, repeated as fact and that they would make him out to be a bigot. Sure enough exactly that happened, media matters only showed what they wanted people to see, Keith oberman then picked it up and did a bit on it, and it eventually made its way to the new york times. This happens constantly by the media. Do not trust what information you get from the media, be smart, think about it and research all the facts.

  116. t.allen says:

Interesting I came across this comment. I have discussed this topic within the past week with several groups all with different political and religious viewpoints both ultra liberal to conservative. There are prophecies and signs that seem to run parallel with this statement. This may not be so farfetched.

  117. Makabit says:

Don’t you hate when someone turns the table and uses your tactics to slam your candidates? How annoying is that?
Doesn’t it just make you want to spit your latte’ across the room, rip your Che t-shirts and stomp on your Mao posters?
    ahhhhhhh! waaaaaaaaa!

  118. MrSquirrel says:

He interviews this clown Hagee and asks a stupendously absurd question like that? We were supposed to be all scared about that kooky Rev. Wright, but Hagee is the authority you bring on your show to ask who might be the Anti-Christ??

  119. youaretheantichrist says:

Isn’t every current American President accused of being the Antichrist until they’re out of office? Wait a gosh darn second. I thought Bono was the Antichrist. He isn’t American OR President. I’m just confused now. Just plain confused.

  120. youaretheantichrist says:

    P.S.) W.W.J.B.T.

    (What Would JEFF Beck Think)

    hmmmmmm…….
