This is actually when he got that "maverick" label, because he was doing what he could to frustrate their agenda. But, whatever. If you lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas and if he thinks that wedging himself into Bush's pants will help him, he's mistaken. When you work for the White House and your non-American spouse knows more about your country than you do -- and worse still, when you're foolish enough to admit it <em>on the record</em> -- it doesn't make either you or your boss look very good, and that's an understatement.
